I really enjoyed DKC Tropical Freeze so I'm looking forward to this

incomparable.
They clearly tried to copy it
>bad 3d sandbox with really loose controls
>good 2d platformer with excellent control
incomparable.
But Impossible Lair isn't 3D? It copies Tropical Freeze
I'm one of the few big fans of the first YL. Kinda' irritated that they didn't try to make a better version of that game instead of making yet another 2D platformer that's so blatantly just copying DKCR and TF. Might buy on a sale.
it looks better than the first yooka laylee so yeah I'm buying it
september and october are fantastic for switch
I watched about 30 minutes worth of gameplay footage since I was looking forward to this game but it looks boring as fuck. They clearly tried to copy TF but they don't seem to understand what made TF design philosophy. The levels I saw looked boring with a lot open spaces and enemies scattered randomly. Killed my hype desu.
It’s like they want to just outright copy but they’re too afraid to be called a ripoff. Just remake DKC2 but slap Yooka-Laylee on it. Everyone would be happy.
my mistake.
>Kinda' irritated that they didn't try to make a better version of that game
This. I really wanted them to try again. Just make small fucking levels like the original banjo.
im looking forward for it
how did the game even got a sequel?
Looks like it'll be "fine", but given it's current hype it'll probably go on fire sale immediately so I'll wait for that. Or I'll just pirate it
My impression is "why is this game being made?"
I haven’t seen a single post about this game what’s so ever. I didn’t even know a sequel was coming out
I 100%'d the first yooka laylee before they patched it to make something easier (can't remember..) on steam
will buy impossible lair day 1, thanks for reminding me
It looks like a shitty attempt at Tropical Freeze
Something you'd see on the Xbox Live Arcade store
Isn't it a little early for a spin-off? You'd think they would do Tooka Laylee before a DKC style thing.
>Are you getting it, Yea Forums?
I really enjoyed Megaman so I'm looking forward to this
It looks like those 2D sections of the Mario Galaxy games.
>/thread
Y'all faggots don't remember this gem happening afterwards? Developers cannot be redeemed? Ok retard.
Here's a little summary about yooka laylee's development and release
>group out of nowhere claims to be Rare's comeback
>gets millions from people who loved Rare
>backers even pay for DLC before even knowing what is it
>game comes out
>it's terrible, literally the mighty no.9 of banjo
>levels are huge and empty, with all the segments far away from each other, there is no challenge or reason to collect, most enemies are the same minion reskined on every world, powers are very situational so you can't have fun using them, clunky controls, bad camera, etc
>turns out they're a bunch of literally whos with like 5 Rare veterans, which are artists/programmers
>level/gameplay designers are some amateurs who clearly don't understand what made banjo good
>people forget about the game
>dlc people already paid for is nowhere to be seen but people don't even care anymore
>now they try to rip off DKC
>people aren't getting scammed twice so the hype is null
Also I wouldn't be surprised if the sequel was the dlc but they decided to add 4 hours more to it to sell it as a new game
it's decent at best, not good enough to clean mighty's name
That was made by Initcreates you fucking retard.
Inticreates made Mighty No. 9.
Comcept is Idea Guy: The Company.
you can't expect better from the team that thinks that all it takes to make a banjo game is slapping googly eyes to everything and dropping random collectibles on a huge empty map
playtonic is incredibly superficial and clueless
Initcreates also worked on Mighty No 9 Retard.
>exploit nostalgia for big bucks
>wow it turns out it's just a unoriginal cheap imitation of banjo/megaman at best
when will people learn? honestly microsoft and capcom should just notice that there is demand for megaman and banjo and make new games. they need to get competent developers. it doesn't have to be the guy who cleaned rare's bathroom
It seems pretty neat, definitely a step up from the first game. I like how they're going the BoTW route where you can try the final area from the get-go. Speedruns of this game are going to be nuts.
The pagies in cagies XD see we're cool like Rare, please buy our game?
youtu.be
The first YL had so much potential. Really not interested in a DKC style game.
I found it really fishy when they announced David Wise and the guy who did Battletoads' music were on the team. They literally had nothing to do with the Banjo series and were just thrown in to pander to Rare nostalgia fags.
music is shit so far. Is it Kirkhope?
that's a fucking gunvolt game you retard. who cares if it has megaman ripoff dude in it. that's like praising capcom for tekken 7 being good because akuma is in it
That subtitle logo is so damn lame.
With that said, yes the game looks fun.
It's Wise, but he's phoning it in just like Kirkhope did with the first game
>I really liked this well made game so can't wait to buy this shitty knockoff.
No the devs don't deserve a second chance. fuck em.
