Yes, I'm kind of borderline obsessed. I went with 1 game per series (VTMB and VTMR are not the same series, just the same license) or else it would have been mostly Castlevania and Half-Life.
BTW, incase anyone gives a shit (which they don't) here's my actual top 9 without the "1 game per series" rule.
Castlevania
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
Super Castlevania IV
Dracula X: Rondo of Blood
Castlevania Chronicles
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Half-Life
Half-Life 2
Vampire Night
2/2 Vampire Savior and Castlevania.
2/2 Vsav and VTMB
3/3 VJ, platinum and P4

Metroid Prime is a western game.
>What about vampires appeals to you so much?
It's kind of a combination of everything. 1) My taste are kind of genre-centric (mainly WRPGs, FPSes, side-scrollers, fighting games, light gun games, and pinball) and vampire games coincidentally happen to have some amazing games in those genres. When you add "[genre I like] + VAMPIRES" I am almost always interested. But the game has to be legit really good. I didn't include, say... Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession, because it's kind of mediocre. Or Castlevania II -- my favorite childhood game -- because looking back it's the weakest of the classic era Castlevanias and I'm not the kind of person to be blinded by nostalgia. The only one of those games where you really need to be into the content is Nosferatu: Wrath of Malachi, which not coincidentally is also my least favorite on the list (if it had better gameplay I'd rank it MUCH higher, because I am absolutely in love with the whole atmosphere and style of it). 2) I like DARK shit, both in video games and other mediums. This is not at all limited to any one specific theme and includes everything from monsters to, in particular, the occult. Some of my other favorite games are Demon's Crest, Bloodborne, Blood, Resident Evil 4, and Mortal Kombat 9 & X (yes, I play other non-dark stuff, but that's irrelevant to the point). 3) Much of this developed in my early childhood. I grew up watching horror films ranging from Army of Darkness and Phantasm to the old Universal Studios monster movies, the latter of which I had a particular fascination with. 4) Add all the shit above together -- Universal Studios monsters + occult themes + dark horror + video games -- and the one place where it all intersects the most is vampire media. And in particular the video game series Castlevania, which my dad introduced me to in elementary school, and which instantly became and has continued to be my favorite series BY FAR ever since.

its by nintendo though and they oversaw its development. do you credit slaves for creating the architecture of the buildings they built?
it's alright
It's by Retro.
>do you credit slaves for creating the architecture of the buildings they built?
False equivalency.
i have the move and never knew about re5 being compatible with it thats awesome!
Out of those I've only played DUSK but it's a damn good game
My favorite way to play it, I love pointer controls in shooting games too. It has to be the Gold version though.
Play Quake.
Not exactly my top 9, just 9 games I consider GOAT in no particular order. I also restricted it to one per series.
im going to replay all the resident evils so this will make 5 fun with move
I've played that so many times. That, Chronicles, and 3 are my top 3 favorite games of all time. Ultimately I went with 3 because of the multiple characters, since I was limiting it to 1 per series.

2/3 LOVED Deus Ex and STALKER. I've never WANTED to like a game more than Earthbound, but I just couldn't get into it.
7/9 Not sure if this is a troll list or not, but your last 2 are pretty alright.
4/8 +Deus Ex +Planescape +Morrowind +Skyrim -RE -RDR2 -Halo -Silent Hill 2 (I wanted to like the Silent Hill games, because the original did horror elements better than almost any other game, but the sequels did nothing for me.)
Gungrave has 2 games, a shitty VR entry that should be avoided at all costs, and an upcoming game from the same studio for PS4. The first game is just about the perfect length imo and the presentation for the cutscenes is stellar. The sequel adds a lot of padding, the presentation isn't quite as strong either. I'd rather replay the first when it comes down to it.
Taboo is a tarot reading fortune teller. It's more of a spiritual thing on what you can personally read into. Im not good at framing it for a newcomer.
Since I see you like vampire games, you play the Bloodrayne games? Particularly Betrayal. I was fighting with myself to put this in Lumines' spot, love this game though. If you like your 2D classicvanias then this should be right up your alley. One of my favorite mechanics in this game is when you bite someone, you can turn them into a living bomb, kick them into a crown and chain explode everyone on screen.
