Steam is pretty harmless as far as these things go, their DRM is totally trivial to bypass if devs even choose to use it, if you try to open a pirated game with the DRM intact it just opens the store page, you can do whatever the hell you want with your account, they don't care, and they don't even care if you use stuff like CreamAPI, the list goes on and on. I have to think if any other company got their market share things would be a hell of a lot worse.

I mean it's relatively true. Source is still mostly licensed like how most engines were licensed back in the day while Epic has Unreal ready to be unpacked and used. I won't doubt that Source is a dying engine (And Valve doesn't use Source 2 for anything), but the way you go about obtaining the engines is different from an indie to a AAA level. Besides that, like comparisons to any engine, they do certain things differently (For example, Titanfall 2 shows me that Source has the better physics when it comes to raw movement while Unreal has all the visual shit going for it).
This talk of Unreal reminds me how much I fucking hate epic for abandoning Unreal Tournament 4.