HEY GUYS REMEMBER THE CLASSIC DK RAP. WE ARE NOT JUST SOULLESSLY RIPPING IT OFF. MAKE SURE TO TUNE IN FOR THE MINECART SECTIONS WHICH ARE JUST LIKE DKC!
>Comcept is Idea Guy: The Company
Nice try, but Comcept was heavily involved in development. Don't pretend Ninja Gaiden Z was entirely on Team Ninja.
Retard Recap
Ok retard?
>that logo
>this was a Kickstarter goal
>it isn't even in the actual game
>they just reuse in-game animations for the video when the DK Rap had unique dances
>it's twice as long as the DK Rap and instead of being cheesy it's just shit
I will give them a 2nd chance i guess
t. tron
youtube.com
this looks fucking boring
>guy literally says the level's difficulty comes from the enemies they just threw in there, not actual platforming
>attempt to revive the collectathon platformer
>turned into another 2.5D platformer
I'll pass. It's not that I'm unwilling to give Yooka-Laylee another chance with a sequel, but it needs to fix the mistakes of the first, not sidestep them entirely by outright changing the genre.
64-bit mode! yeeeeeeah youtube.com
>Matt Griffin
Who? Anyway, it's trying so hard to be Aquatic Ambience. Wise himself already did that better in another game.
youtube.com
>MEMBER DONKEY KONG COUNTRY
I get that it's trying to be like Aquatic Ambience but that percussion is just way too harsh
Perfect example of why you can't just recreate "so bad it's good" art while wanting it to be so bad it's good. DK Rap was cheesy and pretty lame, but it had heart because the devs were trying to make it legitimately enjoyable. This captures none of the charm because it's trying specifically not to be good, and so it isn't.
>Mining Melancholy but even more repetitive
Is Wise also working on something else? When Kirkhope half-assed Yooka-Laylee's soundtrack he went all out with Mario+Rabbids.
>it isn't even in the actual game
Really? It's just a youtube video?
Yup. Not the intro, not in the credits, not an unlockable.
Yeah you’re right, that percussion is too strong for a piece like this. Lower the volume in the mix and it might be good
This really should have skipped from 1:30 to the pagies part
this game looks like a chore to play, if you said it's some kid's little big planet level no one would doubt it
I see the swimming is jank in a different way for this game.
>"one option is to git gud"
okay please.
>Are you getting it, Yea Forums?
I really enjoyed MGS so I'm looking forward to this
>it's decent at best
It's better than a good chunk of actual mega man games, especially Classic.
>they're trying to push speedrunning for this game
>but the overworld is a slower-paced, puzzle heavy top-down thing
don't forget how the publishers, Team17, mocked and banned people who asked for kickstarter refunds on the forums.
and don't forget to jump around in the same place for 10 seconds to catch all the falling feathers required to access further areas, it's so fun yay
If you're trying to speed run it you only need to play one level.

This leaves us 18 Rare employees and 6 Non-Rare devs.
Jon is such a nice guy. He would give them a second chance. But I wont.
why was the game shit then?
>kinect sports
>viva piñata
>nuts n volts
TECHNICALLY yes, they are Rare developers, but the shitty post Xbox Rare so if anything that just gives them a bad image
>killer instinct
>donkey kong country
>banjo-tooie
>and many more
It wasn't.
Besides, those were genuinely good games.
They're not literally whos, the problem is that a lot of them didn't work on Banjo Kazooie
You've got people who worked on Perfect Dark, Viva Pinata, Nuts & Bolts (as background designers), DKC (artists), and even Ghoulies
They don't actually sell despite the "demand"
too many women in the team
>the roll is slow, can be cancelled by moving in the opposite direction, is a constant speed, and doesn't carry your momentum
I know Tropical Freeze's roll was different from the original trilogy but even that one sped you up and carried over your momentum when you jumped out of it.
Please don't insult DKC:TF by comparing it to this trash.
wow I feel so much better about yooka laylee now that I know the people behind banjo nuts and bolts made it, and also invited some leftover code monkeys and coffee boys from real Rare games
why? you will probably never see another DKC from retro studios and this is decent DK filler
>>levels are huge and empty, with all the segments far away from each other,
No.
>>there is no challenge or reason to collect,
So like in the Banjo games? If you don't like collectathons then don't play collectathons.
>>most enemies are the same minion reskined on every world
Tooie also suffered greatly from this.
>>powers are very situational so you can't have fun using them, bad camera, etc
Banjo games also had this.
>>clunky controls,
What the fuck are you talking about? Yooka is way more acrobatic than Banjo ever was.
