Why is this STILL the best Sonic game ever made?

Why is this STILL the best Sonic game ever made?

I mean, come on, it should have been surpassed by now. But it hasn't!

It's the best 3D Sonic but far from the best Sonic.

Generations have better level design and gameplay.

I only played Adventure 1, is 2 really worth it?

No

Bat tats.

The running/speed mechanics are the most enjoyable out of any 3d sonic. Rest of the game has aged horribly though

Yes

>the best Sonic game ever made

>Why is this STILL the best Sonic game ever made?

It's not even better than "Sonic Adventure", and that's a low fucking bar

2D sonic is boring and shit.

Even the worst 2D Sonic game is better than the best 3D Sonic game.

>being this much of a pleb
An hero yourself user

I can’t even keep my eyes open when playing a 2d sonic game. How the hell do you guys not get bored with such shitty gameplay?

Zoomer detected. Bet you call lives archaic

It has the best first level of all time. it's too high a standard

Go ruin another economy, boom boom.

Not with those boostshit mechanics it isn't

>sonic on rails
Yea no, Nostalgia fags should be gassed.

It's like how stupid people get bored with the greatest books, same deal.

Find a flaw.
youtube.com/watch?v=5WcyVvWZJU4

For a long time, I would've said no, but as someone who played Adventure 2 recently, yeah.
It has the best Sonic gameplay of any 3D game, but the rest is a straight up downgrade.

You shouldn't conflate boomers (the internet meme) with baby boomers (the demographic). One is one full generation older than the other.

>the best Sonic gameplay of any 3D game

Attached: Sonic - Lost World.webm (640x360, 2.39M)

1 is better outside of the Sonic levels and much more faithful to the older games (though still not as faithful as it should have been).

CAN YOU FEEEEEEL LIFE MOVING THROUGH YOUR MIND

Attached: .gif (200x199, 442K)

Is this where you try and convince me that the Scarlet Letter was not a horrendously shit and boring book?

Yes, you read me right and you quoted me correctly. What's your point?

No, I am just explaining to you that the fact you find something so widely acclaimed boring is likely because you are an idiot rather than you being right and everyone else wrong.

Don't reply to me again.

Both have shit taste.

Scarlet Letter is widely acclaimed and considered a classic, but I fucking dare you to read it and not find it dull as fuck

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LOOKS LIKE IT CAME BACK FOR MORE

Generations isn't as great as people hype it up to be. I would go as far as to say that it's boost levels are worse than the ones in Sonic Unleashed

Attached: tailsThink.png (730x507, 482K)

Pretty sure anyone who graduated highschool has read Scarlet Letter.

CAN YOU FEEEL TIME SLIPPING DOWN YOUR SPINE

Nope

1984
Othello
Lord of the flies
Midsummer nights
Of mice and men

Never read scarlet letter

Forgot animal farm

Read all of these.

Didn't read this one.

I had it for my English Class, and even though it was required I couldn’t bring myself to read that awful book. I just read the sparknotes online afterward, and I found Great Expectations decent enough to read. Some “classics” are just shit.

that's the problem with classics, they're made to be boring because for some reason books are the one medium where there seems to be this weird pretentious "i'm better than you because I pretended to like this boring shit" barrier that gets encouraged as "higher thinking".
some classics are classics because they were popular, some smart, but the ones you read in school are important because people who want you to think they're smart trudged through them and so you have to, too. they don't say anything relevant, they weren't liked when they came out, but now you have to read it

Not even close, user.

Ow that it’s all agreed that just because some things are classics doesn’t mean they’re good, now let’s all agree that 2d sonic is boring and shit.

>Lost World

LET'S TAKE A DIVE

IN AQUATIC MINE

Smash mouth tier rock.
It's a single rectangular corridor peppered with boost pads and minimal platforming (like the lion's share of speed levels) exactly like boostshit but gamecube babies will pretend its any different because they played it as a child.

>Smash mouth tier rock.
Is this supposed to be a bad thing? Smash Mouth were kino.

