>HECU game never ever
It hurts.
Reminder that we live in the worst timeline
looks great t'b'h
Though you can clearly see they're not using Source so it feels... different
It’s okay, you’re not alone with this feeling.
>you can clearly see they're not using Source so it feels... different
It does but you can understand why when you see this:

Also, the soundtrack is not too shabby as well (on par with Black Mesa imo):

>Making HL3 with Epics engine
We are entering levels of cucked that shouldn't be possible
Gabe cucked us with Episode 3 so it's only fair the Borealis team cucks him by using a different engine to finish what he had started.
I don't see the point in making an average at best video game with HL theme. If you wanna know how the story was going to end, just read Marc's "fanfic." If you want to see it in action, Source Film Maker it.

Half-Life 2?

HL2 was made in early 2000s, not 2019. It is what set the standards for the years to come. Only fair for it to be average after more than a decade has passed.
Remakes are a different thing alltogether.
>Remakes are a different thing alltogether.
Well, the foundations of Project Borealis were set by Epistle 3 and various concept art that leaked during these years, so you can almost thing of it as a reimagining of the game Valve had started and for whatever reason abandoned.
Considering what an utter piece of shit the Source engine was, I hardly consider that a bad thing.
imagine a game in which HECU, Black Ops and the rest of the Science Team actually cooperate with each other instead of throwing spanners in each other's works
would probably go against the tone of HL1, but would be fun to watch.
Source isn't shit, it's just outdated. I'm just a bit sad that my toaster won't be able to play Project Borealis when it cames out.
Poetic justice.
post music

I gotta say, I was kinda bummed out when I found out Kelly Bailey used stock music:
>youtube.com
>youtube.com
It's not rare to see video game compositors use music from other media (just think DOOM) but I was convinced Kelly was some sort of musical savant, considering just how fresh and unusual the OST sounded the first time I heard it.
>Source isn't shit, it's just outdated.
It was a piece of shit in 2004. A hilariously broken piece of shit that would crash if you spawned trains facing in a direction the engine didn't like. It was absolute torture to work with and every project that was naive enough to use it suffered the consequences. Valve just can't into development tools.
i did heard about Hammer being a nightmare to work with (and SFM too, to an extent), but the capabilities of the engine still hold up nicely to this day.
Making music out of samples & carefully arranging them is a more demanding job than what it seems.
youtube.com
What capabilities? Architecturally it was a dinosaur at release. There's a reason Black Mesa runs so terribly. There's a reason Counter Strike's Battle Royale mod is fog-ridden and literally the only "open" level design the engine is capable of doing is a hill with a peak in the middle. Anything else fucks the non-existent occlusion system.
I don't like video games anymore.
seemingly seamless and intuitive handling of physics
responsive vehicle driving that's still very enjoyable even today
works extremely well on a potato (my laptop is nearly 6 years old and i can run Black Mesa on High with no lag, but some ubisoft games give me a very hard time)
good facial animation (Alyx and GMan work well even today)
FOR FUCKS SAKE GABE I WANT TO BELIEVE!
to be frank, Project Borealis looks very good for a fan project
kelly's ambient music is fucking top tier

the music kit he made for csgo will probably be the last we will ever hear from his music
and using samples is not necessarily a bad thing as long as said samples are good

this track hits you in the very first notes for some reason
no it doesnt nigger, it looks bland and basic, they literally copy the same shit from HL2 when everyone knows HL3 would have had an entirely different weapon selection and enemies
Everyone, raise your crowbars in mourning.
Even Silent Hill 2 OST was full of samples
>it releases on Epic Store only
could you FUCKING imagine.
>and using samples is not necessarily a bad thing as long as said samples are good
I know art is derivative by nature and relies on observing and improving upon what came before but it still feels a little bit like cheating. That doesn't mean I don't love Half-Life's OST to death, just that I don't respect Kelly as much as I used to.
VALVE
it's better that we never got hl3 anyway. they wouldve pulled some shit where the borealis is actually a time machine teleporter. go to black mesa only to have gordon be the one who originally fucked the experiment (behind the scenes). have gman stasis you and tell you try again. all while flashing gameplay of the trilogy.
