yes

pretty much

blue burst is better than pso2
pso episode 3 is better than pso2 :^)

Attached: 1545554848516.gif (203x47, 7K)

but how?

PSO2 is not really PSO2. It's more like PSU2 with vague similarities to PSO themes. PSO2 is actually just fullblown weeb ADHD retardation.

It really seemed like SEGA was trying to cash in on the popularity of the brand name of PSO without actually putting in any effort to make a game related to PSO. It was a very disingenuous move and pretty shitty mash buttons game full of autistic sound-bites and mongoloid enemy design.

Attached: 1537699123081.gif (256x256, 227K)

THAT's what was fucking on the ground during that fight?

its your pioneer 1 pals bro
i always wonder why they removed the flying ghost faces after the dreamcast version in that boss, they looked goofy as fuck but so did the ones on the floor desu

Attached: 1553149628781.jpg (625x677, 256K)

Yep. It's the population of Pioneer 1

Attached: Guild Counter.jpg (413x422, 22K)

Yes, but all PSO is still shit. This garbage killed classic Phantasy Star.

Ep2 has some better looking areas, imo. Ep1 is the nostalgia one for me, though.

Attached: 200.jpg (819x641, 87K)

I much preferred EP2's nicer looking areas than EP1 "spookier" stuff. (Caves 1, All of Ruins)

Loved shit like the Temple area & Gal Da Val.

Attached: 1555879573913.jpg (800x600, 144K)

>It's more like PSU2
Huh? PSU actually plays like PSO, unlike PSO2.
PSU is a proper evolution of the combat from PSO, not something differently entirely, it contains the same soul as PSO, and to me feels like as close to a sequel to PSO as we're ever going to get.

Hell, it even flat out lets you play through some of the stages from PSO.

Episode 2 is definitely far cooler looking, but IMO Episode 1 is just better.
The status ailments in Episode 2 were a fucking bitch, and some of the enemies were just OP if you were solo, like that plant in Jungle.

Episode 4 is the worst of all worlds.

Attached: 1545308266952.png (752x1350, 2.41M)

No, it really isn't. PSO2 is an undeniable upgrade to PSO in all but the aesthetics and music.

t. played PSO since episode 2 on the Dreamcast

>episode 2
Shit. I meant version 2.

>It's the population of Pioneer 1
That's fucking grim. I always knew the faces were on the floor, but I didn't really think that hard about it.
Is all of Pioneer 1 trapped in some kind of hell before you kill Dark Falz on hard mode?

PSO has always been quietly unsettling to me. I could never put my finger on why, I still can't.

Anyone else play this? this was my first phantasy star game but I went back and got into Blue Burst afterward

Attached: pszero_1920x1200.jpg (1920x1200, 1.92M)

RAmarl bros report in.

Attached: Ramarl.png (528x1100, 370K)

I played it with my friends, we really enjoyed it.

You don't kill Falz or save those people or anything. It is canon that Falz resurrects and becomes stronger each time he is defeated by Hunters, well until PSP2i maybe but I don't speak moon.

it had soul

Attached: pso offline.jpg (960x720, 153K)

My friend's been trying really hard to get me into PSO2, but fuuuuck, it's a lot to take in.

>You don't kill Falz or save those people or anything.
But I thought Red Rico's ring falling after beating Falz on hard mode implied she was freed or something?

A game where enemies can corner me and hit me and kill me with crits and the battle feels 1 for 1

Vs

I can do flips and now enemies can be stunned by my attacks and I can now get out of any attack that they throw at me.

I like how I had to fight tooth and nail to survive in PSO.

I hate how I never got hurt in PSO2
I

psu is garbage that takes out psos item-hunting and replaces it with boring korean-style enchanting. PSO2 is more of the same but this time with terrible level design that's even worse than pso1 random gen.

based and soulpilled

Attached: 1468175066888.jpg (1599x1004, 162K)

You've obviously never played PSO2. It's far more difficult than PSO ever was. By the way, PSO is so braindead easy that moder pservers tweak various aspects like enemy stun just to make it more difficult.

I just took it as the final confirmation that she was the host for that particular incarnation of dark falz

you obv never played pso1 dumb zoomster

>play Xenoblade X
>it's basically bootleg Phantasy Star and more or less what a proper modern game in the series should be
I'm enjoying the fuck out of it, but now I'm also mad at Sega even more. Post-EP3 PSO2 sucks ass.

PSO was a methodical dungeon crawling game. Eventually you got strong enough to clear through even Ultimate rooms very fast and smoothly, but getting there took a lot of time, items and proper mag growth. Even then you can still get BTFO in Ultimate if you make the wrong move.

PSO2 is pretty much a gacha game where you blow through countless enemies at 4x Fast Forward speed and barely anything in the game is ever a threat to you. It is mindless button mashing and you slice through enemies like butter right from the beginning.

99% of the pso2 playerbase would implode trying to get through the ep2 towers area

I don't think you understand what I am saying.
The combat mechanics of PSO where enemies can come slowly at you and you can attack THE SAME SPEED as them is much more thrilling than turning the game into generic flippy di doo dah generic gameplay THATS IN ALL HACK AND SLASH GAMES.

>psu is garbage that takes out psos item-hunting and replaces it with boring korean-style enchanting.
That's such a secondary concern though. I never item hunted in PSO outside of wanting to get Flowen's Sword because I thought it looked cool as a kid, I never cared for that aspect of the game as it was just mindless grinding to get the item you wanted.
For the most part PSU plays like a far more polished version of PSO

Attached: 03-03-06-29.jpg (800x450, 247K)

Yes. As has been established many times old is good and new is bad.

>this is what PSO2fetuses believe
lmao go dress up your doll you mentally ill faggot

ITT: nostalgic faggots, who probably aren't even in their 30s, pretend that old thing is automatically better than new thing

>I started playing phantasy star on PSO2 and I thought the mechanics of PSO1 was archaic and old

in this post, a faggot who already posted shit but is too afraid to directly reply to anyone

I'm exactly 30

i wish i had friends to play Ephinea and PSO2 with

I haven't ever played PSO2, will when it comes to US soon, but considering PSO is one of the GOAT games I doubt it lives up.

Pretty much everything past C.A.R.D revolution completely fucked up the style, music, etc
PSU and the one on 3ds were especially bad

If the combat from PSO2 was exactly like 1 it would be one of the top played online RPGs.