>gameplay

No. It had the best gameplay of the boost era, not 3d. Sonic still felt clunky and heavy in the 3d sections when not boosting. Adventure Sonic feel more satisfying and on point to control

Level design was hit or miss in Generations. Really liked how Seaside Hill was designed with alternative paths and more open areas, but other levels could feel pretty linear with 2 alternative roads for constant boostan

Unleashed felt more spectacular, boosting felt faster and stages were longer but never boring.
Generations also had that problem of too many 2.5D sections, while on Unleashed they were short

>pretending you don’t unironically love Smash Mouth

Weird pic of Sonic Mania Plus you got there

Let's not get ahead of ourselves now

Attached: 1567909406592.gif (500x375, 2.39M)

Because Sega keeps shilling new idea that never works. Hell, if they use Adventure gameplay for the next sonic game, then the hacks at Sonic Team will fuck it up like they did with Forces by forcing in a BS gimmick.
Its why I like Sonic Mania a lot because Sonic Team didn't do jack shit with the game
>inb4 classicfag
I'm an Adventurefag BTW

>if they use Adventure gameplay for the next sonic game
They already tried this.

Attached: Sonic Adventure 3.png (469x368, 413K)

>Bet you call lives archaic
They are archaic when most modern games with lives only punish the player by throwing them back at the title screen instead of actually taking away some of the player's progress. I don't think Sonic Mania had this issue, though.

Well, use it in a way that doesn't suck ass then

You would have an actual point if the entire game played like that, and didn't need to rely on posting that one webm over and over again.

I wouldn't count Heroes and Shadow because they specifically changed the gameplay to try and appeal to a Nintendo audience that might not like Adventure gameplay. In my mind that disqualifies them from being Adventure 3. Sonic 06 is the closest that would qualify as Adventure 3 because for that they actually tried making it similar to Adventure.

Pretty hilarious how the sonic and shadow sections are the only good part and its still the best sonic game
Kart racing is based though

>hit or miss
I guess they never miss huh?
But seriously, it's not like all the speed levels in Adventure 2 were perfect.

unless you literally mean "on rails," shut up

The fake answer you want to hear: Because SEGA is incompetent.

The real answer you don't want to hear: Because Sonic is an inherently flawed concept that is highly unfit for modern 3D gaming, the speed gimmick was manageable in 2D when the game gave you plenty of cues of what was ahead of you, but all it has ever done in 3D games is force the developers to make linear levels and implement lots of invisible handholding so the game doesn't feel unfair due to how hard it is to control something that goes so fast and how impossible it is to predict the coming obstacles with reliability; want a better 3D Sonic game? Slow him the fuck down, like it or not the reason Sonic games have always been impossible to do well in 3D is because both the dev team and the fandom keep insisting on this one mechanic that hinders the experience.

Not perfect, but despite the more linear levels(except Final Rush) the stages were more memorable overall than Generations to me.
I enjoyed more controlling Sonic there and the trick point system really compensate those flaws and made things better on that game, especially to replay them, when Generations I really never the drive to go back and replay it.

Between both Adventures, I always prefered how open SA1 stages was. A stage like Red Mountain is a very good example of that

I can't fucking believe there are adults who still bitch about sonic in 2019. It's like wrestling, you were supposed to stop caring when you turned 12

>I can't fucking believe there are adults who still bitch about sonic in 2019.

Attached: 354z1o.jpg (243x310, 25K)

>the book meme

Strangely, it was surpassed. In 1998.
By it's prequel.

>>because they specifically changed the gameplay to try and appeal to a Nintendo audience that might not like Adventure gameplay
But the Nintendo audience love Adventure 2 Battle (pretty sure it is one of the best selling Sonic games). What were they thinking?

they never forced me to read that tripe

>What were they thinking?
They weren't thinking at all, which is why they fucked up so hard. They were thinking the same exact thing when they were making Sonic Boom and Sonic Lost World.

