Didn't Gears 5 flop hard?

Why does a full priced game need to have any kind of microtransactions?

Because game developement costs have gone up significantly, but you still pay the same price upfront.

>developement costs have gone up significantly

The potential playerbase has also gone significantly up.

>game developement costs have gone up significantly
lol no
The only thing that has gone up in the past decade is marketing costs.

that's because they choose to spend million of dollars on graphics when most people probably don't care that much
most of the time the graphics aren't good anyway so it just makes you wonder why games cost so much to make in the first place

Only because more people than ever are buying video games doesn't mean that they all will buy the same game. If a game sold 100k in the PS2 era the sequel does not automatically sell a million on ps4.

>If a game sold 100k in the PS2 era the sequel does not automatically sell a million on ps4.

That's why they should focus on the game and make it as good as possible to attract more buyers, not try to nickel and dime the customer.

Uh no

Sorry Fucko Dunkey said game bad

No.

Halo5 was given tons of free content thanks to it and became one of the best arena shooters of all time

Dunkeys video on xbaks was shit

>that's because they choose to spend million of dollars on graphics when most people probably don't care that much
Are you on crack or something? For the average consumer graphics are the most important thing, since that's the first thing they see.

>That's why they should focus on the game and make it as good as possible to attract more buyers, not try to nickel and dime the customer.
Games have gotten substentially better, only on Yea Forums will you ever hear a retarded opinion that newer things are automatically bad because people here are miserable and clinge to better times which are so far in their past that they glorify shitty games.

*marketing costs have gone up significantly

It's not on GOG so i'm not buying it. Simple as that.

>Because game developement costs have gone up significantly
lie its gone down kys faggot

You know we used to monitise by making 1 payment get you the entire game and the occasional large expansion.
Not only could they easily reduce those costs by not focusing so hard on extra graphics but sales have also gone up across the board.

fpbp

it's shocking to me that people are actually buying these shitty games for full price and even paying for microtransations on top of it. i sure hope you guys don't do this.

>supporting the people that basically make content for your hobby is bad
You're a fucking leech. Enjoy being insignificant forever while also never being part of a social group. You are scum and nothing more.

more like supporting the people that ruin your hobby.

>Games have gotten substentially better
And you can prove it with examples i take it? And i don't mean graphics, but gamedesign and gameplay.

Just compare a game like skyrim to morrowind. The quality of life improvements have made gaming better overall.

charging for skins in a 3 hour single player game with 20 hours of repetitive open world filler is the perfect game design. you may not like it but this is what peak gameplay looks like.

even if this wasn't weak bait, skyrim is almost 10 years old.

And? It came out after morrowind which proves that newer games have improved over older games? Are you really mentally disabled?

>lowqualitybait.bmp
I was ready for serious discussion, but i guess i should have known better.

morrowind vs. skyrim is about the weakest meme you can go for. nobody will fall for it, sorry kid.

You are the fucking problem. You know what one of the biggest things is that has changed? Games have goten more accessible. That's why you hate newer games, because everyone can enjoy them. You literally don't care about quality, you want to be able to gatekeep people. Skyrim is factually better than morrowind, only because things are now shown on the map doesn't mean you can't go and read your shitty flavortext, but even though they give you the option you are angry that other people don't have to do the same boring shit you do.

Maybe don't waste your budget on marketing and getting literal who's in your game.

>We have horse armor tier transactions but at least it's not a lootbox!

Fortnite does this too, what is a smoking

microsoft really need more major ips than gears halo and forza

say what you want about sony and nintendo but they have extremely powerful and varied first party games, microsoft don't

This.

>We have no lootboxes, but we have a shit ton of in-game items that you can buy in our store! We're saving gaming!

>Introduced paid online
>tried to force always online with the Xbone
>still trying their damn hardest to stop you from actually owning your games

Nah, fuck Microsoft

>Most people don't care
don't you see the OH NO NO every time there's a bad texture in the game
like look at the autism in pokemon about a tree texture

lmao retard
the game industry unironically spends shitloads for marketing "because hollywood does it"
hollywood uses their marketing budgets to tax evade, they spend like 10% of it
you are as retarded as they are
kill you'reselve

Because France wants you to be able to sell your digital games.

It's just like I saw that libshit fatfuck say, now everyone's appalled and repelled by lootboxes, companies are expecting pats on the back and praise just for going back to the microtransation shitfest scene from BEFORE the boxes, which we WERE pissed off by back then but now doesn't seem so bad.