What's more popular darksouls or PSO 2 with generic hack and slash gameplay

PSO2 is an easier PSU so skip it

it wont hold up, but its still fun in its own right (and of course if its successful a potential PSO3)

I think it was the music, like for the caves that definitely didnt make it comfy. Plus some of the bosses like De Rol Le which looked cool but creepy.

I liked 0. Music was kind of lackluster, but it was pretty fun to play, I still wonder how Sega managed to pull it off. Never bothered with the post game though.

I will still play it, if for no other reason than the current ps4 lineup being incredibly empty.
Hopefully it at least gets SOME things right, preferably the OST

Very first thing I thought of when I first played Demon's Souls was "This feels like PSO".

It's a shame that no other online RPG has ever done PSO style of methodical combat. They always appeal to the zoomer faggots who want to mash buttons and see flashy shit like PSO2fetuses.

>Pretty much everything past C.A.R.D revolution completely fucked up the style, music, etc
Now THIS is nostalgia, how the fuck can you like EP1 and 2 shit but hate shit like this?
youtu.be/4XBJAyhQQ-I
youtu.be/E6sI5SMKThA

Hell no, PSO is very short and lacking on content. PSO2 is massive and has tons of bosses, enemies, classes and much better gameplay in general.

You can't deny that he's right that EP4 is a big step back visually from EP2. Albeit i'm pretty sure EP4 was some shitty side project without any budget put into it, while EP2 actually had effort.

I like PSO2 because it feels like a clear upgrade, but then everything after Episode 3 happened. PSO2 was great in its earlier days, but it's fallen into a state of "how many collaborations can we do in the shortest amount of time?" game. PSO ep1&2 never dipped in quality, though they didn't exist in a time where quality dipping between content and expansion packs was a thing. I prefer PSO2's gameplay, but PSO ep1&2 are overall better when looking at the two games as a whole.

I'm going to watch the fuck out of PSO2: Episode Oracle when it airs though. I liked the first three episodes in the game, even if the third one was Japanese as fuck.

You misunderstood me, I was saying that C.A.R.D revolution was the last one to get the style and music right.
Which most people probably wouldn't agree with as most people absolutely hated 3 for the main gameplay mechanics

Quantity =/= quality. All of PSO2's content is extremely low quality. The gameplay, specially, is the worst thing about PSO2.

When.

Attached: 71eKGHUuuWL._AC_SL1000_.jpg (582x1000, 164K)

Visuals yes even more so since I dislike the desert aesthetic besides the underground section is ok to me but still prefer ep2 and ep4 was probably low budget as hell yeah

Dude what is wrong with EP4's music?

>is pso episodes 1 and 2 better than pso 2?
by a landslide

>I liked the first three episodes in the game, even if the third one was Japanese as fuck.
Just finished the first episode and feels like Im playing an anime. Phantasy Star is anime as fuck in general and there is nothing wrong with that

I like you so heres a gift.
It might not be pso 1 and 2 2019.
But it is something good

100s of levels in this.

NO PSO LEVELS THOUGH.
youtu.be/TtlyO9rc2p8

What do you mean by episode 4?
PSU?
It was shitty compared to the two games before it, nothing was as memorable as shit-tier tracks from PSO like caves

Gameplay in PSO was shit, only deluded boomers think otherwise.

The only good thing about PSO2 was Rappies.

Dark Falz agrees, don't bother him about it.

Attached: 1454986218459.gif (236x288, 707K)

I'm surprised they never bothered to port it to the 3DS.

This could be applied to a ton of modern games too, like Destiny and their constant need to get tons of content out to keep people playing.

PSO2 is weebtrash for trannies and faggots to ERP and gamble on gachashit.

patch is never coming out.
but there's a 100% english guide available. use your phone along with your psp or have a second window open if you emulate on pc.

t. mentally ill zoomer

You know while it's cool you are one of the rare people who liked EP3 like me its also funny to see you have no idea there was PSO EP4, I literally just posted a music track earlier from it.

Atleast enemies can DAMAGE you in PSO1

LASGNALASAGNALASGNA

>I prefer PSO2's gameplay, but PSO ep1&2 are overall better when looking at the two games as a whole.

This is the best way to put it.

PSU Rappy costumes were better bro

Attached: 1556405411398.webm (640x360, 2.86M)

Go play your 4x Fast Forward gacha game, tranny.

>ep 4
You could have just said blue burst, which I never played. I only played on dreamcast and gamecube

>hat's such a secondary concern though
Fuck no its not. It's the entire reason you kept playing PSO

PSU was knockoff shit in every regard and not an evolution of PSO at all. PSU thematically and aesthetically tried to mimic the anime design of earlier PS games while practically skipping over anything relevant to PSO, and PSO2 just goes straight off the rails into brand new shit. The closest PSO experience is PS0 for the DS, but that game is shitty for a variety of it's own reasons too. Regardless, PS0 is still the closest to PSO.

IIRC the main reason I dropped PSU was solely just because Grinders were suddenly luckbased instead of statically improving your weapons, so you could spend a grinder and MAYBE it will level up your weapon or MAYBE it will fucking destroy your weapon. negative infinity out of ten game design. Also the trail effects on weapons in PSU were ugly as sin and made sharp right angles because it didn't sample movements often enough, or better yet could've implemented bezier curves from the points of movement it did sample. The animations were shit, the game design was shit, the graphics were shit, the cast designs were shit, and PSU's only saving grace is that it had decent music.

I hate you so much

I'll give you a TL;DR on current PSO2:
You waste your entire time grinding to max level because all the challenge/gameplay is rendered irrelevant by you receiving overpowered welfare gear starting from level 1.
At Max Level, you waste your time grinding for a weapon and a bunch of copies of it for minmaxing.
There is no content progression, no real game to play. Every so often they release new content, old content becomes irrelevant and you do the same thing all over again, get a weapon and a bunch of copies of it all over again.
No difficulty involved what so ever, you faceroll like a retard through "Event Quests" with a deathball of degenerates, it's continiously the same loop over and over.
The rest of the time you play dress-up with your character.
Literally that's it.

You don't go through Forest 1 and 2 and wow beat Dragon amazing, then spend time in Caves preparing for De Rol, there is no game involved.
It's literally as if you were speedrunning this game, it's really bad.

Yeah the combat is great, easily the best of all games ever, but they ruined the game in every other field.

