I fucking love dark cloud, top tier taste user
such a good game
Kinda wanna replay it, fuck you OP
Dark Cloud 1 and 2 had a lot of interesting ideas, but poor implementation of them
Would love to see a remake of the series or a third title to try and fix them
>turning the barren empty husks of the city areas back into populated hubs with interesting characters
>dungeons that had back rooms that were really dangerous but worth going into
>danger was more than just stronger monsters, usually different monsters entirely were behind them
>pc’s that were fun to switch up between
>mechanics that everyone overlooks even in most sprawling modern games like hunger and thirst as well as equipment degradation
>memorable plot with interesting backstory
>weapon upgrading was rewarding and pretty fun
Dark cloud was the best, still holds up today if not for the graphics and a few flaws like the broken backrooms in the time travel dungeon
Dark Cloud 2 is my favorite game and every year I get more and more sad knowing that 3 will never be announced.
Spheda is fun, change my mind.
I fucking loved both games, but Dark Cloud 1 simplicity is what makes me keep coming back to it, but I really shouldn't. I have enough games to play as it is.
This may be our last chance
They wen’t a little overboard in 2 with the fishing and spheda and crafting, there was so much interchanging stuff that you felt like you had to do everything which got overwhelming.
Don’t get me wrong though, spheda was fun, but goddamn if the dungeons with gaps around the edges weren’t infuriating. Also, you should have been able to play spheda without clearing the entire floor first, just get to the ball and have everything disappear and reappear when you were done playing, otherwise you were doing a lot of extra running around in some dungeons. Both games were great in their own way. Really wsh we had dark cloud 3. Even if sony/level 5 never actually make “dark cloud 3” a tongue in cheek spiritual successor with all the elements would be fantastic too.
spheda is AMAZING. it's such a good feeling when you hit that sphere and get the goods. What were the rewards? weapon crafting materials? I can't remember...
you get a variety of stuff as spheda prizes, mostly rare stuff like level/revive powder, ability coins, gems, and in one case the sword ame no murakumo. Most levels have complete trash as second and third completion rewards though.
You also get medals used for buying costumes and name tags for first time completion and there's one (mostly useless) friend you need to get 10 spheda medals to recruit
Played the first game last year, loved the town building and weapon crafting but hated literally everything else about it. How does the sequel compare?
DC1 is pretty much straight up a town-building game mixed with a roguelite, and it makes absolutely no qualms to otherwise. DC2 hits a lot of the same bases, but the homogenized and more professional and "balanced" feeling (and only juggling two characters with specific uses each) kind of lost a lot of what made DC1 unique. It's PS2 launch awkward, but the admirable kind of awkward that still works. There's probably a reason why Japan didn't simply label DC2 a straight-up sequel, because it felt like Level-5 wanted to take the base formula in a new direction instead of try to succeed the first game specifically.
the presentation is a bit more polished with voice acting and improved visuals. the combat is mostly the same simplistic affair but you only get two characters and a ridepod, which is a robot you can ride. It's terribly charming and well worth a playthrough for the music and the voicework of Scott David Menville
Wish Dark Cloud 3 would be made. I feel like there are still a lot of things to explore in the series.
the combat's far more reasonable by only juggling two characters and having mechanics that don't feel like hot ass, and it has more of an actual plot and story arc instead of relying entirely on the villagers to do that for you, but the town building stuff is downplayed despite being improved upon.
>use an upgrade item it plays a beautiful melody
Interesting, I'll give it a shot. Thanks anons.
Dont forget to snap pictures, especially them boss monsters because unless you savescum you aren’t getting second chances to nab those, and they can be used to craft some neat stuff
The coolest thing about Dark Cloud 2 were the inventions and photography system with ideas. It felt super rewarding to go around taking pictures of things to use in inventions, or trying to think of where the hell in the game you'll find a rotating sign for a new invention.
Fuck those missable scoops though. Hope you remember to take pictures of boss attacks, otherwise you're not getting that new piece of gear. The ghost photos were really neat too.
God, is there a more infuriating feature in vidya than missables?
There's no reward by finding one. If by accident you find one then you wonder if you missed some before then, and you gotta stress yourself over trying to find the rest.
Kinda would like more of a remake of the first game, clean up the mechanics and design a bit, and give your party members more than just their introduction arcs. Xiao basically existing to have an early ranged character option is pretty arbitrary.
Boss pictures are the only thing i genuinely don't like because in the heat of the moment when staring down a fuckhuge monster you weren't expecting to fight or otherwise facing a baddie thats been built up, the last thing I'm gonna think to do is snap a picture of the moment, I'm focusing on the coming battle. Always forget to take them unless i put the camera as a quick item. Not only are missables stressful, but missables that are inconveniently placed are the absolute worst
i only tried this game on some demo disc
everytime i heard the music i almost cried and i dont know why
i barely knew what the game was
Xiao can trivialize the next few dungeons if you find the right slingshot in a chest (I think it was the bone slingshot?)
I'd love if the side characters had more story representation, but gameplay-wise it feels awful to juggle so many characters. If they got changed into special call-ins like Drakengard I think it'd flow better
I want a remake with more steve/super steve lines
Personally i'd make it so you have a town inventory and a party inventory, and then have 2-3 characters that go into a dungeon. The town inventory could be much larger and keep your gear and shit on the ready for everyone, and then you have the party inventory for the healing/buff items and repair powders as necessary. Then use your call-in idea to summon a party member if they're needed for progress so you don't have to quit the dungeon and bring them back to that floor again.
also make things like numerous materials you acquire in dungeons auto-compile to the town inventory once you bring them up out of the dungeon instead of having to micromanage all the individual upgrade materials and shit, like christ fuck. but they do take up party inventory until you head back, so you can still upgrade on the fly and the like.
Spheda was fun, but ONLY in places like Moon Flower Palace and Ocean's Roar Cave. Fuck gaps and holes desu. Also it really triggered me that if you warped to the time sphere, you'd lose out on the ABS from the last enemy.
>finally getting enough tickets to get that cat bikini
>catching the garayan fish
>winning at the races
>winning at spheda
>completing all creations
>100% all towns
>completing all weapons
How badly would nu-Level-5 fuck up Dark Cloud 3? Is it true that Ni no Kuni 2 has mobile game timers?
It does, yes. The kingdom building was really disappointing.
L5 haven't made a single halfway decent JRPG since DQ8.
this is the part when I bring up True Fantasy Live Online and we all cry a little bit
Meh, don't give a shit about MMOs
