It's not like the current owners of the franchise understand or care about what the fans want either. At least he loved what he did.

He's worse. George Lucas's biggest crime was that he was terrified of being a Hollywood stooge and losing control of his films, but it's ultimately society itself that propelled Star Wars into a merchandise-driven franchise where people sperg out over continuity and shit like that. His resistance to bending over for fans and big wigs made him an easy target for people to call looney when all he did was make his movies the way he wanted. Kojima is a pseudo-intellectual hack who thinks he's making high art and doesn't even understand the point of his own creation, leading him to make assinine statements like Solid Snake isn't a real human and doesn't have real emotions.