Attached: considerthefollowing.jpg (237x506, 31K)

PSO is to PSO2 what Classic WoW is to Retail. PSO is unironically the superior game from a superior era of gaming. On a technical level yes PSO2 has more depth in terms of its combat, but the actual experience of playing PSO is far more satisfying even if it's slower paced and easier in many areas. Again much like Classic WoW vs Retail.

PSO2 >>>>>>>>>>>> PSO

>Community is filled with elitists or garbage players who are bad at the game, no inbetween. Have to play alone to avoid the human garbage
>want to enjoy PSU or PSO2
>game is filled with elitists, annoying wiggers, and weebtraps or (in the case of PSO2) racist Japanese who hate westerners (rightfully so in this case)
>once again have to play alone to avoid them

This series should just die from the fanbase alone, they're the biggest trash collection of human beings its ever been my disgrace to come into close contact with.

Attached: Fellow human beings of african descent.png (453x198, 94K)

theres nothing to cope. Sega never localized PSO2 because westerners hated the beta.

A PSO 3 remake comes out, what would you want for it?

Attached: title1-PSO_Episode_III.jpg (250x250, 25K)

Incredibly so.

Attached: 1567196298333.jpg (581x800, 142K)

>The closest PSO experience is PS0 for the DS, but that game is shitty for a variety of it's own reasons too. Regardless, PS0 is still the closest to PSO.
Correct. PS0 made me increadibly hopeful because it showed that Sega *still knew what made PSO, PSO*. Unfortunately they never went back to the formula after PS0 and instead we got the fuck mess that is PSO2.

It's rare to even see a mario in this game

youtu.be/2bxh8QXNjhE
youtu.be/ohYrqZYopLI

This is my game from 2019

>tfw when high school friends tried to get me into PSO.
>Everyone's level 120+
>They are trying to get me to grind from level 1 up to where they are.
>I never really got to go out over their place often because their parents hated having company over.
>Play it on Nintendont just to see how is last year.
>Beat Dragon after like a 45 minute fight praying to not get hit.

I feel like an idiot for not giving it an honest chance back then.

>Also the trail effects on weapons in PSU were ugly as sin and made sharp right angles because it didn't sample movements often enough, or better yet could've implemented bezier curves from the points of movement it did sample.
I like those sharp angle trails in games desu.

youtu.be/mX3POl_bE0Q?t=1300

It doesn't look bad with the up scaling either

Pretty sure PSO2 just got announced for localization.

I fucking love Episode 3, why the fuck aren't there more games like that, it's such an excellent concept

Unfortunately realistic. Sega fucked up by failing to continue the PSO formula and ended up getting pushed out of the focus by capcom's dinosaur caveman knockoff PSO.

There wasn't a single new Phantasy Star game made for the 3DS. The most Sega did during that time was try to fit PSO2 on the vita. It's like they're allergic to success and money.

home...
youtube.com/watch?v=pxDP6RI-DMI

Yeah, I quite liked it, especially the gameplay. Kinda wish they'd make a remake of the PSO games (perhaps just offline with the possibility of local or p2p multiplayer) with gameplay reminiscent of Zero.

Attached: elenor-04-ls.jpg (1600x1200, 218K)

I played like 20 mins back in the day and the dice roll per turn seemed kind of wack.

There's always private servers online, like Ephinea.
Also do people still play Clementine on PSU?

Nothing else because if that happens obviously it would be delusions from my brain as I die.
But either way what it would be great to do is to be part of EP12,4 as well sort of remake, where players can hop into it without it being a different game so to speak.

People still play Clementine, but the overwhelming majority of players are waiting for the actual finished server so they don't lose progress/characters. There's something like 5k players in the discord alone I was told, and only a tiny percentage actively play.

thanks for damage canceling everything bro

hell no, disgusting trannyserver

np

>At Max Level, you waste your time grinding for a weapon and a bunch of copies of it for minmaxing.
hasn't been true for years

I would like episode 1 more if Caves and Factory had better music.
That combined with the fact that they are the largest area's with the best loot (psychowand from Mill liliys, Sinnow Red Arms in the Factory) just made me hate the areas all together.

>tfw Ephinea had damage cancel fixed but reverted the change

I'll NEVER FUCKING understand, that shit makes random parties unplayable. The admin who rolled this back is a cuck.

sounds like a hucast decision

>De Rol Le
>Olga Flow
>didn't play
>Pal Rappy
>Soniti

NOOOOOOOOO

Man, I kinda wanna play PSO:BB with folks again, but man I miss when Yea Forums played together for a bit

Attached: 1538390105116.png (514x396, 237K)

Ex-fucking-cuse me? Source me right now.
They ROLLED BACK damage cancelling? WHY?
WHAT STRATEGY BENIFITS FROM DAMAGE CANCELING?
WHAT CLASS NEEDS DAMAGE CANCELLING TO FUNCTION?
THIS WAS THE SINGLE FACTOR THAT KEPT FORCES FROM BEING ANYTHING BUT DEBUFF BAGGAGE AND THEY IMPLEMENT IT BACK IN?

Attached: 1478910872086.png (1821x645, 956K)

Final Falz
Final Olga
ehh, idk. really, i guess Big Vardha or Falz Double (during Profound Darkness)
Delsaber
Agastya or Gael Gill

>WHAT CLASS NEEDS DAMAGE CANCELLING TO FUNCTION?
hucast being able to say it is the most valuable player because it does the most damage

Imagine
>being this inept at the game to try to justify rolling back a fix that makes the game much more playable for everyone

Nice mental gymnastics. DMC not only cancels damage, it cancels special attack activations, and fucks with enemy AI/moves if the enemy would have normally been killed but gets reset. It causes mob desynchs. It's genuinely a major problem with the game. When it's fixed the game operates like it does offline, which is a lot smoother. DMC is an error in calculation due to how the packets are collected, since no ones internet is one and the same like it was in dial up days.

But no
>REE u disagree with me must be one of the wigger TA drama queens

I honestly might jump back on my 200 FoNewm and just rafoie spam or bring out my RaMarl with Mille Marteaux and pretend that damage doesn't exist.
Its such an asinine change that I cant even fathom why they would do it.

resta

>mash buttons
you should not be doing that on PSO2 either unless you are retarded

I don't use DF, its garbage in vanilla. It's not my fault that that crap exists, i just want to be able to play in parties and not see it EVERYWHERE. I cant unsee it. I shouldn't have to play around it when it was fine being FIXED, even if it wasnt perfect. It's even harder to unsee since Soda allowed Sega's health bars to be displayed. I can see entire boss HP pools regenerating because of last swan spammers.