I like them all. I used the first to represent the series as a whole.
5/6 +Mario World +STALKER +Smash +DKC +Zelda (somewhat) -Paper Mario
Game is way too obscure. Only light gun shooters that MIGHT have had better core gameplay mechanics are The House of the Dead 1&2 and Time Crisis 2&3 and arguably Virtua Cop 2.
Not that guy, but 1 was better. Better characters, but animal buddies, better set pieces.
4/7 +RE4 +Smash +Tetris +Bayonetta -both Zeldas -SotC

0/0, I appreciate the admiration for the Gothic aesthetic, though.
1/1, Super Castlevania 4 is great. Need to play the rest of the series.
4/4, for Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, and Fire Emblem. DS and 3DS were great systems. 1/1, Ghost Trick is freaking great. I plan to eventually play most of the games here.
5/6, + for Metroid, Super Star, DK, Galaxy, and Brawl, - for TF2. Only got into TF2 later, so it might be that talking, but I never really liked it. I think I played Sonic Rush, but it's so fuzzy a memory I can't pull an opinion out on it.
5/6, + for DK, Galaxy, Portal, nuDoom, and BOTW, - for CK2. Just could never get into it like I did with EU and HOI.
0/0, I think. Not looking over that again.
0/1, couldn't get into Xenoblade, Umeniko and Deadly Premonition are on my to play list, though.
0/1, gonna play top row someday though.
2/2 for Ghosts and Goblins and Brain training. Really good tastes, though, especially with the NES tarot reading game. Got an appreciation for aesthetics, I guess.
0/0, was gonna play Neo Turf Masters but I guess I just forgot about it.
0/0, quite a few games on my backlog, though.
3/3 for Metroid, HM, and Galaxy. I played WW, but I couldn't really form an opinion on it. Need to revisit it.
1/1 for BOTW, gotta play TWEWY eventually.
Try the other Treasure games if you haven't. 2/3 for Civ and EDF, couldn't get into Lisa. Hotel Dusk is another one in the backlog.
1/2, AoE2 is good, Skyrim not so much.
2/2 for Mario and Zelda.
3/3 for Starfox, Pokemon, and FE.
2/2 for Inside Story and C4. Gotta play Goemon, heard a lot of good things.
0/-1, Borderlands is just not fun even though I haven't played 3.
>you play the Bloodrayne games?
1 and 2. Which were mediocre and somewhat fun, respectively. I think I mentally blocked out Betrayal the moment I saw the art style, plus my lukewarm reaction to the others certainly didn't have me anticipating a sequel to begin with. You say the gameplay is up to snuff though?
Continuing ratings because character limit.
4/5, Deus Ex, Earhbound, HM, and Medieval 2 are great. Never could get into CK2.
0/0, not sure if you're a troll.
1/2, +DeusEx, -Skyrim.
4/4 for Smash, Mario, Danganropa, and DK. Planning to play LTTP in the next couple of months.
4/5, + OOt, MM, Tetris, and Smash, never could get into SOTC. Not my cup of tea, I guess.
5/5, + for BOTW, Luigi's Mansion, Smash, Animal Crossing, and Pikmin. I'm saving playing No More Heroes for a special occasion, it'll be interesting since I started with Suda's earlier stuff first.
1/1 for Sapphire, why the MM remake instead of the original?
1/2 +Mario -Earthbound (I've meant to try Killer 7 for years and just never got around to it. That's on Gamecube, right?)
1/4 +Mega Man -Mass Effect -Halo -Zelda
I was just using the art for it because I couldn't find a good picture of the n64 box at the time.
Don't like Mass Effect, ODST, or Zelda?
Yeah, Killer 7 is on Gamecube and there was a release on Steam last year, too. Great game, heavily recommend it, and if you like the style try out Suda's other games (No More Heroes, The Silver Case, Flower, Sun, and Rain, etc.).
>Just could never get into it like I did with EU and HOI
did you like Vicky 2?
