there's a reason for the pixel graphics and pixel size. each pixels is it's own material with its own properties. like voxels, though i think voxels have to be 3d definitionally or something

If you read some of the stuff the devs have said it was clearly in a tech demo stage like 4 years ago before they got the mechanics and concepts to a place they liked. It's been in development for like 6 years, and they have barely showed any of the actual content besides the first 3 levels.
