Looking back, there were very few stages in XX that were unique to a single character. Sol and Ky shared one, Jam and Johnny shared one, the Assassins, Baiken and Anji, Faust and Zappa, Testament and Dizzy, and I think there's more. I don't know why it never bothered me before.

It's harder to tell a fighting game story when your protagonist is a shut-in that gets along with everyone and doesn't like violence.

Overture is weird because not a single person played it and yet Xrd still ended up being tied heavily to it. Usually they would just ignore such a game but nope.

It's understandable, really. The whole strategy thing sticks out like a sore thumb among the GG legacy, and the game overall has a painful learning curve. But from plot perspective, it serves as the biggest turning point in the whole timeline AND, as you noted, kicks off a whole load of plot points further explored in Xrd!

They had to make everyone wider because they wanted the same amount of space between the characters and the edge of the screen that they had in XX, but because Xrd has a wider aspect ratio that meant the characters had to be wider too to maintain the spacing XX had.