I normally only even recommend Betrayal, for you I just asked because vamps in general. It's an actual fun video game though yeah. Get ranks at the end of each mission too.
What should I try to appreciate in a game like Killer 7 to get into it? I tried to play it, really like the aesthetics and kind of liked the whole concept, but I can find my way through the game and the gameplay ends up being kinda confusing and repetitive. Any tips to play early Suda games? I'm kinda playing The Silver case too, but I only played like half an hour of it.
Its kinda weird to me because I really like NMH, but never played his earlier stuff. Now that I am trying, I really like because it kinda goes deeper into his own Suda51 thing while still being kinda recognizable from some NMH characteristics. Anyway, I guess you will like it. Also, don't skip Travis Strikes Again.
Can't stand Mass Effect. Majora's Mask isn't BAD, but I didn't really enjoy it either. Zelda games are hit or miss for me. There's some really amazing ones and some kinda meh ones.
I'll give it a look.
I just googled it and it's on GOG, so I'll probably check it out.

>jade empire
What was so bad about it?
For Killer 7, I suggest to continue trooping through it. The gameplay gets good, and it all just clicks after a bit. Repetition is something pretty common in early Suda, so don't be afraid of it. For The Silver Case, just take it one chapter at a time. It starts off slow, but when things get going, it's some of the best gaming ever.
Yeah, TSA was freaking great. The parallels between it and Suda's own experience and all of the passion it it was just insane.
I played it for like an hour, never returned to it.
bioware games are shitty enough when they actually have their act together, and jade empire is one of their worse ones
>I LOVE tag fighters but I never had the drive to get BBTag even though it has my mains from BB/P4A/UNIST in it.
If you can't decide, I'd wait for a sale. While all the characters are simplified, it doesn't sacrifice depth, as there's still plenty of mechanics to keep things fresh. There's 44 characters to pick from now, with 9 more coming in November with the 2.0 patch.

Do you think it is too bad to continue trooping through Killer 7 with a walkthrough until I feel like playing it naturally? Killer 7 isn't much about the gameplay, right? You convinced me to give The Silver Case a real shot. Also, I kinda wish I had played TSC before Travis Strikes Again (I bought TSC after going after some more info about Kamui after finishing NHMTSB)
>Was it on purpose?
I stuck to 1 game per series. Otherwise it'd have been basically just Castlevania and Half-Life lol. I explained elsewhere in the thread that I have a lifelong fascination/obsession with monsters and dark horror and a lot of the games that I like have vampires in them. 6 of those 9 are on there because "vampire shit", Vampire Savior is on there because "monsters lol", and Bloodlust 2: Nemesis is on there because that's what I'm currently playing. If I remake it in the future it'll probably be slightly different, but any "favorite games" list I make will always lean heavily toward very specific themes and genres because that's just the kind of stuff that I like.
Well, if you're really stuck I guess you could use a walk through. The gameplay will click with you when you learn more about the logic behind the puzzles, though.
Also, play through The Silver Case, Flower, Sun, and Rain and The 25th Ward before NMH3 releases. I can almost guarantee some of the plot threads from those games will be resolved in NMH3, and it would suck to miss out on that.
>Demon's Souls over Dark Souls or Bloodborne
>Fallout 1 over 2
>Thief: Gold over The Metal Age
>System Shock 1 over 2
>Myst over Riven
>Total Annihilation over Supreme Commander
>Caesar III over Rise of the Middle Kingdom
I'm planning on it. I kinda don't know if I'm playing TSC or The 25th Ward... Right now I'm looking into a murder in a weird condominium complex thing. It is TSC, right? I downloaded both games in one pack or something, but I don't remember choosing which one to play.
This is an interesting list. I've only played like a couple of them, but I'll certainly look into the rest.
Why wouldn't you put a VN in your 3x3? That is the real question.
Demon’s is the best in the series
I think you might be playing The 25th Ward. Did the game start with you going through a forest and doing some cryptography puzzles? If not, then switch games.
