Name some games you like that you feel don't get enough credit, maybe talk a bit about them and what makes them good.
For me, its GUN. Classic western game with open world before RDR's time. Really nails the aesthetic and feel a western should have and has a good story to boot.
Hidden Gems don't exist. Any game worth playing is well known by enough people.
Robert Wood
Ape Out. It’s the only game where I can be a gorilla and beat the shit out of humans.
Jose Perry
for me its sfv. launch was so awful that it drove people away too much. the games current state + good netcode would have been the coolest release ever man.
Brody Bell
Slayaway Camp, it's this fun voxel-looking puzzle game where you control a slasher murdering teens in old 80s movies. The graphics look retarded, but the music that plays is god-tier horror ambience, it's actually really cool. And the puzzles are really well-made. I definitely recommend it to any fans of shitty 80s horror, puzzle games, or both.
Cameron Bailey
depends on how you define “enough people”.
Jordan Ward
>bro only play games retarded normies talk about No.
It's a fun RPG dungeon crawler where you can create multiple characters in a party with a really nice pixel-by-pixel character creator. You can make weapons and armor as well. It's kind of like 3D Dot Game Heroes if it was a 2D game done in SNES/Genesis RPG style.
Leo Gray
OHHHHH IM GONNA COOOOOOMMMM AGHHHHHH
Carson Sullivan
I just played Million Arthur Arcana Blood for the first time and that game is fun as fuck
Deserts of Kharak. A must-play for anyone that loves RTS campaigns.
Joseph Morgan
There's is a Harvest moon clone on steam but with more mature story elements, irs always posted here but i forgot the name does anyone knows?
Eli Baker
GUN was definitely awesome. Maybe not as """good""" as RDR, but a lot more fun.
Jacob Reyes
Clone Drone in the Danger Zone. The title is pretty bad but man this game really surprised me. The combat loop is really fun, the voxel physics are good, and the story mode of the game was surprisingly great, with tons of enemy variety and humor. You go through a series of fights starting with just a sword and unlock an upgrade for every fight you win, all the while the game ramps up in difficulty. It's early access so it's not quite feature-complete yet but it's still very playable. It also has steam workshop support (thousands of custom maps) and multiplayer modes. Overall really solid game I've never seen anyone mention. Check it out on sale sometime.
>Maybe not as """good""" as RDR, but a lot more fun. Nah, every time I play GUN I quickly ask myself why I'm playing poor mans RDR.
Zachary Gray
GUN is barely open-world. On that note, i'd recommend Red Dead Revolver. It has a memorable cast of characters, satisfying gunplay, badass story and huge amount of worthwhile unlockables. One of the best games on PS2.
Kevin Brown
RDR is objectively better, as it has everything GUN has but better and done with a higher budget + more. GUN is still good and was really good for its time.
Hudson Reed
DS version of Orcs and Elves. >Solid 8/10 >Directed by Carmack >Based in the Doom RPG engine. >Easily emulated using Drastic on a phone.
Still feels weird to think this was developed by EA. It's a platformer where you simultaneously must pay attention to bejeweled style puzzle screen on lower screen, and it all works perfectly. Also loved those "silly imperialism" aesthetics.
>This entire post Talk about having such shit taste that you think only games discussed by the masses are good. Go play Urban Chaos: Riot Response on PS2 you uncultured faggot. Also, Pic related
Why the fuck don't artists ever focus on grabbing the nipple? It's just kinda weird, that's the most sensitive part of the breast and yet most of the focus in most art is on the whole thing instead of that particular spot where it'd be realistic to pinch at.
Angels Fall First. Plays pretty much just like classic Battlefront 2 with some features inspired by the cancelled 3rd game. Only bad thing is online is completely dead but there's bots (good ones too) so it's not unplayable.
Carter Cook
It was hidden until it became known.
Levi Parker
Had to look it up, but I remember seeing the early videos for this game years ago and being really excited. Shame it absolutely died. The Spaceship to ground fighting would have been so cool.
Samuel Jenkins
this is the dumbest thing I've seen on Yea Forums all week. do you exclusively listen to shitty normie pop music that tops charts? I doubt it.
Jayden Murphy
Solium Infernum is a neat and little discussed strategy game. It's about power struggle and civil war in Hell, where player is an archfiend trying to claim the throne of Hell.
As downsides, it's boardgamey and stiff in many aspects, and maximized fun requires multiplayer to make diplomacy, deception and backstabbings that game allows really work.
It's not all bad. I don't know if you know about it, but when stuff for Battlefront 3 leaked, a team of devs were using the demo as a base to make an unofficial Battlefront 3, but it didn't last long since EA told them to fuck off. Now, they're developing their own game but with the same exact gameplay and principles and basically treating it like a Battlefront spiritual successor. Not only are they using Battlefront 2 and the cancelled threequel as a basis for the gameplay but they're also building on it with new features.
