It's an intended sabotage by EA. A few shareholders bitched at them and said "we see a potential market for single player star wars games", EA said "sure, we'll make one, just keep investing". They then spend the absolute minimal amount to develop the game and then don't advertise it at all so that it fails and they can tell the shareholders: "see, we need to focus more on multiplayer games as a service with microtransactions."

More like they ripped the udders off trying to milk too quickly and the cow died. Star Wars should have been twenty years of easy billions, and instead they blew it all on two high-performing films, one disappointment, one outright flop and a total failure on toys and merchandise - the one place Star Wars is supposed to reign above all other franchises.

I actually have always thought the new trilogy should have been about ahsoka's secret and orphaned daughter if they really cared about having a female lead. I've been a bit of a starwarsfag since i was a kid, so I can think of like 10 really strong plotlines that would tie all the trilogies together.
Not to mention having an alien girl protagonist might be a bit more progressive and overall relatable than just casting white, black, asian or whatever.
One of the problems with the new movies is that there is not really an important relatable hero for the actual target audience of star wars, young boys, so they should have doubled down on what they were going for.
Hell the girl they cast for rey could have still played the role if they just dressed her up and used some animation.

I think that Kennedy was confident that their traditional fan base of white men were a safe bet, so they tried to expand their market to women and brown people, who have traditionally never given a shit about Star Wars. The thing is, they made that classic mistake of thinking that the way to elevate one group is by pushing the other one down, and the fans weren’t having it. Then, they made the second mistake of thinking they were too big to fail, and essentially told their original fan base to go fuck themselves in favor of “the new model”, but all they succeeded in doing was scaring off the original fans, while their intended new audience was always going to be indifferent at best. The end result: nobody cares anymore.

This idea that George was an unquestioned head honcho during the OT is completely bogus, and in the prequels he was indecisive and wishy washy and changed his mind all the time. Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith started filming without finished scripts and the latter underwent substantial reshoots during post production.

the KOTOR comics, the Darth Bane novels, and Knight Errant were all pretty great

and the Golden Age of the Sith/Exar Kun comics were cool just for how balls-to-the-wall they were

The prequels even as they were coming out and being trash were inspiring EU content that did great things for the setting as a whole and kept the franchise thriving. Star Wars vidya was better under the prequels than at any other time in its history. Disney has brought no such supplementary content to the table. The Darth Vader comic book is ok, and a few tabletop RPGs are good, but guess what? Those avoid the sequel time period like the plague, they're all about the prequels and the OT.

There's select moments that are wonderful, and the awkward tension between Luke and Anakin is great, and the idea of the movie being a short adventure starring Luke followed by a longer story where he's less involved is strong, but the actual plot and execution is generally awful. Luke standing in place for half the movie while Sheev's going "DO IT FAGGOT" is the worst.