Don't mind the first segment of TSC, by the way. It ties back into the untranslated Moonlight and Twilight Syndrome games, so they're kinda boring unless you know what happened in those games, which you can't if you don't know moon. Like I said, starts off slow, gets really good at the end.
Not a single person would think Dark/blood is as good as Demons, that has had sex and has half a brain.
>Demon's Souls over Dark Souls or Bloodborne
DaS was a downgrade to DeS in every way. The movement is worse, the genuine item variety is worse, the level design is worse, the weapon movesets are worse... Sorry you are a faggot redditor. Not going to bother addressing the rest because I suspect you are a retard incapable of discussion. Have a nice day.
VNs technically do not meet the definition of game. They have no conflict or quantifiable outcome, and even if they did the gameplay simply isn't there in any serious capacity. Just read a book, dude.
I hope your subtractions are games you haven't played otherwise you'd probably have the worst taste I have ever seen in one of these threads
you niggas need to play SSX3
rented it at blockbuster, shit normie game
What's SSX3?
DaS was an upgrade in every way.
>you'd probably have the worst taste I have ever seen in one of these threads
How so?
SSX 3 is a snowboard racing game developed by EA Canada and published under the EA Sports BIG brand. The game was initially released on October 20, 2003 for the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. It was later ported to the Game Boy Advance by Visual Impact on November 11, 2003 and to the Gizmondo by Exient Entertainment on August 31, 2005 as a launch title. It is the third installment in the SSX series.
these threads are so gay i cant believe i almost took the time to make one of these retarded attention whore images. noone cares what games you like
anyway i like all 3 of the first mgs games more or less equally. deus ex one of course, resident evil remake and the remake of 2 was really good. twisted metal black, ninja gaiden 2004, splinter cell chaos theory, battlefield 2 in its heyday
shit taste desu
only the best snowboarding game ever made, top notch gameplay, awesome tracks and a godlike OST
it starts with the investigation right away. I guess its the wrong game lol
And so should I play Moonlight and TS before The 25th Ward? And these come before or after The Silver Case? Or doesn't it matter?
>disliking castlevania, viewtiful joe, tenchu, hitman, fallout, metroid, silent hill, ace combat, stalker, dark souls, most zeldas
>but likes mgs, deadly premonition, batman, spiderman, touhou, bloodborne, specifically only wind waker
>has red dead 2, wticher 3 and borderlands on it
stinks of a really tasteless form of contrarianism with no consistency in likes or dislikes, either that person is baiting, lying about the games he has played or is just tasteless
2/2 Dark Souls and Skyrim
0/3 Portal and Zelda and Silent Hill (I like the Wipeout series, but I never played that one.)
2/4 +MAHVEL +Metal Slug -W101 -Shovel Knight
2/3 +Bloodborne +FFT -TLOU
3/3 Kirby, Bloodlines, and Witcher (BOTW is great. I don't know if you'll like it, but I thought it was the best game of 2017.)
2/4 +Pathologic +Bloodlines -MGS -Lisa (Zeno Clash looks fascinating. How easy is that to get running on a modern PC?)
4/8 +Kirby +DKC +Smash +Castlevania -Yoshi -Mario -Mother -MGS
>-W101
The absolute worst taste I've ever seen.
List one way.
>t-the bosses are harder!
There is not a single difficult boss in the entire series. At least DeS had some interesting unique bosses.
>o-open world!
Ruined the enemy placement and level design because level designers had to take into account for the fact that the player might be going through a level backwards
>g-grass is bad!
Not nearly as cheesey as humanity heals in DaS and it did not force you to run through large swathes of a level like its a gauntlet where you'd probably just be better off skipping stuff on first playthrough instead of risking taking damage.
>m-magic is OP
Is it? In exchange for an easier playthrough, assuming you could even have the knowledge that its OP when you first play, (which you couldn't unless you follow a guide like a zoomer faggot) you have to suffer through a slower, boring run and get dabbed on by PvPers.
Face it, DaS is not as good as DeS.
kill yourself
Not him but platinum is a garbage developer.
Zeno Clash should be able to run on a modern pc.