>>it's terrible, literally the mighty no.9 of banjo
I'm convinced you don't like collectathons.
>>level/gameplay designers are some amateurs who clearly don't understand what made banjo good
Yooka's levels are more like Kazooie's than Tooie's ever were.
All of the areas in the map are interconnected, instead of most being separated via doors like in Tooie. This makes exploration way less frustrating.
>>dlc people already paid for is nowhere to be seen but people don't even care anymore
It's still coming. Why don't you fags ever complain that UNDERTALE didn't deliver on its stretch goals? Sure seems like people are biased against YK.
>>now they try to rip off DKC
Please bother to read some interviews. They've said they aren't trying to be DKC.
>>Also I wouldn't be surprised if the sequel was the dlc but they decided to add 4 hours more to it to sell it as a new game
Why would YL get 2D DLC instead of new levels? Are you genuinely retarded?
Nuts and Bolts was good, jontronny. Dilate.
good news, this is more YL just in 2D form, they expanded the concepts from the first game
this is going to be ghreat
I wanted a comfy 3d platformer like Banjo Kazooie, not Donkey Kong Country.
just as good tho I agree
Capcom tried with Megaman 11 though
As long as the physics aren't garbage and actually works then yeah, i am excited.
I enjoyed the world and characters of the first game, this looks promising.
Surprised to see people on Yea Forums that actually enjoyed the game. I’m one of them, sure the game was rather buggy upon launch and certainly had its flaws. But I personally enjoyed it, it was a fun collectathon romp by the people (not the company) behind Banjo Kazooie.
this is the definition of a campy or comfy game
Yeah, looks fun and has some interesting gimmicks like the Impossible Lair thing so you can beat the game right away if you're gud enuff.
Looks like mobile shovelware
yeah and clearly TF is miles better
soul vs soulless
get the fuck outta here
That's because Playtonic only consists of like 3 people (excepting the musicians) who actually worked on the Banjo games: Chris Sutherland, Steve Mayles and Damien Sparks, and none of those are game designers.
>No.
Yes.
Thanks doc
It's more like this
Yooka-Laylee was trying to capture the feeling of games like Banjo & Kazooie but instead they just ended up recreating the feeling of games like Glover and Gex. No that's not a compliment
>the impossible lair is five times longer than every other level
>and no checkpoints
what the flying fuck
>try to make a 3d platformer with less time and team members than they needed
>compensate by making a 2d platformer next with with more time and team members than they needed
maybe third time will be the charm and they'll make a good 3d platformer?
... why is there a gif of yooka dabbing in this video
Beating other levels in the game makes the Impossible Lair easier. It's not supposed to be even remotely fair at first. That's the entire gimmick, the lair is the final level.
more like yooka-GAYlee hahaha guise amirite?!?!?
>Same savepoint takes a pic of you every time you pass through instead of only once, even if you're standing still and make a single step
I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it's just unfinished
But anyways it doesn't even look as terrible as i thought, but it seems pretty slow and boring. It might be bias but it seems everything related to YL is just bound to be lame
I want to ____ laylee!
bump
I'm pretty certain they mentioned YL2 will still be a thing. This is more of a inbetween spin-off
>Viva Pinata
>shitty
I'm going to have to disagree, from that pic alone I like YL's aesthetic more. However, where Tropical Freeze really shined is that every stage was dynamic, transforming constantly while having clever platforming. The games not out but none of the levels so far really have that, they're pretty static in comparison.
Playtonic is what the old Rare is now.
Good, Retro studios doesn't even knew what an actual DK Country is.
I didn't even realize that there were two games being compared there for a few moments when I first saw that pic. YL is bordering on plagiarism with that art style.
/THREAD
What was your problem with Retro's Donkey Kong?
Yeah.
YL didn't live up to the hype at all, but the game was still good.
seriously so many people on Yea Forums are dumb af
viva pinata is good and so is nuts & bolts
Concept had nothing to do with the creation of this game. INTI Create just asked permission to use their characters.
Just now I realized this existed, wasn't going to buy it anyway but what's with the blatant soulless attempt at making TF?
>YL is bordering on plagiarism with that art style.
Not really, the only thing similar is the ice in the first pics.
No lol
>I like YL's aesthetic more
Why?
>that's a fucking gunvolt game you retard.
It's literally Classic Megaman in all but name, it plays nothing like Gunvolt.
It just looks a bit more refined when it comes to the backgrounds. Like, compare the second set of pics. TF has thsee weird rock formations that have a grimy, artifical feel to them, while YL's has a neat little valley in the sunset. But like I said, TF more than makes up for the artificial feeling by having more stuff going on.