Attached: mentally challenged autism.png (721x520, 294K)

sega probably had a contract with sony over phantasy star, thats why they got PSO2 and Nova for vita and likely the reason why pso2 wasnt brought over to the west because sony being niggers. Fuck, you cant even speak with cloud(switch) players on vita/ps4 and theres a bit of content like music discs for rooms that you straight up cant listen to if you're playing on switch.

>boomers infighting over damage cancelling
can almost taste your tears while I play a game with an actual decent combat system

I'm still impressed that there is steady stream of Sil'fer porn, even today. Guess those big fat dark elf tiddies are impossible to quit.

Gee my dude you seem really knowledgeable but somehow don't seem to fucking know that the DMC fix they removed was causing shit like enemies being staggered 3 times from a single hit.
There is still a sort of DMC prevention thing in to make it less worse that doesn't cause issues tho and that has never been removed, what the fuck are you talking about that has been removed?

The final bosses in the campaigns are bullshit because they depend entirely on getting good dice rolls each turn. Get a few bad ones and it's GG for you.

The one guy who makes all of that is shit tho.

Yes, but it's the thought that counts.

Is PSO from Gamecube worth to play in single player or its impossible to beat?

>complaining about both elitists and "garbage" players
>complaining about an entire fanbase
there's a 110% chance the problem is you. you sound exactly like the kind of mentally ill person who blames everyone other than himself.

If the gamecube version is anything like Blue Burst 1 player mode should have all the enemies with much lower stats

It depends on the class.

I love braver because NINJA! But mechanically there's only a handful of useful PAs I use. The main two are for mobility. And there's maybe one or two more for very specific CC or boss situations. Other than that it's mostly spamming the "GOTTA GO FAST!" PAs because they do good damage and let you clear stages real quick.

Then you look at the ranger, bouncer, Warrior and so on and you have a little more nuance with your strategy since you're not constantly spamming your GO FAST PAs for maximum stage clearing speed. I don't even want to talk about fucking HERO, from what I understand HEROs are just OP as fuck.

It's possible, if you can find the PSO Plus version of the game which gives you a lot of online missions for use of being offline

>hating Mines

Imagine having such bad taste.

Caves is kind of ass, I'll admit.

Who plays the game solo anyway? EQ are always a party deal. There's the MSQ is the only thing that you have to play solo. I have a 70+ character and I've yet to encounter anything that requires more than spamming mobility PAs for the most part.

its possible to beat on normal at least
no idea if enemy stats scale with player amount

what are extreme quests and endless

They use the fucking ninja swords. Can bouncers use the Ninja swords? They just have those goofy fucking photon shoes. Fuck bouncers.

What's the current "correct" PC hack that people play, and how do I start using it? I miss this game and need some joy in my life, even if I have to play with randoms [spoilers] or worse, Mexicans [\spoilers]

Enemies don't scale with player count IIRC, but once you get to the end of Very Hard/beginning of Ultimate you're gonna wish you had teammates

Enemies are weaker if you play in offline/one-person mode. It's very manageable.

That very much depends who you are playing, RAmar and RAmarl are classes that make it easy to Solo.
Easy to do not for speed obviously in comparison to a HUcast that knows what they are doing.

if you don't mind shit gameplay

Xenoblade X did give me some PSO vibes. It would be cool if they made Phantasy Star JRPG around that design.

Man, Sega is so fucking stupid. They could easily market PSO as a souls like RPG and make a fucking killing. Like you said, PSO1 was already a proto Souls game.

If they made a new PSO game and market it as a hardcore challenging online RPG with enemies and bosses that require reflexes, timing and tactical strategy to overcome they would make a fucking killing.

Instead you have braindead AoE spamming in PSO2 and Gacha garbage for the weeb whales.

All I'm reading here is
>REEE CRITICISM!
>HOW DARE YOU WANT PEOPLE TO BE NORMAL!
>Entire fanbase

That might have been a sweeping generalization on my part, but most of the other normal fucking people hide in 1p mode rooms themselves because of this shit. How in the fuck is it bad to want people to just play a decent level and not be toxic? It should be a common level of play after a game existing for 19 years but the general skill levels gone down and toxicity has gone up. Blaming me for a faultering fanbase is just as bad if not worse than sweeping generalizations by 1 person.

Oh wait, I forgot this community has autism to the nth degree and has issues accepting criticism or blame for their actions.

No.

not sure if they didn't have the running animations finished or if the game is just running at really low fps

It's very possible to beat until Very Hard if you know how the game works. I.E. making a good max level mag as fast as possible instead of feeding it random shit.

I've never tried Ult without buying shit from other players, doesn't sound very fun. Should be possible as well, but probably would require tons of grinding.

Me too Episode 2 felt way more interesting, except for the slog that was the 2 VR spaces

Has there ever been a perfectly satisfying anniversary announcement?

And people still say Soul is a meme.

Considering Forest's completely different design from everything else in EP1, being compact as fuck and how run works in PSO, I feel it's very likely initially there was not going to be any "run."

PSO1 was the progenitor of the DNA of literally every big and popular live service game we have now its almost ridiculous. Hell the reason Microsoft is even footing the bill for the western release of PSO2 is that Phil Spencer is one of like 4 people in the western game industry that recognized this fact.

At least the new director on PSO2 actually played Phantasy Star game and understands what made them good so PSO2 can have a happy twightlight years while Sega quietly works on their next online game with the help of additional Microsoft funding for a worldwide release

rip em and make an AI upscale it lol

>Playing solo on Ephinea
>Get my Force to level 110 or so
>Decide it's time to give Ultimate a shot
>Techniques literally stop doing damage

And that's when I tried to roll a RA and lost interest in the game. Maybe I'll give it another shot some time.

Attached: 1539146914422.png (650x562, 337K)

phil is a gamer at heart but his wants have been pretty bad for microsoft. He got Phantom Dust to be re-released but like 5 people on earth play it.
As a boomer who enjoyed PSO, everything about PSO2 really irks me and seems unappealing. It's a completely alien formula of game design.

The people that have hope for the western version of PSO2 are fools. Sega is going to run it into the ground like they did with the western versions of PSO1 and PSU.