ONCE WAS A COAL PIT BUT NOW ITS A WATER RIDE

I love Adventure 1 but really dislike Adventure 2. The only good level is City Escape and maybe a couple of the other Sonic levels, the rest of the game sucks complete ass especially the Tails/Eggman levels. The treasure hunting stages are only redeemed by the Knuckles raps.

Meanwhile in SA1, pretty much every level is great and each character brings a new way to play and go through it. Hell, I even like the fishing levels they're comfy.

Sonic Adventure 1 earns the Adventure name, 2 is just a bunch of disjointed levels that over half of aren't worth playing.

Attached: 1569020907409.jpg (352x315, 41K)

It's the best 3D Sonic game but the 2D games are so much better.

Attached: EBJpbV_XoAI2ojf.jpg (717x1024, 59K)

>2d
>better
literal snooze fests with boring backgrounds and boring music. There's a reason Mania has Artifact player count numbers.

Attached: 1534221558938.gif (400x480, 1.11M)

>muh mania
Not even gonna start with this erafagging nonsense.

Attached: 1568782690661.gif (312x390, 1.87M)

>all it has ever done in 3D games is force the developers to make linear levels and implement lots of invisible handholding so the game doesn't feel unfair due to how hard it is to control something that goes so fast and how impossible it is to predict the coming obstacles with reliability
So it's because SEGA is incompetent? We don't need to look exclusively at the Sonic games to figure that one out.

Wanna compare the other 2d sonic games?

I just never thought they were "boring snoozefests". And this is coming from an Adventure fan myself.

Attached: 1512872923027.webm (466x346, 2.19M)

Well to me they are. Basically static backgrounds and lack of recognizable landmarks to tell where you are. One platform looks exactly like another and it makes it feel like on area of one act is exactly like another.

Heroes and Shadow released on all consoles you trog

That's honestly fine, user. It's called differing opinions, everyone has them. I'm not gonna make you like or hate anything,If you don't, you don't. It just sounded like you were trying to shut out anyone who liked 2D more, that's not very welcoming, that's all.
And to that other user's credit, he was still calling Adventure one of the best.

Attached: tumblr_inline_p4mc9dKyhR1seto0f_400.gif (400x480, 2.11M)

I played Adventure 1 my whole life and it’s overall a better game, but Adventure 1 is way more ambitious and I like the speed stages in that game more
I thought this too when I played it for the first time. It definitely is more focused than SA1.

I honestly can't believe that Sonic Adventure 2 even though it's so fucking old is still pulling in more regular numbers than Forces or Generations. That's impressive.

Attached: 1544582906434.jpg (384x309, 39K)

They did, but they specifically wanted to appeal to a Nintendo fanbase.

>Adventure 2 thread
>Devolves into everyone calling the classics/SA1/SA2 shit
Can’t we just all agree that the 2D and Adventure games are all great games? Sure they’re different, but they’ve obviously have had a huge impact in gaming. They’re all classics, stop starting these rivalries with good games.

Attached: F1B9BD5D-E8AD-4492-B73C-AB887035EA39.png (576x1024, 557K)

Well yeah, I obviously think so.
but sonic threads are also prone to arguments over trivial things, guess it wouldn't be the sonic fanbase without it.

Mania's active playerbase is 2nd to SA2 on Steam, which isn't much higher.

>Sonic Adventure: sure dude it was maybe somewhat decent at the time but by modern standards it's fucking garbage and thus a terrible game
>Mario 64: Dude wtf you can't hold it to modern standards you have to judge it as it was when it initially released

Attached: 1568757858693.jpg (242x209, 6K)

Except SM64 is still one of the best 3D platformers. The only thing that's really aged is the camera.
Coming from a Sonicfag.

Sunshine and Odyssey shit all over 64's Mario control.
In 64, Mario is a slippery piece of shit that you just can't use in small platforms. He turns like boost Sonic when moving slowly.

Sunshine is basically a more fluid 64 so it definitely has that over 64.
