For example, lets say i fucking hate RPGs and i'm reviewing Ni No Kuni Remastered. Lets say i like literally everything about it is good but its an RPG, therefore its 0/10. ANd then I write "its repetitive, grindy, and enemies drop loot randomly." Lets say I shit on it for literally every single aspect that makes the game an RPG and give it a 0/10, and i'm also biased against RPGs because I dont like them.

What phil is saying is that you should look past your biases, understand what people like about these genres, critique the game for its content such as either shitty code or bad optimization, and dont make your score reflect your biases.

But you can't avoid bias in a review, in the end it's still just an opinion. And if you hate RPG's maybe it is still good that your honest reviews are out there? If you dislike a genre you probably have a reason, and it's likely that those reasons could legitimately apply to a game within it.

Some people like story in games, some don't. If I think a game has too much story, then I think that makes the game worse. Saying "The story is bad unless you like story, then you'll like it." Isn't really taking much of a position at all, and it's not good reviewing. I can just look up a description or a video of the game to see what's objectively there. The whole point of a review is to take a subjective look. I think most of the time when people criticize reviewers, deep down they're just criticizing their taste in games.
