I think the general consensus is if its a game that stars a female protag (Control, RE games, Tomb Raider) it is perfectly acceptable to play them, but generally for create a character you stick to your own gender.

Take a look at all the actual trannies playing video games. They always play male characters. Their fantasies always involve male characters, a good example of that would be 9S, or more recently, Cloud.
If literal trannies play male characters, then playing as a girl when you're a male is the straight choice. Playing a male either means you're gay, either consciously or subconsciously.

This webm actually showcases one of my biggest problems with REmake 2, and it's how you don't actually move as fast as the character's animation would have you believe. You can see her feet, when she plants her foot down to step forward while running, it doesn't stay where she plants it as she steps forward and it slides along the ground.
I'm sure it was done to "balance" the game, but it looks really bad and unpolished. They should have updated the animations to reflect the actual speed you move.

If the game has a male and female protag, whatever, I'll probably end up playing the girl just to see if there is any differences.
If the game has a customizable character, the only way I'm playing as a female character is if I make a fap character who only exists to sate my boner. Otherwise, I'm customizing a male to play for serious.
