All I wanted in the remake was a cheap fanservice alternate ending, maybe the one for a deathless run, to have Link wake up clutching Marin's hair flower or necklace or something. Then we follow the seagull in the sky to a distant shore where Marin is waving at you.

It's a case of "you had to be there". Sure, when you compare it to gaming today, sure then LA comes across as outdated & underwhelming. But that's because today's games expanded on LA's foundations. Back then, LA has a huge step up from LoZ1 through LTTP in storytelling & Marin not being another damsel in distress that you only ever see after beating the last boss was groundbreaking.
Plus, kid me spent MONTHS, if not a whole year on that 1st playtrhough. As I search every inch of the island that I could in my quest to figure out what to do next, I came back to certain spots over & over again. That included coming back to Marin time & time again just in case she ever had anything new to say & even if she didn't, all of those meetings got ingrained into my childhood memories.

No, there was a scene in DX that triggered if you went to the rooster statue during the date with Marin. The photo mouse shows up and tells Link and Marin to get close for a picture, they do but Tarin photobombs the picture at the last moment by getting between them. They both look annoyed.

Why has no Zelda game managed to be sadder or more impactful than this one? I mean, even botw's revelation that all of Link's friends and family are dead don't hit as hard as Awakening does.
