I tried it once, and I was just running around for 10 minutes, waiting for something to happen, and eventually got killed out of nowhere. Then I quit, because I found it boring and had no idea what my objective was or how to achieve it.

No fucking shit dumbass the game is free to play. All of the skins and emotes and what not are completely cosmetic and optional. The entire point is to make stuff that people will want to spend money on.

The game is built around making you feel like the cosmetics won't be around for long (maybe) and it's probably just better to buy them now or miss out on a chance.
Plenty of other games that don't do this, are completely F2P and have reasonable prices instead of 20$ for ONE decent skin, sometimes more.

The whole "have to build a fortress around yourself in 0.5 seconds if you're being shot at" thing turned me off of ever trying it. Not only does that look goofy as fuck, it doesn't sound the least bit satisfying either.

I enjoy Fortnites cosmetics a lot, probably the only thing I enjoy about the game but there's no denying that the practice they use to get more purchases is fucking predatory.
LoL has a few legacy skins but all of these legacy skins are obtainable through other means or simply just waiting.
PoE has a huge cosmetic shop but the only time they'll even mention the shop is there is when there's a big stash tab sale on.
Fortnite will literally tab you into the cosmetic store when a "big" skin drops, fuck off retards.

Fortnite has one of the least predatory and fairest f2p models on the market, and that's a fact. The cosmetics are overpriced but there's nothing otherwise egregious about it, I wish every f2p game had a battle pass.
