I don't pirate anymore because I've been buying games on sale under 10 bucks that I didn't even play so my backlog is way too long. New releases I'm interested in get in sale by the time I'm close to finishing my backlog so I'm always hoarding new games.

I pirate because while I'm not poor the money I would be spending on games would be better saved for the future. I do sometimes buy games I really, really enjoy after pirating them though, but it's not as often as I probably should be since they're usually indies.

Not at all. People who steal games probably weren't ever gonna buy them because games are a LUXURY not a NECESSITY. What actually hurts profits is making such a shit game that people with actual money don't wanna buy it.

Sometimes you don't have the money for a game. Sometimes you don't really know if you'll even like the game so it might not be worth the money. Sometimes you already know a game isn't worth you spending money but you still kinda want to fuck around in it. Sometimes you just don't give a fuck and you'd rather save money than spend it.
All of these are fine. Everyone has their reason or need.

There was an interesting case that happened with a dev that release their game DRM free and more than half the people who connected to their servers were from pirated copies.

The problem is that it enabled the current microtransaction model reason why we get less and less SP games anymore. I really hoped a lot for the episodic content model Valve was testing with half-life but now they make hats for dota.

Granted, a lot of the reason why gaming is what it is now does not concern piracy but the claim is a legit defense for the current, much more successful model of lootboxes. You got 3rd worlders that would not consider buying a game for pocket change, suddenly placing a $100 in emotes for shitty MP games. Even Yea Forums is a culprit.

I pirate because I've always pirated. Back in early 2000s downloading stuff with kazaa, emule or just direct dl was the only way to watch anime in my country. I also found lots of music that way and got to know new bands. It's just a habit at this point to see if something can be torrented, because buying stuff is a bigger hassle.

When there are devs that make some really good, well polished games that I get a wealth of enjoyment from I have no problem giving them money when I'm able to so that they might make more cool games. I'm biased when it comes to AAA devs though since I get more enjoyment out of Jap and indie games.

I pirate because I don't care. Music, movies, games, tv shows, anime, and porn. I'm not paying for something I can get for free, I'd rather save myself money rather than make rich people richer. If you don't like that, you can go fuck yourself bootlicker. The only time I pay for anything is when they actually need the money. For example I really like mom/son incest JAV so I pay for videos from ROCKET and other studios I like, as well as purchasing VNs.