Scope, sense of adventure, art direction, soundtrack, level design, DLC, healing system, optional content.
>shit taste desu
you're literally a gay. you eat ass.
Well, the timeline is like this:
Twilight/Moonlight Syndrome
The Silver Case
Flower, Sun, and Rain
The 25th Ward
The first two games are untranslated, so unless you know jap you can't play them. They contribute the least to the story out of all of them, too, so you'll be fine. If they ever get translated and you've enjoyed the three actually translated games, though, they would be worth checking out. Play The Silver Case first, then FSR, then 25th Ward. That's what most agree upon is the best order, and is probably the best unless you really like being confused. If you do, play FSR, then The Silver Case, then 25th Ward.
I just explained why the scope and level design were objectively bad, as well as the healing system.
>DLC is a positive
Oh its retarded.
Yea Forums always reveals itself as a normalfag board with normalfag tastes in these threads
>objectively
you know you don't have good taste just because your favorites are obscure weebshit RPGs from the 80s in japan, right?
but user, several of these games are in the chart i posted. please keep in mind that liking the saturn does not make you a special snowflake and only a normalfag would exclusively enjoy console games.
Being retarded isn't an argument.
>Platinum is a garbage develope-
>478991893
thanks for the patience dude.
Console games are the best games, that's a fact. Arcade tied for second, and PC below board games.
It's alright, man. Hope you like 'em.
6/6 Half Life, VtMR, VtMB, Vampire Savior, Nosferatu:twom
Nice to see another fellow vampire chad.
>Console games are the best games
They are the best games for normalfags. Everything complex or niche is on PC. If vidya is a hobby to you, there is simply no other choice than PC. Most console vidya 'hobbyists' just collect old merch and cartridges, and play the same garbage over and over.
Name one good game that isn't available on PC. Please keep in mind that I am an idort and will call you out on your bullshit, so real answers please.
I'm the very last quote you made and I love the FUCK out of SSX3 and the series in general (at least through On Tour; I never got the reboot and Blur sucked cock). Witness my 5x5 that includes it.
Are you that guy who compared DMC to Tony Hawk & SSX in that one thread a week or two ago?
>Name one good game that isn't available on PC.
What do I win?
>Are you that guy who compared DMC to Tony Hawk & SSX
nope, that wasnt me
>They are the best games for normalfags
On the contrary, you don't see Twinkle Star Sprites competitions on ESPN. DOTA2? PC is the normalfag platform. From the sims, to facebook, to counter-strike. You can try to deny it all you want, but there's a reason why it gets only the worst games.
>What do I win?
A second chance
4/4 top row and center
Nah, DeS is still the best From game.
3/5 +Castlevania +Metal Slug +God Hand -W101 -Shovel Knight
What do I win?
>On the contrary, you don't see Twinkle Star Sprites competitions on ESPN
Twinkle Star Sprites is on PC, retard.
also nice list
I hope to see the puyo puyo user in this thread again.
2/2 +MGR +TF2

1/1 +Dustforce
1/1 +RE4
2/2 +RE2 +REmake
1/1 +Axelay
1/1 +GTASA
1/1 +MS3
I want to give Deadly Premonition a try. Is the PC version decent? I heard the 360 version is the way to go.
Oh and I should probably add its the definitive version of the game because it has online play.
Yes, you can google. What's your point? It's still not a PC game, it's an arcade game and a console game.
Online play defeats the point of the game, you should get off that steam store page you silly normalfag.
>It's still not a PC game
The best version is on PC, though.
>Online play defeats the point of the game
lol
No, that's the Saturn version, the PC one is inferior.
I'd seriously recommend Veil of Darkness. I think that might be one of the most underrated games ever. You'll have to pirate it and run it in DOSBox though because there's no way to buy it and no source port or compatibility patches that I'm aware of. It's basically an graphical adventure game that feels like an RPG. Most sites list it as an RPG, but it doesn't really have any RPG mechanics whatsoever. Much more focus on inventory and puzzles, ala graphical adventure games, but with an isometric layout and old school DOS RPG style controls and graphics. The hedge maze section SUCKS, but otherwise I can't really complain about much.