Microshit kept PSO and PSU alive for over a decade even when the game was dead. They aren't going to shut down PSO2 immediately after hyping for it and bringing it to NA.

FO by and large work better as support and in E1+4. They're rough to play in E2 since the amount of spell switching thats needed, but when push comes to shove, they wreck bosses in to another demention.
RA is far the best soloing class, and RaMarl is IMO the best hybrid class in that she has good soloing capabilities, but good support for group play as well.

god i fucking hate sega.

PSO is legit one of the best games I've played in my life. The ending of Episode 1 is fucking incredible, and returning to it on a higher difficulty blew my mind.

Ramarl is great because she's the game's red mage, but uses guns instead of swords. She can fit into any team and works well in solo.

It's amazing how much Sega hated the west back then. Their own demise of the Saturn (and ultimate the Dreamcast) was because Sega of Japan and Sega of America were fighting against each other. Go look up the development history of the first Sonic 3D game. Naka was about to quit Sega if they dared to share the Nights engine with the American branch.

It's likely the same people who will play it for a month and fuck off, it will be completely serviceable to them that way.

The fuck are you talking about the Xbox PSO server was left with the christmas event lobbies on abandoned

and the Xbox PSU servers latest content update was gaining new weapons that reused old models instead of what they were supposed to have because they said it was "too expensive" to actually upload the models

I was never around for that, sounds like it'll be an interesting experience to go through.
I still want to believe some aspect of SEGA has changed over the course of this generation, especially considering something like Yakuza not only is getting special editions in the west but also full on English dubs and timely releases. There's no way they'd be stupid enough to sabotage only Phantasy Star.

I mean, Sega already ran PSO2 into the ground.

They turned it into a gacha dress up simulator for mentally ill weebs. The "content" the game gets is extremely low quality. Just nonstop reused assets and monsters/bosses that look like absolute fucking shit. PSO2 had genuine potential in the first 2 episodes. But sometime after episode 2 they went in hard on the gacha stuff, and the combat system became an absolute fucking mess.

PSO is literally the best video game ever made, prove me wrong

Phil admitted that he's been traveling to Japan to visit Sega's teams for a long-ass time now. That's how he got in touch with the Phantasy Star team to get the PSO2 western release in the first place. But do you really think Microsoft would put in the time and money setting up servers just to be able to launch a 7 year old online game in the west?
Shortly before the E3 announcement Sega had already said that they have started development on their next online game. If that next online game is yet another Phantasy Star game and Microsoft has already made the deal to foot the bill in favor of getting it as a PC and Console exclusive for themselves they have to release something from the IP in the west to at least keep it alive. By the time PSO2 launches in the west this spring it will be just over a full decade since the west saw it's last officially released Phantasy Star game. Basically PSO2 coming to the west is more likely just coming as a simple brand awareness move while the main reason for Sega's and Microsoft's partnership is something you're probably not going to see for another 2-3 years from now.

Here is how PSO2 will go in the West.

>Game comes out

>Wow, it's the official sequel to PSO! I remember that game.
>Hey, this is really good!

>Several days later

>Eh, this is okay

>Reaches EP4 and EP5 content

>What is this shit?

>Reaches "endgame" content

>Fuck this. *quits*

Attached: 1563944469794.png (192x250, 85K)

Not receiving content updates =/= shut down retard. PSO servers were alive for years before they got shut down and same for PSU.

Attached: 1545699276065.webm (960x540, 643K)

More like
>Game comes west
>Game shuts down after 1 year because it's confirmed only to live for one year

chacron is based
tho you missed the part where people will be screaming that it's actually psu2

I mean, Microsoft "brought back" Phantom Dust.. except they canceled the remake and then shit out an absolutely terrible port (that ran at 30fps 480p LMAO) tha tno one played.

Microsoft also "brought back" Panzer Dragoon.. as a short, micro-transaction gimmicky game that used that shitty camera/sensor thing that came with launch xbox 1.

Microsoft also worked on that Platinum Scalebound RPG for years and years then canceled it.

I really wouldn't put my trust into anything Microsoft, much less SEGA does. Microsoft is incompetent despite having a fuck ton of money and Sega is cheap AND incompetent.

Also, where did you hear about Sega's "next online game"?

what's the episode that starts all that anime high school shit? that's the part people will quit out of pure cringe.

Attached: 1569189203381.jpg (1017x786, 94K)

Lower caves was the best zone in PSO. It felt like pure fantasy with a gentle touch of sci-fi. I would have set my character's home there if homes were a thing. Chilling with sharkmen, bullying Pan Arms, catching a ride on the wyverns, and cultivating those poisonous plants that could kill you in one hit.

I prefer Forest 1, Seaside, and Jungle to it personally.

My biggest grip with PSO2 is that player trading is made worthless because of player shops and gear being nothing but stat sticks rather than having unique special attacks.

I like some PSU areas too, but I did not make these. I mean I would know how to but I can not be arsed.

Attached: 1555644070362.webm (960x540, 409K)

You can still connect to private servers if you have a modem/broadband unit for your Cube, that'll give you access to online quests and multiplayer.
In Offline mode, enemy stats are scaled down, but there are also fewer enemies, so it will take a little bit longer to level compared to playing Online mode. You can play Online mode and just play in a locked room if you don't want to play with other people.

That's not really true anymore, the 15*-tier weapons are all very close in power so the focus is instead put in their effects, like a double saber that refreshes your HP and PP depending on how much damage you did with it drawn before you sheath it, or a pair of knuckles that can be used on Hunter or Fighter that give you permanent super armor and damage mitigation. They also added crafting to all NT weapons so now any NT weapon can be comparable to 15*s stat-wise and some are situationally best in slot if you affix it right. Like literally one of the best FI/HU weapons right now is Dragon Slayer-NT, a 10* weapon.

Also 13* units coming next month with what are basically Monster Hunter gemslots where you can affix more dynamic effects onto them and if its like how they treated those slots on weapons those affixes are going to come from both tradeable gear and tradeable capsules

The game is still thriving in Japan though, the status of a general in an west board has zero relevance to the success of the game.

No doubt the thread will be more lively once the game becomes accesible to the general west audience.

>and not going into "fighting monsters in a tuxedo or bath towel" territory
God I hate this shit so much. In PSO2 everywhere you look it's some faggot's shitty OC DONUTSTEEL weeb character. makes the game so fucking disgusting to look at.