I actually have zero problems with quest markers. Accessibility is fine when it is done sensibly, and quest markers no matter of Yea Forums hivemind screeching is sensible thing. What i have problem with is interface for example, in morrowind i could have the whole stats and inventory on the same screen, i could rearrange them as i wanted and do anything, i wish right there without mods or any other bullshit. In skyrim you got that shitty mobile abortion that isn't even stylized like in oblivion. And let's not even go into gameplay department where the whole rpg side of things got gutted, not to mention corner cutting with shit like spell creator. Sure you could break the game twice over in morrowind, but that what made you feel like a fucking archmage.

MORE MONEY!
WE DON'T MAKE ENOUGH MONEY, MORE!
-every publisher on the planet

Reminder that
>UK's Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) issued a report directly against EA and the publisher members of ESA recommending that loot boxes in videogames be subject to the same regulations as gambling, which would include content labels on games with paid loot boxes and a BAN on selling them to minors.
>The ESA represents major publishers, such as Tencent, Activision Blizzard, Bethesda, Electronic Arts and Take-Two and thus has a vested interest in avoiding regulation.

Tldr the free to play subscription model like in fortnite with lootboxes where they get their money from dumb kids opening lootboxes with random shit in is eventually going to sink and hard once high courts rule against the publishers and their gambling scam. The only reason it hasn't is because of slow administrations, organizations like esrb looking to not lose money or paid individuals working there looking looking out for the interests of publishers that have given them bribes.

EA making fools of themselves: youtube.com/watch?v=nVYEqaFZJWo

This is much more important than the french court ruling that "It is forbidding Steam from having a clause that forbids the resale of games" meaning in France you could possibly sell your steam account and password in an ad to another french resident (the fact that this is confusing and making problems for everyone because it is basically opening the flood gates to scams and the opportunity to scam people by selling it multiple times).
It's funny because retards have been spamming threads about it instead of the important thing and the DCMA ruling.

>gatekeep
hello r/games, how your first day on Yea Forums?

>Skyrim is better than Morrowind
you have to be stupid to post this
shame that you are just passing through life looking at things skin deep instead of acquiring real knowledge

see you on social media friend

What the fuck?!
It’s literally the same mode as Fortnite except they transferred the cost of battle passes into a flat fee to even start the game.
Everything costs so much money in that game too for what are mostly minor model changes.
>”hey it’s woman without sleeves”
>”hey it’s man two with hat and white armor”
>”twenty dollars each please”

Everyone's using the spite against loot boxes to try and look like good guys just for not having them, even if what they DO do isn't much better

Microsoft is in a weird position where it hardly matters if their games sell
They're in the investment game, not the sell things game
"10 million on game pass" looks better to investors than "1 million people buy gears 5"

>Gamers can just buy their own currency from us
Wow how cute and novel and not at all a bullshit form of separating one's concept of money from purchasing.
Reminder that video games are dead--deservedly so.

gaming isl literally the most proffitable creative industry in the history of the world lmao get the fuck out of here with that nonsense, costs have rissen, marketing budgets even moreso, but all of that is dwarfed by the ludicrous profit and publisher's avarice

I honestly wouldn't have a problem with full price games having microtransactions if the games actually had legs. Gears 5 is not something people are going to be playing a year from now, why would I bother with purchasing cosmetics with real money for it?

Things like Overwatch and Fortnite make more sense. Gears 5 is just the fifth game in the Gears franchise, it will eventually be replaced, nothing will transfer from one to the other.

>still hasn't made a single good game this entire generation
Not even close.

Apparently, from articles online, it seems like it didn’t sell that much, but Game Pass made it get more than 3 million players in its first weekend. With Game Pass, the game could sell like 10 copies and it would still be considered a success because millions are playing it through Game Pass.

Because mouthbreathers will pay it, why shouldn't it?

Yes they have, there are a ton of great hits from Microsoft and Xbox Game Studios this generation.

>going back to the system before lootboxes that was just as bad is revolutionary

Not actual development. It’s all the retarded marketing they do. They fail to realize that if you make a good game it’ll get players very easily as word of mouth and positive experience will draw in more than all the flashy ads in the world. Micro transactions are a must have because you idiots enabled them in the first place which has allowed everyone of them to keep pushing them because dumb faggots will continue to be paypigs. It’ll only go away when it ceases to be profitable and/or becomes a detriment. If gamers stopped buying games with micro transactions they’d get a clue pretty quickly, but again retarded paypig faggotry

>Phantom Breaker
>A Xbone game
