Modern. More features and more Pogeymons and better girls.
I've replayed both Yellow and Crystal recently and the former is very basic though still fun for the nostalgia. Crystal is still a fantastic game though. I'd say I personally prefer the Gen 4 onwards games just for the sheer amount of features and content though.
And Gen 7 is unbeatable in terms of girls so yeah.

Game-wise or do you mean species-wise?
For games it's sort of in the middle. Not keen on what the Switch is doing for Pokemon (LGPE and SnS) but I don't mind modernization of the games (e.g. DS/3DS) over some classic stuff.
Species-wise my number one favorite Pokemon is Kabutops and will never change ever since I saw it almost 20 years ago, but most of my other favorites barring a few from gen 3 tend to skew to newer odd-numbered gens, like Scolipede, Reuniclus, the Ultra Beasts, and Golisopod. Not a whole lot in Galar that's grabbing my eye though.
Overall my favorite is a classic but I lean towards modern ones.