How the actual fuck does one play Dodonpachi in year √(2019)^2?
That's right.
Trying really hard to justify paying $200 for a physical copy, huh? Sorry bud, your wrong. No only can I play the native pc version and find lots of people to play with, I can also play the saturn version on my PC.
Nope, never even bought the game. You can play an inferior DC port, and poorly emulate a Saturn, but you can never play the best version as intended.
>lots of people to play with,
good luck with that p2p connection with all 4 of those japanese players. Here's what you'll do- you'll stick to CSGO and DOTA2 like the little steam slave you are.
I occasionally play this game now. I dropped the game right after getting my 2-ALL.
>Nope, never even bought the game.
>the saturn version is best!
hmmm
It sounds like a game I would be able to enjoy so thanks for recommending it to me user, I'll check it out sometime hopefully. I don't know if you've ever played the terminal reality horror games (Nocturne, Bloodrayne and Bloodrayne 2) but it seems like you would probably enjoy them, just be aware that the first mission / tutorial in Bloodrayne might put you off, but as soon as you get to Argentina though things get enjoyable then.
Are PC gamers all this retarded? No wonder I left the platform when I grew up.
>poorly emulate a Saturn
he doesn't know about mednafen
>you can never play the best version as intended
he doesn't know about MAME
he's not a full IDORT
>he doesn't know about mednafen
>mednafen for saturn emulation
oh god he really is that retarded, he's using the worst emulator because it's a meme that he's heard of. That's incredible.
Hey user, I've seen your 5X5 a lot and always wondered why Space Invaders Extreme was on there since it was just a Space Invaders game and all. I decided to give it a shot after thinking about it Friday night, and let me tell you, it's one hell of a game. Really surprised me.
The only other games on your list I've played are Shovel Knight and Star Allies. Also pretty good.
based, you should watch near dark
mednafen offers the most accurate saturn emulation at this point, while also being fast. there's also ssf, yabause and yabause forks, but those never seem to run as compatible as mednafen. give it a try before talking out of your ass. while this has changed recently, the last time i tried ssf it required emulating a cd drive, come on now.
>mednafen offers the most accurate saturn emulation at this point
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
holy shit this one's a piece of work PC gamers are fucking retarded holy shit. Mednafen is the worst Saturn emulator and the least accurate of them all. Its support is half baked and poorly handled, it's treated as a checklist feature for autists like you to parade it around. It literally doesn't work, talk with some saturn devs who know what the fuck they're talking about you tranny cocksucker
Cool to hear. SIE is just a joy to play even when it kicks your ass (I haven't reached Stage 5A myself because you need to be fucking great at the game to go that route). I always like recommending parts of my charts to people.
If there's anything on there you want me to explain or sell you on, I'll do it. Same to anybody else in this thread.
Dude chill, it’s just fun to see other people’s tastes

i would call you a pretentious faggot but i actually agree with every single thing you said
however, i already said this in a thread to your specific chart weeks ago, cut it the fuck down, the point of these threads is to play games from the 3x3s that align with your taste, i have no fucking clue what your taste is like when you fill your chart with so much shit from every genre. anyway:

put fucking titles there faggot, how am i meant to know if the isaac you have there is the original or rebirth (guessing it is rebirth which is a minus)
Play Dustforce.
i dont see the appeal of dustforce.
i love super meat boy because it stands out from other platformers by having so many fucking secrets, calls to other indie games, the levels being approachable in any order you want and generally i love the music and artstyle. dustforce has none of that it seems, it just looks generic. seeing webms like this of "look how im kicking ass at this game isnt that cool" dont really do it for me
How many of these are in English?
I've got no clue what F&H, Bridge, or the entire 2nd & 4th rows are, but I get the impression that you just really like what you like.
5/5
all of them except the whole bottom row
Dude, you're so unique and special... do i have to pretend to like obscure shit too in order to be as cool as you?
