What am I in for and what should I expect? Any general tips? Also general Tales thread
First time playing Tales of Berseria

Have fun. The prologue is a bit slow, don't drop it until this girl becomes a playable party member.
is there not IP bans from someone spamming the same berseria thread three times a day?
Enjoy it. If you're starting to feel bored switch up characters to play as.
Play on at least hard mode and do link encounters whenever you can to significantly up your stun rate, keeps combat much faster paced. No other real tips, it's a pretty straightforward game worth only a single run.
Don't listen to this faggot. Just put it on easy and enjoy the story. Play as Velvet and spam RT every chance you get.
Sorry I'm not here 20 hours a day to notice like you apparently
Is the combat good for a jrpg or should I expect piss combat but intriguing story?
combat so repetitive it gets old fast.
nice story and characters.
>easy modo
I'm of course working under the assumption he wants to actually play his video game, not treat it like a VN. Velvet is indeed the best choice to control if you want to be a literally immortal gorilla on any difficulty.
velvet's fun to play at first but once you get used to the combat switch to other characters since she makes the game super easy on literally any difficulty like another user said. one thing I wish I took advantage of earlier was the tag mechanic once you get more than 4 party members, you can actively switch between multiple characters in your current slot (different from switching who you're controlling) and you get rewarded in some way for using it, I think it was like an extra soul but I can't remember.
I mean I agree in general that only shitters play easy mode, but the combat in Beseria is so fucking boring that you might as well get through it as soon as possible
Just a heads-up, this game is very light on the sidequest department compared to some other tales of, so don't bother backtracking everywhere until the very end
Does anyone control anyone else but the main character ever in these games? I went through vesperia with only token instances of controlling anyone but Yuri.
Just because the blue guy doesn't buy they are cute as a justification doesn't mean it isn't a perfectly fine one.
Depends on the Tales game. But recently they've gotten consistent at making other characters fun to actually use
Combat is better than Zestiria, but still bot Vesperia level. Good game overall, suffers from modern tales syndrome. Great characters redeem a lot of faults. Just sit back and have fun; it isn't very hard
>Game literally stars a female
>Hurr Tranny
This is the problem with that dumb comic.
I enabled god mode instead. The combat starts out okay in this game but later on becomes absolutely abysmal. Worst part of this game.
Try playing as characters other than Velvet.
>expecting /pol/acks to respond well to reason
Mistake number one.
Try to use every character and try out the best and smoothest combos for each one that fits for most enemy types. Play as Eizen for the most fun youtube.com
Have fun, OP!
Game sucks and the series really went to shit after Zestiria. It's polished Zestiria but still a turd of a game.
I'm not even looking forward to the new title because it always looks pretty in the trailers and then you realize it's all the same shit as before.
Main character almost always feels the best to play (I can't even begin to imagine playing Xillia 2 as anyone other than Ludger) but Velvet is actually fucking braindead, I wouldn't have finished the game playing as her, found Eizen and Rokurou much more enjoyable the whole way through.
Again, play on harder difficulties and always chain link encounters to keep the flow much quicker. There's fun to be had to playing keepaway until you can ball everything up then AoE stun it to death, especially with stuff like Eizen's upgraded r2 where you're zipping around the battlefield destroying stuff. It's definitely not great combat, but you can have enough fun with it to comfortably finish the game in my experience if you play it like this.
>all the same shit as before
you just described 90% of all japanese games. generic anime-trope cast in a PSP-tier world is all you get from jrpgs now. Can still have fun though.
Except for Zestiria. Honestly fuck that game
High octane, vindictive /ss/ action.
one of the best jrpg stories in years
Might just be me but I find it ok, then again I only just finished the fortress after meeting Eizen.
>What am I in for and what should I expect
The cutest of boys made for protecting.
Combat is a fucking mess, there's a chance it could be fun if you want to get into it but then you get to the weaknessess, status combos (which are very fucking contrived) and pausing to change your moves every 5 fucking seconds and it just fucking blows.
To give you an example there's a character that punches people. All characters can only attack 4 times in a combo from a pool of moves you assign to the directional buttons, with a special move that allows you to extend it, but he can only use that move if an enemy has been knocked down, so you have to remember the moves and status combos that can knock things down, there's a stat that increases your chance of this happening if its higher than your enemies, good luck knowing when that is in effect or having any stat higher than a boss, you also can only use it if you have a special resource which is also dependent on a status effect and stat difference to gain consistently. You see were this is going, typical japanese counter-intuitive design, save yourself the trouble and put it on easy, the combat isnt worth your time.
And this reminded me that every character has a unique line for every move they have and they repeat it without fail EACH FUCKING TIME they use it.
It gets into your nerves so hard you start blocking it out before you can be bothered by it though.
arent you tired of making this thread?
been awhile since I played this game but play with a controller if you are on PC then go into party members/controls for party members where you set attacks on the face buttons.
Pick 'A' or 'X' and for all the character set it to Enemy weakness (it might be called Auto now that I think about it) Now just spam 'A' or 'X' in combat with whatever character and you will always do combo moves that the enemy is weak against. Also set it so the AI does the same and only uses the command bound to A or X to attack.
