Why has Steam not been called out more for the incredible bias in its review system?

Why has Steam not been called out more for the incredible bias in its review system?
Take this game for instance

store.steampowered.com/app/873940/Crying_Suns/

If you sort by 'most helpful' then it stacks up positive reviews of a lesser rating above negative reviews. It's all a scam to try and make games seem better than they are.

>Company that stands to gain money by selling games attempts to make games look good so you will buy them

STOP
THE
FUCKING
PRESSES

yeah no shit cunt, but companies usually get called out for obvious & underhand methods

>lesser rating
it literally just says how many people found it helpful and/or funny, it says nothing about how many found it not helpful

Welcome to the gaming industry. It's been shit since 2007. Nice to see a new arrival to this interactive entertainment dystopia

If Steam reviews really influence your buying decisions–outside of reviews that mention actual technical issues–then sadly I have to inform you that you, my good user, are fucking braindead.

ah so now we have to trust that things are ordered this way because of an invisible number

Yeah why would I want to listen to any opinion other than my own? I'm a literal God king and anyone else's view is useless

It has to work like that because of retards being LE EPIC PHUNNYMAN so reviews rated as funny are devalued.

>My own knowledge is not enough. I must delve headfirst into the opinions of a congregation of third worlders and absolute retards to decide if this product is worth purchasing.
Use your brain, user.

Some of my favorite games in the past few years like Pathfinder were rated Mostly Positive by Steam's system because of the buggy launch. You just have to identify why the games are getting negative reviews and decide if that affects you personally.

given your obvious wisdom & intelligence you must be aware of an infallible source of opinions, share with the class?

>source of opinions
Your own brain? Of course it's required to actually be functioning, which yours does not appear to be.

Sometimes I can't tell if all the positive reviews for a game are fake, or if they're made by fags who can't cope with having been fooled into buying a pile of shit so they pretend they liked it. Like Children of Morta. What a crappy game. Such promise, too.

this
half the time something gets review bombed these days is because they pissed off the horde of chink bugmen
seriously those fuckers will tank the average by 50% at least if you have bad chinese language support or something that offends/"""subverts""" their government

I envy your powers of being able to accurately review a game you've never played

for

that's why recent reviews exist, not that this seems to have helped Pathfinder any

It's not very difficult. Maybe you should play more games. There is also a two-hour refund window that can be used to your advantage.

Did you even read what I posted faggot? I said to read WHY they're reviewing it negatively, not just the score, and weigh how much that reason affects you.

What are some times that billion dollar industry leading corporations were "called out" and what revisions followed on from that happening?

The game is legitimately too hard and archaic for casuals even with all the bugs fixed.

I've noticed a highly rated negative review will be pushed down in less then a week while a positive one will float at the top for a month. Steam has a financial incentive to sell you games even if their shit and subtly tweaking the time certain reviews stay at the top is one way to do it. I'm not saying it's right, because it's bullshit, but that's probably what's happening.

EA apologizing for Lootboxes
Borderlands team revising their entire comedy scheme after Anita tweeted about sexist remarks
Capcom's hyper-sexualization of men and women after being called out on androgyny and sexless heroes

Game has 89% positive reviews

There are 20 reviews on its main page, 2 of which are negative

It's actually balanced, you're biased against it

Attached: 1558381970026.gif (200x200, 1.34M)

really makes me think

Attached: think.png (410x218, 18K)

If a hypothetical game has 90 positive reviews each with a helpful score of 1 and 10 negative reviews each with a helpful score of 100, what's the positive percentage?

He's probably just parroting old reviews, or that was from August of 2018, the game is in a very stable place now and has been for months. It was a fucking nightmare at launch though and the negative reviews were well earned.

what's the difference? if they want to manipulate results they can change visible numbers as easily as they can invisible ones

*dead silence*

there's at least some hope of catching out changes in visible numbers, visibility is important

It's actually because the negative review hits the 5 threshold for funny review for it to get deranked. OPs just a fucking retard and having a sped fit because he doesn't feel like taking 12 seconds to read a review or and this is equally possible he's an EGS shill.
Either way this thread's straight up retarded and he's pitching a fit over a 4 vote discrepancy potentially being misrated.

Yeah because its a retarded post, EA apologised for loot boxes then crammed so many loot boxes and micro transactions into every game since then that there had to be legislation passed to deal with it.

Borderlands comedy sucks and capcom changing a few skins had zero impact on their financial gains whatsoever, it's a retarded post and draws absolutely zero parallels with valve promoting positive reviews over negative ones to incentivize buying of mediocre products.

Of course, you drew me into responding to your retarded garbage anyway so points to you I guess.

>valve promoting positive reviews over negative ones to incentivize buying of mediocre products.
and there's the fucking throw.

What? I never said that valve weren't doing that you moron, only that nothing of that sort ever gets changed by getting "called out".

Go start a change.org petition about it and see how much change you affect sonny jim, (hint; it will be fucking none). You're so stupid its astounding.

They want to sell the game to you so of course they'll give positive review more air time over the negative ones.

If you were a reasonable customer then you'll be smart enough to check the negative reviews as well.

I always check the negative first.
>Is is bad because it doesn't work?
Pass
>Is it bad because it's difficult?
read more negative reviews
>is it bad because of gameplay/story
Switch to positive reviews for counterpoints.
