Damn, this just isn't fun at all. There's no sense of exploration. Why would I want to explore when there's nothing but mobs that can absolutely push my shit in still just roaming around? There's no exp or leveling from fighting anymore, so battle has almost no incentive other than a begger's amount of gold.
I'm just walking along in the emptiest part of fields I can find hoping to trip over a unique structure because almost nothing else is rewarding in anyway. If I do find something, it's only useful for the smallest bit of time until I run out of things in this zone to do and have to go to a new zone and lose almost all that progress. How the fuck you gonna take the shittiest part of minecraft and roguelites and put them together in a way nobody likes it?

I didn't have much in the way of nostalgia for the alpha either, just played it for a few dozen hours with my little brother because he found it fun back then. I’m kind of at a loss for what to do. I can’t grind weak mobs to level up anymore, villages sell stuff that’s barely better than the default gear, crafting takes ages and again isn’t much of an improvement and anywhere you’d expect to go to get gear like a dungeon kicks my ass due to being weak.
At this point I’m just wandering and collecting lore on a goblin kingdom without any real progress.
I found something called a “treasure spirit” but it doesn’t seem to do much.

Can anyone tell me what the point of this game is? You're better off running away from mobs instead of fighting them since they don't drop gear and the gold they drop is negligible for the time you spent fighting them, Progress is reset per zone, and your zone is random so you could get completely fucked just by spawning next to a bunch of high level dudes.

I'm having loads of fun. People just aren't finding the way to progress easily and are use to throwing themselves at mobs to get experience, but that's just not how it works anymore.

Once you get geared up and find some White level quests, then things pick up. Just kicked the fuck out of the Steel Empire attacking this Grove and got my crafting for green tier gear. Once I get that, I'll be doing all my green level quests. Now that I know how to use Cyclone to block more effectively, taking on even Blue mobs is easy, even Ogres, which I would never take on with a Warrior before.

I'll give it a go now that I understand the new gameplay mechanics. Less fighting, more running away and grabbing the magical mystical digeridoos

Which class? The biggest hurdle is figuring out how to fight effectively. Most of the stuff from Alpha really doesn't carry over to Beta. Like, I was use to face tanking as Warrior and letting my stunning do the work, but with the changes on how things attack, you can't really do that anymore. Kiting effectively is king.

If you have all slots filled, then you should be good to go on white quests. The real problem at the start is just low HP and all gear that I got raised that by 30, but that could just be a warrior thing. Went from 205 HP to almost 400. Don't forget to also drink potions, get some power and toughness and that makes up a lot. I wish I could find some Ginseng for more HP though.

Oh lord slay me. Cube World is a disaster. Wollay just undid this game. There's no leveling or skill system anymore, progression is tied to finding artifacts in the world, and because of this combat has effectively become a painful slog. Gear you find is tied to the zone you're in and if you leave it, it gets nerfed to hell to try and enforce some sort of nonsensical gameplay loop.

I don't even mind this. Leveling up was just stat increases anyway, with absolutely no choice. There weren't even skill trees. You just unlocked more skills as you went along which made combat at low levels monotonous. Gear based progression is good in my book. Fuck resetting it all when you change zones though.

I immediately thought of this back in January when Wollay Suddenly updated his twitter after 2 years of absence. It was a real coincidence considering it was like a month after Hytale's trailer release.

I wouldn't even call it hype. The alpha's fundamental gameplay was enjoyable. The loop of grinding/levelling was basic RPG stuff but mindless fun. It was just barebones as fuck in terms of stuff to do. People expected wollay to build on what he had and just flesh out skill trees/rpg mechanics while adding more content.

Instead he just totally gutted what people actually liked about the game in favour of... this. I'm not even sure what it's meant to be now. Like a super scuffed version of Breath of the Wild or something. And it'd be one thing if he had a new direction he wanted the game to go in and went all in on that, but the reality is I'm left wondering what he did in the past six years. I understand he had some "personal issues" or whatever and hasn't literally been working on the game for six years, but this feels like, what, six months work tops? And most of those were spent stripping out the old stuff rather than adding new content.

I really hope Hytale is better, but I'm not holding my breath.

I got a quest to go to a forest where it was NPCs fighting NPCs as well, and my performance tanked super hard. It was completely unplayable. I was getting 1 or 2 fps fighting these golem dudes and some necromancers and i have a pretty beefy computer.

Pretty much all I've been doing is looking for NPCs to lead mobs to. The two towns I've found were petrified by a witch (that has 3.2k HP and I can't even hit) and possessed by demons.

the problem with that is that the entire fucking map is visible from the start, so you can already see all the dungeons and towns

Do towns spawn campfires? Or do I have to travel around to find one? I walked around a town and can't find a way to cook some food.

I don't experience the same sentiment, honestly. There are a lot of people who would like an X2 for the switch, or a port. It's not a perfect game but general consensus seems to be it's a solid xeno game.

I personally don't care about the mini games, but their server was really popular, so there are defenitely a tone of people into it. I think they're trying to show the sandbox aspect of the game with all that stuff, the game having its own moding tool and everything. That part actually sounds fun.

So according to some dude on a thread you CAN use gear in different zones but you need to find gear that lets you do this, seems part of progression is finding gears that are useable in more zones.
Seems woally wanted to remove typical leveling from mob grinds and wants the progression to come from gear and exploration.
You also level up by finding an artifact in a zone not buy grinding shit.