Attached: 1555774145016.png (230x230, 67K)

those are more like passive effects slapped on items. PSO1 had active effects with the special attack button on tons of weapons.

Attached: 1549174314300.webm (960x540, 297K)

I think PSO episode 3 was originally going to be like that but they couldn't fit all 3 episodes on a GameCube or Xbox disc. So they cancelled the Xbox port and made the GameCube version a standalone game.

>implying anybody in this thread actually knows anything about pso2 and are even interested in objective fact over blind nostalgia

Attached: 1544233325758.webm (960x540, 401K)

You can't really get those special button effects when the movelist is already bloated for each weapon as it is with the extensive amount of PAs each class that isn't Bouncer has. But a lot of those passive effects can actively change how you play. Point being the weapon designs are more focused on giving you effects that can alter or cater to specific play styles rather than just X% more power sticks. But
also there are also more weapons that do have active effects, like a pair of Wired Lances that will do a Heaven's Punisher-esqe orbital strike that hits in a wide radius when you do a specific PA at max gear turning that PA from an alright single target attack to a really good AoE tool.

Funny enough, I got into FFXIV because it reminds me of PSO. Just standing there doing nothing.

That pic DOES look pretty good. It's painfully obvious that they had an actual vision for the game in the first year or two, and then they saw that gacha money coming in and just stopped trying. They're literally throwing everything at the fucking wall to see what sticks in PSO2. You have people going to real life cities, modern battleships, a fucking shitty looking medieval castle with even worse looking monsters, etc.

And the player characters all look like fucking shit. They all wear goofy clothes tuxedos/skirts, etc.

What's sad is, if PSO3 DOES happen it will be the same shit. PSO3 will be the same gacha infested mess and it will have all the same fucking random nonsense.

PSO2 was really good when it released, up until the 4th "expansion" where they fucked everything up.

What the fuck Sega

Attached: 1559663405114.gif (640x360, 1.2M)

The opening song of this game was phenomenal

Sacrifice Bite no longer gives a damage bonus though

Let's not pretend you wouldn't see the same thing in PSO if it had those options.

That sucks, even then I mostly just played GU/HU or GU/RA back in EP4.

better graphics, faster gameplay, less RNG and more emphasis on strategic use of cards.

Rappies in PSO episode 1 especially in the quest with Samba De Amigo at the end. All the rare ones were cute too.

If you didn't know PSU late life in Japan was already pretty much what PSO2 is. It was F2P with Gacha for clothing, etc.

this makes me feel like Sonic should have just been a kart racer and nothing else desu. game looks great

lol nah

It's a huge investment to get Dragon Slayer that strong though. The crafting mats alone either costs you dozens of desynthed 14 and 15* weapons or upwards of like 60mil, and it's reliant on affixes that are rotated with the seasonal EQ that comes almost every month. Still, the idea that an ancient sword from EP2 can become one of the strongest weapons in the game with hard work is cool.

It's ending also has a nice message for players here too

Dark Souls isn't popular for its combat dude

PSO2 is more fun than PSO

It's intradasting to me that they have this recurring theme of "nothing lasts forever" in the pso1 games after ep2.
youtu.be/R73x9v0AZ3U

That's the song I meant.

Why'd they put so much effort into this for a weird card spinoff?

You should know people can see this wasn't your first post here you absolute monkey.

the psp games are pretty good

It's from EP1 actually, I remember all the floating continent AQ runs when it was probably the most wanted weapon in the game
A lot of people didn't like AQs but they're probably the part of the game I had the most fun with. Should have made capsules auto pickup or something though

Shit I really miss growing up in the early 2000s.

reddit post

Why do you think that matters?

Address his post, not his person.

This game introduced me to Panzer Dragoon music and Jet Set Radio Music

youtube.com/watch?v=WbMSzImxPxw

there's an option now to make all materials auto-pickup

Honestly I would be fine with Microsoft buying Sega if it just meant we got one more fucking PSO game that actually felt like PSO1. Fuck PSO2 and it's weeb garbage. I'm still shocked Sega hasn't tried to get Atlus to try again at an SMT Online game.

They actually have those though, maybe not a brand new special attack but they change some PAs to the point where they're pretty different. Like orgei TMGs making one of the PAs fucking broken.

Because to them it wasn't supposed to be some weird spinoff game that everyone would hate?

It reminds me of like how FF11 turned into a MMO in a long running series that some people still refuse to acknowledge as an "actual" FF game along with 14.
Unfortunately for Sega their risk take was shat on.

Well at least I'll always remember the OST

funny that the FF mmos that "ARENT REAL FF" are better final fantasy games than most of the "real" final fantasy

PSO2 challenge mode were some of the best times I had. Taking on something with a bunch of people. None of us knew anything. We had to learn on the fly. It was a blast.

The little arenas are cool too imo that retain that PSO aesthetic.
Tower of Caelum elevator rising out of the under ground portion into daylight at the climax of the music 1 minute intro is fucking rad.

It's a shame challenge quest is no longer relevant, would be fun seeing all the salt in the English server

Artist/source?

Its amazing how despite being kind of outdated in terms of tech, it's still kind of nice to look at.

Most dreamcast games still look good as fuck today, like sonic adventure 1 still looks great unless you're looking at any of the gutted ports.

>far more difficult
nigga what game you playing when pso2 was challenging that was long time ago, today its so easy except solo garbage

Post rappy.

let the 2019 player base play pso2 before ep4, we can get fail eq every time

>enjoy PSO2's base gameplay
>endgame is following a boss schedule and grinding 50 hours for a shit looking drop that's special ability is doing 9% more unconditional damage
>then grinding several times that for stacks of cash and SAFs and fodders to make the item stronger
>don't even do anything cool, just big numbers, and look like shit usually
>units are even worse due to no SAF and the majority of players hide them because shit looks
>can't even trade high star shit you get if its not for your class(es)

Fuck I just want to grind out cool weapons and gear with neat effects, gearing is so boring because gimmick/interesting builds barely exist due to everything just being +damage/crit/life/pp increases.

i've actually been playing a lot of PSO v2 on Dreamcast over the last week, it's been really nice, even if I'm not playing it online.

I do play on Ephinea but the experience is somehow just not the same, maybe it's the controller and limited buttons or the fact that the graphics aren't the same.

I wish i could get my hands on a copy of PSO for Xbox, that was a weird port

Stop lying, twerp.