Anyway, tame is called Galaxy in Turmoil. Development is a bit slow so I'd wishlist it on steam and check up on it now and then if it interests you. If I recall, they said the multiplayer will be free while singleplayer will be around $20.
Noah Young
Is Dark Cloud a hidden gem when it's on every single Top PS2 list ever made?
Grayson Brown
not really underrated or hidden, more just forgotten
Aiden Reyes
There's 5 Wild ARM games yet I never hear anyone talk about them beyond the first. what went wrong
Soul Nomad, it's a srpg but you have choices through the game that will make a difference. You can choose male or female mc and build a party like Disgaea games. Story is about trying to defeat some giant creatures. The world is so fucked that you will meet a harem of mermaids with a small kid, some father raping her a daughter(probably demon path) and slavery. When you finish the game there is an option for Demon Path where things go wild and you can make everyone your slave or simple kill them and the story develops into a different path than the original playthrough.
>Any game worth playing is well known by enough people. most likely b8, but if I were to play nothing but assfaggots since its inception I would imagine that my IQ would be at a considerably lower level than what it is now.
Jeremiah Martinez
I can vouch for this game being fucking awesome, I bought it on a random whim from a bargain bin years ago and loved it. Great bosses.
its so weird to me because people usually go crazy for games with really good character creation
John Mitchell
BallisticNG if you know about this game it's probably from my shilling it's fucking amazing, only $8, and we host lobbies at least 2 times a week i'll be hostin gone tomorrow at 2pm PST so get in on it
Brink, release was horrid, but still loved and played the shit outta it, and had a really cool game premise.
Isaac Brooks
Redout is better, it actually brings something new to the table. BNG is just a nostalgiawank
Xavier Thomas
>ripoff "Spiritual successor" is the words you're looking for
Michael Young
wrong, ballisticNG is everything you loe about wipeout but also adds way more >new gamemodes >workshop >online multi >steam lobbies I could go on
Samuel Bell
West of Loathing KOL humor but without the daily grind. Game itself ins't particularly difficult but there's some neat puzzles and decent quest design.
Camden Myers
Samurai Western You play as a samurai fighting cowboys
>try talking about Star Control II within the last year >dumb faggots think I'm talking about Starcraft 2 because of the similar abbreviations Fucking zoomers.
Xavier James
I know it gets credit, but not enough. A fairly decent metroidvania fused with the best puzzle game you'll ever find on the market.
There is no objective definition to "enough". It is absolutely meaningless without some pre-defined term or to express some personal opinion
Adam Russell
gore ultimate soldier is the best multiplayer fps. Sadly it died. So I guess there is not much to talk about. And the gore ultimate soldier 2.0 version wasn't just as good.
I like Loki very much (Diablo2 like game). I don't remember how buggy it is. It had some bugs but it was playable as far as I remember.
And the original snydicate. That game has so good writing. The gameplay is good. The only stale thing about the game is the ending. Satellite Reign was fun too.
Shenzen i/o and infinifactory are also on top of my recommendation list. Shenzen I/O is simply a great game which teaches programming to people who got no clue how it works (it works, I tested it on victims). And infinifactory is such a fun game with such interesting story with nice twists and turns directly build into the game.
Blazing Chrome is fantastic, but I think everybody knows that by now. Neon Chrome is good too.
Bound by Flame feels pretty good as far as I played, but holy fuck is that game ruined BY UNSKIPPABLE FUCKING SHIT LONG CUT SCENES!!! FUCKING SHIT SOMEONE MOD ALL THE FUCKING SHIT CUTSCENES OUT OF THAT FUCKING GAME!!!!!
It's less like I don't think this game gets enough credit, because I don't think it's that good of a game, but I still feel like people are missing out on experiencing this game because it's so goddamn weird.
Far Cry 2. The game has a lot "flaws" around the open world design(it's quite experimental for its time) but the core shooting mechanics is solid. It still looks great, even better with sweetfx. It feels a little bit repetitive if you try to do everything in one go, but in short burst it's fun to play as a cold blooded mercenary in a war-torn nation fucking people's shit up.
Awesomenauts I guess it went pretty ok but still think it deserved more
Jayden Kelly
>Cool ship battles >Different themed islands to explore >A lot of unique enemy variety >Varied items to use in fights >simple yet fun controls >Looks great visually for a 2002 game >Semi-decent story >Great music >Likeable and fappable main character
I never see anyone talk about this game but its really good I would highly recommend. Made by the same guys who made Command and Conquer
Good pick. It's certainly repetitive but the minimalist hud and simple design makes the game super immersive. There's no quips, no zany missions, no out of this world characters and villains. Just a quiet, dirty, deadly Africa. Really makes you feel like a no morality merc in a political shit hole.
Indeed. Though it feels like an apocalypse now rip off, Jackal is a very interesting villain.
