The zoomers must die
focus more on the atmosphere and making the monster/demon/mutant/whatever actually feel threatening
It's not specifically zoomers, it's anyone:
-that can't get immersed in atmospheric video games
-that has too low IQ to register any form of horror that isn't a basic jumpscare
-that constantly has something to prove so they refuse to invest themselves even remotely in a game so they don't give a fuck about anything that happens in it and thus horror in a game is impossibilitated from affecting them
-that thinks you must make a walking simulator to make a horror game
-that thinks having weapons automatically removes horror from a game, when in reality it's all about smartly designing the game around them so you can defend yourself but you're not an OP god
-that thinks puzzles in horror games are unnecessary because they have low IQ
-that thinks they need to be swarmed in horror games by a million things always fucking happening and can't enjoy a couple of minutes of tension and silence
It ain't generational, horror can work on anyone, it's brainlets.
Brainlets are what's killing horror, specifically.
yep today psychology, zoomer are at fault here.
Inbetween RE2 remake, daymare 1998, some unexpected decent horror-ish elements in games where I didnt expect em and a new, promising topdown horror game I learned abt yesterday, it appears 2019 has been pretty good for the genre. Especially compared to the years where the horror genre consisted of Slendershit and all its unoriginal 5 minute clones. Fucking thank god for that.
is that tree doing okay
I wouldn't say it's better.
REmake 2 was more of a good horror-action hybrid than a real horror game.
And even then, it's the exception, we're still stuck in a sea of indies that do the usual goddamn boring as fuck walking simulator route.
And AAA, and even AA, still don't want to invest in horror.
The last two horror related things i've seen from a mid sized studios are Death Mark and Spirit Hunter: NG.
And they look cool but they're overpriced as fuck and they're VNs.
Why the hell does no one want to make horror games anymore?
The tree is enveloped with a layer of ice, probably by heavy rain and then a rapid decrease in temperature.
The inner ice is either melting, or more rain is pouring down and has entered the layer between the tree and the ice, so what you're seeing is just water dripping down behind the external ice layer.
No user it's Japanese black goop.
Super scary
What is wrong with the horror genre? Don't pussy out and actually answer the question.
An idea for a great horror game:
It takes place entirely on an old ocean liner going for a long voyage (5-7 day trip). Time period either right before WW1, or early to mid 1920s. You play as an officer on board, ordinary day on the job. Some weird shit begin happening. Strange noises. Some passengers acting strange. You go check out something in cargo hold and notice a black gooey streak of an unknown substance leading towards a dark corner with a bunch of cargo. There's a wooden crate there. It smells terribly. There's a hole in the crate, as if something broke out of it. The ship was transporting something it shouldn't have. What was it? Who knew about it? AND WHERE IS IT? Everything gradually becomes more fucked up. Some people die. Suddenly nobody responds on the wireless. The weather turns bad. Ship goes off course, the stars look unrecognizable. Nobody knows the location anymore. Ship slowly turns into a fucking nightmare, reality begins getting altered Silent Hill style.
There should be multiple endings. The ship should sink in at least two endings, one in which you escape, one in which you don't. There shouldn't be any ending where the ship arrives happily into a port and everyone is fine. In the ending where protagonist survives and the "creature" is eliminated, but the protag stays on board, then some unknown military dudes should unexpectedly intercept the ship and board it and take the protag away, indicating a "force" somewhere knowing about what the ship was transporting and wanting to cover it all up.
One of the most important things to make it spookier would be to never show the outside of the ship. Should only be seen from inside. One reason for is so the player never gets a clear grasp of the size. Another reason is it would help with the feeling of realism and of being trapped. It shouldn't be a small boat though, it should be about the size of the Olympic class or larger. Doesn't have to be based on a a real ship - in fact, best if it isn't.
>What is wrong with the horror genre?
It doesn't sell anymore.
Because:
Basically it's not the genre, it's the consumers.
Resident Evil 2 Remake sold 4.5 million copies, it's not the fault of consumers that no company tries to actually make a good horror game
>Resident Evil 2 Remake
REmake 2 isn't exactly a horror game.
It's more of an action game with some horror elements.
It leans more towards horror compared to, say, RE4, but it's hardly a good representation of an actual horror game.
It actually is because they don't sell.
Why bother making a really good horror game if it's not going to sell.
REmake 2 sold because it's Resident evil and more of an actiony game just like 5 did
This makes me think of the coomer
Extra game mode where you can rape the monsters.
>NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
>YOU CAN'T JUST BEAT YOUR DOGGO POGGO LOGGO SHOGGO WOOFER DOOFER MOOFER POOFER BARKO LARKO DARKO WARKO FLOOFER BLOOFER CLOOFER GOOD BOI DOOD MOI SHOOD POI
More games about heights
VR has so much wasted potential
Post shoveldog, faggot
I wonder how the builder of these stairs felt during the process.
Probably felt the whip on his back
I wonder how the whipper felt whipping a guy so high up.
More focus on tension and ambient music
Probably felt it was a better place to hit than his legs
Sounds kinda neat. I personally always prefer a horror story where at least some of the main characters survive over one where everyone just dies in the end.
>he unironically run forward for the fuck's sake
Is he fucking crazy or what?

It's closer

I had to stop it there as he just keeps going fast and overtaking people
no he just had to shit really badly
haha bro lets go hiking trust me its totaly safe
Why do people present that as scary? I just see some kids with pants pulled up to their necks.
I honestly thought it was supposed to be some parody video
you're implying that more and more people are having a lower IQ.
how can this be if more and more people are getting access to education and better quality of life?
i was a bit scared the first time i watched it at night but now i just think of gondola
>the stars look unrecognizable
The stars should just disappear at some point without telling you. I wonder how long it'd take for people to notice
Because what you see on socialmedia, like assholes going in a store to lick ice cream and put it back in the freezer or shit like Area 51 raid confirms it.
What a good boy :D
Nigga dass juss ice meltin
1k ft into hiking and chill the floor gives you this look.
Africans and Mestizos coming to the west doesn't make them automatically smarter.
>some unexpected decent horror-ish elements in games where I didnt expect em
>a new, promising topdown horror game I learned abt yesterday
Examples please. Also name the game.
Imagine a horror game where you have to run from tribal cannibals and you suddenly start hearing this in the distance
