Being a glorified dating sim is a staple of big budget Western RPGs. It's not Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest allowing you to romance everyone, it's shit like The Witcher, Bioware and Bethesda games. I don't know why JRPGs have gotten that stigma from basically only Persona.
