I save just about every 5 minutes because I'm an autist, so reloading my saves is a faster way. Basically you're saying no, there's no accurate way to gauge which dialogue will progress the plot?

Not that I recall. I don't remember it happening that often though. I remember being annoyed it made me exhaust all the dialogue choices even dumb unimportant ones a lot more though.
