Finished it few weeks ago. I really liked it, very comfy game. But dont forget to activate the "hard mode " . Its laughtable easy on normal, you wont lose a single fight.

I started the demo, but it fucking crashed after I left the starting village with the horse. Not a good start.

I started without any draconian quest stuff activated. Did I fuck up? What is generally recommended to turn on for a first playthrough?

When did you play it when it crashed? They put a patch out not that long ago.

If you don't want the game to be too easy and make it so you have to actually strategize and think things through turn on hard enemies

Asolutely, activate the harder Enemys. I started the game from scratch after 20hours because it was so easy, my 7 yo nephew could beat it

It happened around 30 minutes ago, although that save file was started a month or so ago when the demo first dropped, but I didn't get around to playing it now. Now I'm waiting for it to download again, but I'm contemplating restarting from the beginning and turn on some hard mode stuff because I don't feel like playing a braindead easy game.

Harder enemys is the only thing i would turn on. Its a bit of a challange, especially some of the bosses

I played it on the PS4 and the normal difficulty is definitely too easy. I almost died to a fucking slime when I turned on the harder enemies. Definitely makes a difference.

All right, I guess I'm restarting. Anything else that should be turned on aside from harder enemies? There were so many choices it was kind of overwhelming. Are the lying townspeople a good one?

I tried both at the same time (probably a mistake)

It was funny at first but it was way too frequent and lost it's charm after I got tired of losing turns for no reason. Plus one time it wouldn't let me save because it kicked it and I got too shy to talk to the priest which was funny but also pretty annoying.

I didn't bother with the demo. I will get the game on Friday. I am glad I resisted playing it on PS4 or PC, I felt the Switch version would get extra content and boy is it ever.

What should I play between now and Friday though? Super Metroid? Uncharted 4? ALTTP?

Yes you can jump into XI no problem. And it's the most basic of JRPG structure. You'd have to be braindead to do something wrong. DQ is a great starting point too. Hope you grab it and have fun user

Game would have been 10x better if it didnt try to pull a FF6. Nothing carries the story or gameplay past that point, it was already enough

DQXI is pretty easy if you don't turn on hard monsters. It's definitely long. The original version was already 100+ hours and this switch port is adding character story quests which could easily slap on a few more hours. It's an enormous world too with world building and everything, so I think you could get immersed.

Dunno about immersive, but it's a really easy light hearted JRPG if you don't turn on hard mode. You can try Ni no Kuni remaster that just released for something similar and if possible even more easy.

I named my character "Eridick" (I played some DQ games as a kid, was confused and thought that was the characters name) I did it as a joke, not realizing the save can transfer to the actual game. Should I start a new save or just keep playing it the way it is?

The "Glorious version" is the one we get in the west, so the only thing thats JP exclusive as far as I know are the audio dramas

So far the NPCS lying mode seems like a random trigger when you talk to any random NPC to tell a joke lie and a specific sound effect plays, the NPC then tells you he lied. It's nothing more serious than that so far.
If you talk to the NPC again it will give you the normal lines.
This addition honestly sounds a lot better on paper than how it was actually handled. It's more like the shypox thing, it's cute that the beginning but could be more annoying than anything later.

Will certainly continue my save file, demo gave me the blue balls after 12 hours.

It looks fine on Switch. Probably the best looking game on the console as of now.