>gutted ports.

are you really playing pso2 in 2019? stop making shit up

youtube.com/watch?v=U-mCypSsSmg
This was always my favourite bit of that ost.
Honestly, PSO had fantastic music in general.

was there a big loss in graphic quality with the port from dreamcast to gamecube or was it just from GC to BB where shit was lost? They completely fucked Sonic adventure from dreamcast to gamecube aside from some higher poly models.

unironically yes today, after 2k hours in pso2 i find pso more fun when it was my first time playing it

I was talking about that song earlier, not only is it great but I fucking love that the climax two minutes in is tied to the exact moment the elevator comes out of the underground section and into the open
youtu.be/zE5KzPmw_yA
Not the best video but you can see it in there

You could debate that because a ton of things were changed from DC to GC too, for example or this Frozen Status effect

Attached: 1544262721787.png (338x338, 204K)

>I fucking love that the climax two minutes in is tied to the exact moment the elevator comes out of the underground section and into the open

FUCK YES it was the absolute tightest shit.
One of my favourite musical transitions in any game just for that moment.

it was sakai idea, his ego got the better of him he gets shit by the nips everywhere, he finally gone from the public eyes but the game is already beyond fixing.

PSO2's difficulty is all doing time attacks. Grouping up to kill the boss as fast as possible is time attack. Endless is time attack. Solo quests are time attacks because you worry more about being too slow than failing the quest otherwise by dying, which you can't sometimes.

It's horrible end game because in the end due to grouping problems and how unsatisfying grabbing 11 tryhards to stunlock boss for 2 minutes is, your TA experience will become solo experience. Then you're playing multiplayer game singleplayer with your multiplayer experience being twitter posting or streaming. Don't forget that unless you can compete with several guys dumping tons of hours and money into gear alone your TAs are irrelevant. Basically a normal player's end game is schedule running for best in slot gear and at most a few solo quests.

That's unless you really want to jump into piss easy group content and show them how much DPS you're doing using a banned unofficial plugin, or since EP6 in some content also official DPS meter that might appear. All that while putting on airs as if the whole group owed you for shaving a few minutes off the quest.

>imagine wanting to give your game imaginary points on a mongolian basket weaving forum that you reply directly the the OP with the same IP you already posted shit previously with in this thread

PSPofetus here. Always wanted to play Ephinea, but I'd want to go in with friends so it's less intimidating. Same with PSU.
I just wanted PSO2 to be PSPo2 with jumping and better graphics.

Do I have to post my leet rockbear score or what?

PSO is actually a dungeon crawler RPG.

PSO2 is a character-action game with RPG elements.

Also the fact that it's freemium makes the design a lot more bullshit since they have to tempt player to pay.

pso2 killed the sci-fi horror vibe PSO had in exchange for anime gacha shit

Ephinea as far as servers go seems fairly welcoming. I'd argue that applies to most of the Phantasy Star community, if not SEGA communities in general.

What Section ID and class should I roll?

>I just wanted PSO2 to be PSPo2 with jumping and better graphics.
That is gay my dude, the jumping is one of the reasons why I feel it's worse comapred to PSP2 to me.
Vertical movement can be cool but not in the way PSO2 does it with everyone being able to jump like fucking rabbits on crack.

Attached: 1560101966285.webm (960x540, 465K)

>sci-fi horror vibe PSO had
Phantasy Star, including PSO, has always just regurgitated whatever anime trends were popular at the time.

I'm going to summarize this sperg that's been shitposting
>JUMPING BAD
>FAST MOVEMENT BAD
>NOT OLD ANIME IT BAD

Attached: 1562139701548.webm (960x540, 707K)

How do you even get sunset forest? Just the burning rangers quest right?

>JUMPING BAD
He's right though. You also can't debate that the super anime-y shit of PSO2, like to the literal point of a highschool plot, isn't retarded.

If I'm going to try PSO1 by myself, should I try the private server or emulate on gamecube?

This one is immediately my favorite for some reason. I don't know why, but it hits me right away.

If you're soloing i'd probably recommend GC. Dunno though, maybe others think different there.

? Sunset forest is the ultimate difficulty version. All EP1 areas got changes in Ver 2 on DC in ult to give you another reason to spend money on the game again.

what was the lore behind having hydraulic presses in hallways

I like how the mentally ill PSO2fag itt is replying to everyone claiming they're lying lmao.

I said post rappy.

Just play on Ephinea. The console versions are great but the quality of life stuff they added in the PC version (Episode 4, new drop rates, etc) are worth jumping over.

That just sounds like you're too much of a brainlet to analyze art styles, setting, atmosphere, etc.

Oh yeah I forgot PSO2 was also built of psp2i or something, there was a youtube video showing this but hell if I can find it. Was footage of the game before the game's actual "alpha" test stuff even.

Attached: 1543101138065.webm (960x540, 700K)

Not really. PS1,2 and 4 had consistency in world and character design. Tonally, the only real deviant is PS2 because of the sheer amount of tragedy they shoved in though

You guys are making me want to break out the Wii and do a run through Ep 2

user think about the types of enemies you encounter in the ruins.

isn't the fact that they have specific enemies that wield swords, enemies that weild guns, and and enemies that cast techniques just a little suspicious?

The PSO formula is so simple and effective, it's a wonder that it hasn't been copied 1:1 or reskinned the same way Diablo and Doom have for different themes like a medieval setting or something.

>Its such an asinine change that I cant even fathom why they would do it.
Nobody here seems to realize the problems that this fix was causing. Enemies weren't functioning properly and bugging the hell out.

It's not a big deal anyways. Learn to play around DMC like everyone has for the past 10+ years

>hucast being able to say it is the most valuable player because it does the most damage
huct will still do the most damage even if you fix damage cancelling. The thing is that fixing dmc is not as simple as all of you seem to think.

I prefer dmc anyways, it adds depth to your strategy so you aren't just mindlessly spamming shit (which you probably are doing anyways)

What sci-fi aesthetic do you call this? Dreamcastcore?

what exactly is damage canceling? how does it work

The way you play around DMC is to either have a synergetic link with three other people and take turns with who you damage, avoiding AOE attacls completely or to just not do anything.
Guess which one is more likely to happen in a run of the mill party.

If two or more damage sources hit a target at the same time, only one damage source will go through. This means in games where some players are hitting for 2k+ on enemies but you're only hitting for 100~ you can cancel their damage.

Doesn't have to be this way. If there were better guides out, players wouldn't mindlessly spam. They most likely just don't understand how the mechanic works at all.

