To me it's more like what happened with Twilight Princess on Gamecube and Wii. All the good shit from the Wii U is removed (like map and item interactions) and the game would have looked close to the original reveal since the Wii U has nonstop dedicated power and they had to compromise due to the game needing to run in handheld mode for more than an hour.

Honestly by the end of its run it was worth owning a WiiU. It was terrible on launch but the first party support on it was great and you could get a solid little library going. Of course the games were never a problem, it was the confusing ass hardware that kept people from owning it.

This. I bought one discounted about a year after launch and had some good fun with it. The virtual console was solid (better if "unofficial") and playing games with my old GameCube controllers was nice.
Backwards compatibility by default was nice.
Like the 3DS, it had loads of decent first and third party games dumped on it.
What's cringe is that if Nintendo didn't fuck-up the entire marketing campaign, starting with the stupid name, it probably would gotten the attention the Switch did. It even had the same kind of handheld mode.
