I played the game with a friend for a couple hours last night, we hit around level 14 and I gotta say I hope the combos improve as we level up. So far the game doesn't seem very combo friendly all our moves have so much end lag.

A dev from Wayforward was shown Kunio-tachi no Banka and wanted to make a game based on that but with the female characters as the leads while taking cues from River City Ransom (like the map system, stats from eating, learning moves, etc since Kunio-tachi no Banka was just a straightforward beat em up with none of that).

Scott Pilgrim did the stat and shop system way better than RCG

A wayforward dev played one of the Kunio games for 10 minutes and pitched a game to ArcSys. And since the dude doesn't know anything about beat em ups or the franchise they're working on, it does a bad job at representing both.

I don't get why eveyone have so many problems with spider girl boss. She also frustrated me for a while but once I realised what I need to do with her needle it became an easy win. It took some time but first two bosses were played pretty straight - just ounch them until they dies, spider girl at least have a special gimmick.

The fight is just super tedious if you do it they way the game intends for you to do it and that's why people hate it.

The game gives you the option to attack her with her own needle, but she literally hovers across the top the screen and goes near both walls. If wall jumping didn't come into your mind during the fight, then that's on you.

The wall jump mechanic literally exists for that fight. You'll hardly use it anywhere else besides getting to statues and cats.

I liked Kyoko. If my ears don't lie, she has the same VA as Tiffany from Huniepop.

She flies to the sides for a reason. You can knock her down if you hit her enough times while she's flying. Yeah, the fight's possible without using wall jumps but there's no reason not to.

I hate hearing 248 different generic valley girl voices reading every line in the same "sassy bored" tone.

I do, but to get her down "manually" requires alot of luck (so you can whack her as she approaches wall both of you randomly chose), or alot of risking getting bullet in your face (if you make mistake and has to chase after her). And time required for that is usually comparable with just waiting out for her to take out another needle, because she tends to do another attack while flying in the middle.
For the most part, ability to hit her near walls feels like a bone thrown to players who just crave to at least do /some/ kind of damage to her.

I figured what to do on first try, which is why I said it's not hard. It's still bullshit fight because it's goes way too far out of regular "ruleset" of the game and forces you to wait around for disproportionate amount of time (unless you are willing to risk your ass taking those shots when she's near walls for very slight down-time reduction).

If you are playing as Kyoko you can just use your air special to down her even if she's on the middle spot.

Pretty sure I don't have it yet, all I can do in air is light kick or that backpack heavy hit.
Still, it's not about difficulty, it's about how different (not in good way) this fight is from others. It's easily "wanna replay game and then remember that moment" boss of RCG.

You can turn off voices in settings, but they will still be present in any animated video, like comic book scenes.