>any of that
>obscure
you're a real normalfag, aren't you?
this thread is already filled with weird and unique shit, sorry if things you dont recognize trigger you user
>what is the deal with "taboo: the sixth sense"?
I feel like it tells you things you need to hear when you need to hear it. I've amassed different deck themes and use taboo as a framework for readings. Tested it with a few friends and it's even made them alter certain decisions that were weighing on their mind for the better. Seems to have a therapeutic effect. I think it's hard to discuss tarot without going too much into pretense, it's all interpretation. It's said to be a mirror to the soul though.
>i love super meat boy because of everything that has nothing to do with gameplay
okay retard
fucking nice, now i am even more interested
i love the gameplay, but it is everything around it that makes it special for me.
having a game be nothing but a core platformer is boring.
How do you feel about games/media that use Tarot cards as a motif, given that connection you have? I watched a bit of Sayonara Wild Hearts since it just came out and it frames each of its "worlds" with a tarot card which helps form the world around you. It also comes to mind since it's also a neon-heavy arcade-style game built around improving your score through repeated replays which seems to be up your alley based on your posts.
Keep in mind I've not played it myself and am basing this off of ~30 minutes of gameplay footage I saw earlier today.
2/3 +Melee +FF5 -Paper Mario
Those really aren't even obscure, dude.
nigga this is the weirdest shit I ever read on Yea Forums and that's saying something
4/5, but my autism hates that you have three Capcom games in one corner and then MvC2 & REmake in the opposite corner.
no retro
Yup, I'm filing this one under based.
You should definitely play pic related, can tell it's aesthetics are all you.
>Custom Robo, Killer7, Ninja Gaiden, & Bomberman
You're a cool dude.
this does look intriguing, thanks user!
The gameplay makes the game, not "everything around it."
No one ever accused SMB fans of having good taste in vidya.
>i have no fucking clue what your taste is like when you fill your chart with so much shit from every genre
I post 3x3s all the time, usually themed around one sub-genre. However, I do not limit myself to one genre because I actually like video games and have played enough that those classifications feel superficial to me.
Now post your RPG one. Reminder that if doesn't have Darklands or Betrayal at Krondor, you are an ultra pleb.
I think I put Darklands in the big one.
>Dark Sun
>Jagged Alliance 2
>Gothic II
>Betrayal at Krondor
Rare sign of good taste on Yea Forums. Check out Wasteland, if you haven't already.
That is also in the big chart.
yes, the gameplay is the most important aspect, but a game that offers nothing but gameplay is boring. artstyle, music and story is what makes the game stand out, hence why games fucking have them in the first place and why anons are willing to love flawed games when they really speak to them.
when i see dustforce, it looks more generic than fucking flash spam platformers on newgrounds, like some algorhitm pumped out a game based on math, there is no human touch to it.
read
>artstyle, music
Dustforce utterly BTFOs SMB on both fronts, though. Not to mention it has far superior gameplay.
>artstyle, music and story is what makes the game stand out
No they aren't. I have more fun playing an old RPG with shit graphics and no music than I do playing a modern shitty RPG. The gameplay is what pulls me in and I can just play some dungeon synth or folk music and let my imagination fill in the gaps. The same goes for platformers, except we can't really make this comparison here because the art-style and OST of Dustforce is excellent. I get the sense that it tried to be more muted in visual/audio design on purpose because it is a very difficult game where everything needs to be easily visually identifiable and hearing the same song over and over needs to not be grating, and it does that very well without sacrificing quality.
Why is Darklands so comfy?
Probably because it creates a pretty complex world without being some super in-your-face cinematic railroaded experience. You just go out into the Holy Roman Empire and then wander around hoping you don't get raped. Pretty immersive stuff.
>Cinematic railroad experiences are shi-
I really hate that game. Its like CDPR went down a corporate checklist of what will sell games to the dewrito crowd.
both games are good in their own right.
it doesnt to me faggot
the music being calm and soothing makes no sense to me for an action platformer and can in no way outbeat shit like this
youtube.com
and the artstyle is generic as fuck
>lmao just make a forest, a castle and block apartment building because those are literally the most overused locations in video games
>lmao just make the 4 characters you play with essentially look like smash bros costume color changes
well, you are the fucking exception, noone else thinks like this except roguelike lovers
shut up nerd
>the music being calm and soothing makes no sense to me
It makes perfect sense. The gameplay is already intense, it doesn't need music to signal to the player that they should feel like intense things are happening. It needs to not be distracting or stressful.
