Having just finished GTA V for the first time recently, I'm gonna go ahead and jump in with my take:

I think the "problem" with GTA V is that nobody is a perfect voice of reason. Everyone's an asshole sometimes, and everyone says valid things sometimes, and the two aren't necessarily related. In other words, there's no way to conclusively sum up the positives and negatives about any one character and come to a definitive conclusion. They're not coherent, self-consistent personalities; one moment someone might be a psychotic, despicable cunt, and the next they're giving solid advice or moral assessment, and there's no underlying backstory or motivation to reconcile the two.

Naturally this is a complete disaster from a traditional narrative standpoint -- people go into stories expecting coherent arcs and characters to root for(or against). However, I'd argue it's more successful(still very flawed, mind you, but not a complete trainwreck at least) as a representation of reality. In real life, people are almost never self-consistent and contradict themselves constantly, often for no particular reason. And before someone says I'm just using flowery language to excuse "bad writing," recall how many times in the story a character will do something and then IMMEDIATELY contradict themselves, in the same scene. It happens too often and too obviously to be unintentional.

I think a more constructive way of looking at GTA V is associating it with the modern media trend of attempting to portray reality more accurately, as opposed to a romanticized/idealistic fantasy. I'm not saying you have to support the game or that trend, just that if you want to talk about it you have to go into the discussion with that in mind.

Probably the weirdest thing about my family is that to the best of my knowledge, my parents just...don't have sex. At all. Growing up they slept in completely different bedrooms across the house from each other, never once went on any kind of "date night" or otherwise would've had any obvious opportunities to hook up. Applied at the local hospital 2 or 3 times, after the third time they actually invited me to talk to them and I was able to convince them to give me a chance. Same here, my dad earns around $2500-$3000 a month which might seem low acording to US standards, but we actually live REALLY good in here.
Good thing here is that the basic necessities are cheap as fuck (i'm talking like $325 a month to cover everything) and with the leftover money, you can spend it however you want. Also most things have fixed prices to be more competitive in the market (like Steam games where they sometimes cost $35 instead of $60, or luxury clothing where a genuine good quality leather jacket costs $250 whereas in most countries they might cost over $500)

I have a similar situation with houses and my dad COULD get me a decent job if I studied law, but I'm still having to figure a lot of stuff out for myself. It's still a lot better than what some of the people in this thread go through and I'm thankful for that.
