They're good for characters who wouldn't even appear otherwise like Waluigi, Ashley, Skull kid, Midna, and many many more

I like Assist Trophies. They give characters who didn't make the playable roster a chance to shine, and there's always the possibility that assist trophy characters get promoted. We've seen it happen thrice now.

Typical entitled virgin, mad a video game company didn't devote literal eons to converting every single character across all of their franchises, dead or not, into their precious party fighter.

The developers knew that these characters weren't going to be playable this time around, so they gave them this assist role to give them a chance to shine.

Let's look at Bomberman. I guarantee that the thought process here was:

My most wanted is Wonder Red, who is the star of Wonderful 101 (the 101 also referring to the number of copies sold). He is pretty much never going to be playable ever, so I would have been alright with him being an assist.

Let's be real, all of the promoted assist trophies would still be playable if they weren't assist trophies in the first place

In rare cases you got trophies for Expresso, Squacks and Squitter too for Brawl/Four. Paon really loved DKC that much. On assist trophies, they're flawed. Only core fans will know Barbara, Sukapon and Takamaru. Those same people back then have wanted the middle and latter playable. Why would the core fans look forward to a mere cameo vs. being fully playable? And don't give me that ungrateful/entitled shit, the core fans are what make up the majority of the userbase, the casuals don't give a fuck about assists, never mind the people who don't play with items. Settling for less doesn't make you the better person and talking down to people who don't accept the consolation prize especially makes you more of a tool.

there should have been a mode for assists that's like mvc1 with limited use assists and balanced assists at that, whether it's by nerfing effectiveness/proximity or by nerfing the amount of times it could be called per match and having a special button for calling them out
that way, assists can still feel like part of a competitive battle too

Assist trophies like Pong are cool as shit. The problem is assist trophies should not be characters but shit that absolutely just can't be a character no matter how hard Sakurai tried. Thus Tetris as a whole should be an assist trophy with the newcomer L block

Again, an assist trophy means you're not going to be playable. Not being an assist gives you a CHANCE to be playable with DLC. It's not guaranteed, but it's a small chance. If that is the case, tell that to the people who are asking for their characters to appear in the upcoming DLC the same thing then.

The puppet body is just an unremarkable vessel that hides away the true form of the being inside. Geno isn't even it's real name, but the name of the puppet.
They probably wanted to go for the comparison between Sheik and Geno both being combat focused forms taken on by much more powerful magic users to hide conceal what they actually look like and given them better autonomy in the world they inhabit, and Geno needed arms and legs and such, while Zelda just flat out needed to hide from Ganondorf.

No, it's reminiscent of MvC 1, where having certain characters that were unable to be fighters actually help out and be "used". Plus, it allows other series or characters to be recognized and honored in a fashion that's somewhat accurate.
I just wish DLC packs at least came with another AT, so they don't feel the need to shove all the characters into the stage or spirit list.

Too many people think that Assists are "pretty much full fighters", when they probably aren't even 10% of the way there. The average assist has, at most, 3 attacks. The average fighter has 20+.

Let's look at Sukapon, who has animations for:
>throwing head
>grab
>cartwheel
>taking damage
>despawning
He's only missing well over a hundred animations for 20+ attacks, taunts, victories, being hit by different attacks, using different items, being grabbed, being grabbed by Snake, ladders, swimming, and many others I'm forgetting.

The models are also way lower quality. Waluigi, as you can see here, doesn't even have fingers modeled. We also have to spend months bug testing and balancing them to make sure they function right as playable fighters.

Do people get any satisfaction from having assist trophies and pokemon do the work for them? Item babies are the absolute worst.

My most wanted character in Ultimate. People don’t understand that to fans of certain characters, if they get added as assists, is not a benefit. It is like leaving something or someone you want just out of arms reach, saying “close but no cigar”. If you want to make a comparison, it would be like being the kid who gets picked last or near last for the team during gym class.
On a more serious note, assist trophies are just the guys who while very popular, are kind of neglected by the development team. “You aren’t really important enough to warrant your own character, how about a an interactive prop no one but children (who interact with them be pure chance) may occasionally interact with.

They're really not. Both players playing casually doesn't make losing because a good item spawned on top of the other guy fun. It doesn't make having to spend a minute dodging around because the other guy got something that makes it impossible to attack him fun.

Look at it this way. Let's say you and a buddy are playing a casual basketball game, 1 on 1. Let's say Michael Jordan shows up and goes "Alright, I'm gonna play on your friend's team for 30 seconds". Obviously you get your ass kicked but still, that's cool as hell, it's Jordan. But it's less cool if you play every day and an NBA player shows up to kick your ass every day. Even if they join your team randomly sometimes, It starts feeling like bullshit that every game is decided by who gets the better NBA player. So in order to win, you spend your time trying to get the better players to join your team instead of actually playing basketball yourself. In the end, you and your friend don't actually really play bssketball anymore, you just spend the whole game trying to wave Larry Bird and Charles Barkley over to your side so they can play basketball for you. And yeah, it might be cool to see all these famous players, but the novelty wears off, and eventually you decide you'd rather actually play basketball yourself. So the next time Jordan shows up, you tell him you'd rather keep it 1 on 1. Does that make you a try hard? Does that make you the fun police? I don't think so.
