But even if you choose not to and play that shit with infinitely tall hitboxes, it still not only works but works better than shit released nowadays. Doom 1 shoots its load early on. The 1st chapter is the best, no doubt. 2nd is ok, hell is a fucking dredge until you hit the 3rd or 4th level. Doom 2 starts and ends high but the middle levels are just... bland. You can tell where the bland brown shit came from. Thy flesh consumed and Plutonia are pretty consistently good, though, and Sigil is just good old Romero.

All monsters behave in a certain way and dealing with them will always require you to not only be fast on your feet but also know what weapons to use against what monsters in what order. I've played FFVI off and on all the way every few years and other than Kefka and Terra I couldn't tell you off the top of my head what the other 10+ characters are, let alone the supporting cast. FFVI is this weird game that people only really remember fondly because they didn't have anything better at the time. The whole "KEFKA DESTROYED THE WORLD" deal once you hit a certain point had impact as a child, but after I grew up it kinda dawned on me that he did a pretty shitty job of it, since almost everyone you met while shit was cash-money survived and are doing well. The only real good thing they did right was the combat, I'll give them that, but story-wise? Chrono Trigger has it beat in spades, especially in regards to hard-hitting shit.