>avoiding AOE attacls completely
This also isn't completely true. There are plenty aoe techs and weapons used, it's just a matter of knowing which spawns to use them on and where its necessary.

Also, you're not really "taking turns" on enemies most of the time. Sometimes that is true, but for the most part you can just target a different enemy than your teammates.

I never got why they were they were fought before Amplam Umbra. Why are little girls that look like they were experimented on by Umbrella Corporation guarding a giant evil blob? And yes, I know about the cloning backstory for them.

Admittedly the concept art for PSO2 doesn't look awful, it just looks more like a standard modern sci-fi anime like PS Zero.
I still prefer the look of PSO, but thats just me.

Attached: pso2_conceptart_Z0VHF.jpg (720x536, 93K)

That shit looks Deviantart-tier.

because it is you retard, its shitty fan art not the actual concept art

what's that censored part?

Attached: eyes.png (480x372, 73K)

wow that sounds like shit.

I still remember playing PSO on Xbox and hearing dudes on mic using the voice changer

It is, but luckily players have developed strategies that work around this. It's a staple of the game at this point honestly.

Once you understand the concept of how it works, the game will become a lot clearer. For instance, even things that don't deal damage at all can still cancel damage. Things like zalure, jellen, megid, or hell/demons misses can still cause damage cancelling.

This is why its fairly important to keep that in mind when supporting a team as a ranger or force. Hunters mostly don't have to worry since they usually single target enemies, but even they can end up damage cancelling teammates if they aren't careful.

Fuck I wish PSO got a proper remake with models like that

PSO honestly had some pretty cool weapons.

>Chainsawd
>Flowen Sword
>Heavens Punisher
>Dark Meteor
>Yamigarasu

thank you based webm poster
and yes pso is way better than pso2

Giant evil blob was intradasting, it had a ton of shit stuck into it.
youtu.be/I3E4ciHmI1k
See how many models you can spot that it assimilated with.

voice changer?

No you haven't. You're a mentally ill zoomer who has no clue what he's talking about.

In the settings you could change your voice to be higher or lower pitched which masked your voice on the mic. There were guys on voice chat pretending to be girls in some parties.

>PS thread still up this long
Its all PSO/2 talk but it's still nice to see (even if I'm still hanging on to the old games)
Actually they came from Phantasy Star 3, which isn't well liked from the original games (I like it though). I've always found it ironic how much fans and Sega ignore that fact even though they're one of faces of the series now.

Attached: lena1.jpg (462x491, 28K)

>pso was a super unique perfect game that had an artstyle that was totally original and was in no way related to japan's anime/vidya trends and if you disagree with me then you're a mentally ill zoomer

Attached: 1552306125278.jpg (1024x768, 268K)

PSO certainly followed anime trends of its time, that doesn't mean its art style isn't unique. PSO also had a dark atmosphere that veered on to Horror at points. Sorry you're too much of a brainlet to analyze art, settings and atmosphere.

Phantasy Star Nova is shit. Portable 2 Infinity is better. Fuck Sega.

Not him, but if you think this artist was copying a trend, then the artist did a pretty terrible job. There's a detail choices and style that you will not see from anime in that era aside from maybe similarities in one or two anime.

It is quite unique, even the image you posted. You aren't a very artistic person if that's the image you choose to represent this trend you speak of.

PSO2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> PSO, is not close or open for discussion. Even PSU and PS Nova are better than PSO.

>is not close or open
make up your mind

PSO2 is soulless in game design and is a mockery of the Phantasy Star IP.

Even more than that mobile game that was released as part of the franchise's anniversary?

PSO is shit.

They did cite PSO as an inspiration for X which was nice. Still need to finish it but I hope for a sequel to it.

I miss this game anons, it hurt even more when Sega said they weren't releasing anymore PSO in the US due to pirating, which had nothing to do with it.

They just sucked ass at advertising. What I would give for a remake of PSO episode 1&2 remaster on the switch. I played that game forever on my gamecube and even got my cousins into it when they were really little when I went to babysit them.

Hold me bros...

>release it with no content
>then refuse to do dlc
>then stick the final nail in it by porting PSO2 to the vita
They literally killed it themselves. No one was going to buy that when PSO2 was free and also bigger and better.

MH is PSO for casuals

I still have it on my phone but don't bother with it much since I can't read nip well. It's better than what I was expecting but I still like the original games more and wish it wasn't similar in display/concept to FGO's.

pso2 was on vita before nova though I thought

Still 10 times better than FGO at least, the similarity is quite superficial anyway
I'm pretty sure it was

If true then that would be even more reason for someone not to buy Nova.
They didn't even give us oversea fans a pity text translation.

Is this some shit I recall webber saying on psow? I would not believe anything that dude says straight up, he is sega's little monkey that now runs the sonic twitter.
Dude probably gave people a BS reason because he was tired of people nagging him about it.

Any actual translations for it at this point? Still pretty disappointed (but not surprised) that this was their 30th anni project but if I could understand more I'd probably keep up a bit more since in the end I just miss the series (and don't really have time for PSO2 these days).

Who else here remembers the official sega forums?
>that one time edward called a dude complaining about xbox psu not receiving content as the pc/ps2 version a spoiled brat
So much shit went down in that place that would get Sega absolutely anally devastated nowadays.

I haven't really been keeping up with it either so I can't help you there.

are there archives? Sounds like fun to read through

I see, it's alright though.

only anything that you can find on the way back machine I would assume
sega said they did archive it and will try to reopen at some point but I fucking doubt it, its been a year and they have never said word of it since

People still play. Checkout Sylverant. A lot of PSO PC people play but that is compatible with the dreamcast. Blueburst has more people though.

Is PSO2 actually worth playing? I keep hearing that it has really good "good parts" when it comes to the story (a friend keeps bringing up episode 3) but then it becomes dogshit afterwards. I've only ever played PS0. I also heard something like "Sega removed the first 3 episodes" or something like that a while back.

Problem?

Its worth playing, the combat is really good. Story is pretty good aside from very VERY low points of ep4. Ep1 is a lot of world building, ep 2 and 3 are very good, ep 5 is a lot of "this happened but we're telling it to you through this high fantasy setting also PS1-4 reference". Ep6 is ok so far.

yes and so was psu

I'm honestly happy this thread has gone on this long. PSO threads still seem to be the best threads here.

Ugly.
