Here's my last game. Notice it's a Field Battle, not a Fort or Castle battle. You basically need to start abusing things like remove their moves(Kenshin, Uruza), doing % damage to all troops(Natori, Seigan), or the Tactician moves that directly move the goal bar.

Her attack has a chance for instant kill on top of the usual musket damage.
Plus there is an item that halves an unit's current troop count, but gives it another action.

I like them but they're severely limited by literally being paper to any attacks. The only good Musket unit is Yuzuhara Yuzumi because she's basically an attack + Assassination in one, but you need to add extra moves to her and always deploy with a good Foot Soldier/Ashigaru next to her.

Do it faster, if you don't rescue her within something like four turns she dies.

An important thing to mention is that the more troops a unit have, the less effective their stats become.
So a 9999 unit crashing on your 1000 one may be far less fatal than you'd think.
Item modifiers and good stats matter as well.
Finally, troop sizes of the enemy scale depending on your average troop size (except ashigaru IIRC). Keeping your units relatively low will stop the inflation somewhat. All these details help to survive on top of standard cheese tactics

Yeah they really nailed a lot of the structures of events, then you get the opposite end with something like daibanchou which they put a majority of their events into arbitrary start of turn events that quickly pile up and can cause a good deal of frustration when trying to character clear as a majority are based on start of turn events with anywhere from moderate to extremely low priority

It's a parody of Nobunaga's Ambition, but those are more like spreadsheet simulators as far as I know. And the scripted events are what really brings life to the game, hence why national mode feels so lackluster.

The recover injury ones can be worth it on NG+ because you can start with textbooks.

Nah, not really. It's two sat bonuses, four stat books, and one relationship bonus for a guy that has a very useful but limited application. His int and speed are still gonna be dogshit without even more work, so without at least Neo Ally Guard he's not going to work well as a frontline defender. And if an enemy doesn't actually take counterattack damage he's just a big invincible wall.

But you can get him early as hell, he costs the minimum amount a unit can cost, and a lot of the early guys are heavy on ashigaru/samurai/monks so he can definitely still get some shit done. Plus, again, Takeda. Any generic bird unit deciding to hit him usually gets fucking destroyed.

Sengoku Rance is a good starting point. If you do not mind extremely old games you can also play Kichikuou Rance which serves as an alternative conclusion to the series but features more or less the same events, characters and locations as the games that came after it

Kenshin > Isoruko > KTM > FFA > Ran

Ran is the quickest and easiest if going for points

VI is a better starting point than SR but it's grindy and most people enjoy the gameplay aspects less than SR
Most games in this series do not play like one another

if you don't have mercy attack, your chance will be a lot higher if you only kill 2 units, since by default you can only capture/kill 2 commanders per battle. if you do get to use mercy attack on her it doesn't matter though.

there's a dungeon in the smaller ex-takeda province that gives you +15 satisfaction if you do it while you have sill, the single greatest sat boost in the game IIRC.

Focus on dungeoneering. If you have Natori, Fuuka and good commanders, make a push for Orochi, for me, it was easier the first time.

It's a really great game. While I understand what you mean by the menu problems, if you like Rance, you'll like that game.

I'd argue that Daibanchou is harder without a guide. Maybe it doesn't punch you in the dick without a warning that often, but character events in that game are insanely complex at times.

There's a guide on the wiki that teaches how to get the third action fan in the first game with just 14 turns. It's quite tight because the guide involves doing things like "make sure you get +affection items on this fight" and "capture an X type generic commander" but it's perfectly doable if you stretch it to turn 16 or so.

hardest part is balancing all the start of turn events, ontop of progressing and dealing with trust score/money phase, specially low priority start of turn events like vampire hunter girls clear star with daigo and the cave
