What makes P4 cast so much more interesting than 5?

They felt like they were actual friends with each other

Hey look, it's that detective girl from the steam city.

They were a bunch of dorks.

They weren't, just Yea Forums being a contrarian.

Fucking this
on 5 I only feel a strong connection between ryuji, ann and joker
I cried like a bitch in the alternative ending of 4 when Yu leaves and everyone is saying goodbye at the station

Same

They were a lateral move from their predecessors (urban to rural, blue to yellow), granting them their own unique identity whereas the cast of P5 basically boiled down to "be the guys who came before, but cooler or worse to screw with expectations."

Haha, yeah, remember how Yukiko barely seems to register Yosuke's existence? Or the great chemistry between Kanji and Naoto where nearly every single piece on interaction between them consists primarily of, "Oh, h-hey Naoto, y-you sure are pretty today!" > "Oh. Thanks. Who are you again?" Or how Chie and Yukiko are ostensibly best friends but they more or less stop doing anything together after their sub-arc?

Best friends.

I hate that I haven't played through the game fully yet, because I can kinda see why this would be.
Half the party doesn't even go to Joker's school right?
How often do any of the other members just hang out with the main three outside of dungeons?
Pretty much everyone in P4 went to the same school so they had plenty of opportunity to interact at almost all times of day outside dungeons.
I'm not saying the P5 cast had to have that same advantage, but it definitely made it easier to get party members interacting outside of main plot relevant stuff.

They weren't as needlessly complicated. That is not to say that they weren't complex, it's just that none of them had a backstory as utterly retarded as Akechi's.

P4 wasn't a masterpiece but P5's writing was fucking awful, that's why

Oh fuck you. They did not feel LIKE FRIENDS. They felt like what a friendless loser who watches too much anime thinks friends feel like. I swear there wasn't a single independent personality between them to share.

I remember all of those things a hell of a lot more fondly than I do anything the 5 cast did. 4 was a very comfy game and the chemistry the cast had with each other completely blows 5's out of the water. I like the main characters of 5 well enough, but they literally each had one dungeon to be relevant before being completely forgotten about. Their social links were a lot more boring and uneventful too. The non party member links of 5 were great though.

>4 was a very comfy game and the chemistry the cast had with each other

What chemistry? 5 was also fuck awful but 4 was every bit as bad. What chemistry did they have? What did they do together at all to establish a bond that doesn't involve you?

you sound like a person that never played p4 before

Persona 4 is what you wish friends were like
Persona 5 is what having actually friends is like

You spend a lot more time together. After Yusuke, P5 starts throwing characters at you and they're barely developed or their confidants focus on someone else entirely.

The only good party members in P5 is Ryuji, Makoto, and Akechi. Anne's a bimbo, futabas a smelly neet, morgana runs away after being called out, Yosuke needed a better SL, and Haru is boring and brought in too late.

Well written game, unlike P5

You obviously never had friends. That made me sad holy shit

Yeah I'm sure all your friends have a crush on you and worship the ground you step on user.