>noone else thinks like this
True, plebs have always outnumbered patricians.
Imagine having taste this abysmal.
youtube.com
4/5 +God Hand +Diablo +Demon's Souls +MAHVEL BAYBEE -MGS
>not liking MGS
high pleb
>Not liking movie games is pleb
Not him but MGS while not terrible is definitely super overrated. Probably the most overrated series of all time.
>Probably the most overrated series of all time.
That would be Zelda.
Zelda isn't responsible for movie game garbage, so no.
What? I thought we were talking about being over rated. If you are talking about bringing in movie games Final Fantasy had a much bigger hand in that. The entire jrpg genre is now built around cutscenes because of that.
>The gameplay is already intense, it doesn't need music to signal to the player that they should feel like intense things are happening
why the fuck not? why not have music that signals to the player that intense things are indeed happening and pump the mood up even harder, why have a completely contradictory calm soundtrack? if fast-paced music brings your heartrate up too much, why the fuck are you playing a speedy action platformer in the first place?
do you just not like pumped-up music in your games at all? is there literally an instance where you would find music like that appropriate? i cannot think of a more fitting place to use fast-paced music than an action platformer
this sounds like something from one of those gayass "24/7 stream chill lofi hip hop calm your soul STUDY music" compilations, generic
Thanks for the game. It's just like a different themed tarot deck. It details the traditional hero's journey. You start to see these archetypes and symbols repeated even if the influence isn't blatant as showing the the card itself. One that stuck out to me first is the Divinity Statue in DMC as representative to The World aspect.
We are. MGS released in 1998, alongside games like Thief, Tenchu, and Commandos and despite being by far the worst of the four, it received the highest marks because journos love cinematic vidya with no gameplay.
>pump the mood up even harder
I don't want music that produces anxiety when I'm doing surgically precise things. I want music that inhibits mindfulness.
>speedy action platformer
Its a precision platformer.
Are you talking about just stealth games? MGS never reached anywhere near the popularity of Zelda or Final Fantasy. Those two are way more over rated. You had to be crazy to think MGS even comes close to those in popularity.
2/2 Breakdown and Resident Evil 4
9/9
9/9
>MGS never reached anywhere near the popularity of Zelda or Final Fantasy.
And this is relevant how?
Overrated has nothing to do with popularity? Now you are just being obtuse.
well now i see the problem, pumped-up music just produces anxiety in you faggot
>Overrated has nothing to do with popularity?
Learn what the word means before you use it.
>near dark
I'm blown away that I never saw this before. Shit looks right down my alley. Thanks for the heads up. Going to see it the next time I sit down to watch a movie.
>music meant to put you in a state of unease puts you in a state of unease
fucking wow
>pumped-up music is meant to put you in a state of unease
i don't even know why i started arguing with you faggot, no it does not, it is meant to get you "in the groove" so that the sporadic, fast movements you have to do seem natural as they go along with the pace of the music, making the game LESS stressful
you are just fucking autistic
>they go along with the pace of the music
retard
>making the game LESS stressful
Yeah, that's why when you're on the phone with customer service and they put you on hold they play death metal. Serious question, are you a teenager? Because you act like someone who hasn't figured out how their brain works yet.
selective nitpicking of one phrase and ignoring the rest of the post is what i would expect from autistic retards, good job
do you think there is EVER an appropriate place in games to play heavy, fast-paced music or does it just trigger you too much you fucking mongoloids?

>do you think there is EVER an appropriate place in games to play heavy, fast-paced music
when the game wants to make you uneasy, sure.
I've played all those games and while I found some decent, if you asked me if I liked them or not, the answer would be no.
Sorry it doesnt fit your usual Yea Forums circlejerk, I guess.
