I can appreciate why people like 2 more, but 1 is better. In 2, the whole thing feels like build up to be a mafioso, 2 missions where you're in the mafia, and the rest is just Vito and Joe trying to dig their way out of a hole.
Maybe it was a response to 1 having to hastily conclude itself, but the whole thing feels like rise and fall.

I'm pretty sure everyone was disappointed about Mafia 2 when it came out, and felt like Mafia 1 was the better game. It's just that with Mafia 3, people realized how much worse the series could get, and Mafia 2 suddenly does not seem THAT bad.
Mafia 2 was a product of a development hell and is barely a shell of what was intended to be released anyway.

No, people were actually really mad about how INSANELY boring the game is, with the same one fucking mission copy-pasted 30 times constituting the entire fucking game. With driving that felt like something out of WhackyWheels, INCREDIBLY dull city, ugly, murky visuals, horrible characters and story that made no sense, and some of the dullest, most phoned in combat.
Maybe people here on Yea Forums were freaking out about black protag, but in the world of sane people, everyone thought it was just a really bad game. It's like the fucking Ghostbusters reboot: Minority creates drama, most people just see it for the lazy shit that it really is.

Tried playing it recently for the first and it honestly aged terribly. Driving and shooting mechanics are dated and a chore, shame it's all you do in this game. Still had some fun with it, but couldn't possibly finish it (don't know how long it really is, played ~5h of it and had enough).

mafia 2 was the first game I played with my new gaming pc. It has very nice graphics and physics for it's time but very mediocre