Hudson Rivera
God i love the way you can beat the shit out of enemies to the point they even come back as regular pieces and not enemie pieces
Camden Campbell
Game is fun as fuck but stealth games don't seem to be played really. Asassin's Creed doesn't fucking count
Sebastian Diaz
I liked the game, but that reveal at the end was kinda creepy desu
Thomas Gonzalez
drakaan and heavy metal 2 FAKK there is not much talk to about. But pretty good games
Christian Gutierrez
Not sure if it counts, but DFO was fun as hell back in the day. The mix of beatem and mmo was fun as hell.
Samuel Lewis
It feels like Invisible Inc. was left as that one overlooked Klei game, which is a shame. It was great and only expansion it ever got made it even better.
>Star Control II >underrated game Do you have any idea how huge that game was in it's day? Everyone fucking loved it. It was roundly considered one of the best games ever made. It wasn't underrated. Isn't there even a remake or something going on right now?
Levi Young
Still have my physical copy, fun shit.
Isaiah Sanders
ARRGG!!! WHY ISNT THIS ON PC? WHY DIDNT THEY MAKE A SEQUE:???? ITS THE BEST COP FPS OUT THERE!!!
I know this wasn't nearly good as its first title, which I'd also like to put into a hidden gem category, but I have such nice memories of this game that I have to include it. It was still incredibly fun and satisfying to get new iar-drops and to watch cities fall down, the co-op feature was amazing tons of fun, no one plays anymore, of course.
You play as a female version of Vergil in Bloody Palace, fun with interesting mechanics, good bosses, janky nad little unpolished but I had a really good time with it.
I bet it's somewhere out there, maybe someone saved it on mega. Speaking of which, is Manhunt 2's PC version still around, the super uncut one? I am in the minority who prefered Manhunt 2 over the first game.
yeah its still out there and there are quite a few mods for it that add in cut content and some other shit
Leo Sanchez
This is a favorite of mine too. I think it's the only WW2 game I've ever played where they don't shy away from some of the nasty shit that happened in that war. It makes sense that, given that, all they could really do with the atmosphere is make it almost a horror game.
I kind of get Hitman Contracts vibes off of it dark oppressive atmosphere. Which by the way, fits this thread too, easily the most overlooked Hitman game, for shame, it's one of the best from the franchise
Ring of Red, it's mecha TRPG so it's not for everyone, but it has really unique mechanics (you get directly involved in every battle you initiate and these are based around timing and actually understanding your mechs' abilities and ground troop synergies), also the setting is also pretty uncommon.
Shigatari, if you look it up, you'll see a meme trailer, but in fact it's a decent samurai roguelite with brutal and deep turn-based combat. It's also a passion project of some dude made in fucking RenPy, and if you ever coded anything in RenPy you can marvel at all the stuff he managed to pull.
Neon Chrome, it's a top-down shooter roguelite from Crimsonland devs (so there are also perks, weapon variety and stuff), might get a bit boring but I just like like when destructable environment combines with player setups that make you basically a danmaku boss spitting fire in every direction.
Maken Shao, I know it's a remake of somewhat famous Maken X but I won't mind a modern remake of Shao as well. You play as a sword that steals souls and bodies from people in a world that's going through several apocalypses, the story branches, art was done by Kazuma Kaneko, the game's really hard but rather fair.
Cooper Robinson
>no kenshi >no starsector >no unreal world >no cataclysm >no ss13 >dominions 4 not replaced with 5 it's shit
Josiah Nguyen
>over billions of obscure games >wait how come yo uanos aren't talking about these obscure games i like? come on dont be that autistic
James Rogers
over half the games on that list are hardly obscure
Carson Green
Then why would we talk about them
Easton Evans
>Underrated games >Hidden gems One of the two ITT
Ethan Bailey
i meant the one in the image idiot
like seriously who the fuck thinks eve online is obscure? or dwarf fortress for that matter, which is literally popular and known by virtue of being hard to get into
Doom and Destiny and Doom and Destiny advanced, these are parody JRPGs made by Italians using near RPG maker assets but they also manage to be fun because the gameplay is rather solid, almost every JRPG cliche gets made fun of and there are tons of secrets to uncover.

This thread reminds me I need to try out the pc onimusha that came out a bit ago. Not sure if it was underrated though.
Jace Lee
monster rancher series
Christian Scott
Arx Fatalis
Kevin Davis
gothic 2
Jacob Cox
MR Battle Card was kinda cool!
Also, Kagero/Tecmo's Deception/whatever the name they come up every next time. Games where you set traps in pinball/Rube Goldberg-lite configurations to kill people invading your lair, also the stories are always TOO full of edge to take seriously.
Easton Thomas
Then update it, lazy fuck.
Christopher Parker
Something about that soundtrack still haunts me. All that deep male Russian chorus I guess.
Andrew Garcia
