Your first bullet point in "Old School Shooters" literally describes the original Doom.
And your point about "levels feel huge" doesn't apply to Doom 2016. None of the levels in that game are large.

TSE solve most of the issues of nu-old school shooters though, simply by having some actual level design as opposed to TFE which was just arenas with corridors in between.
Such a shame literally noone else has bothered to try.

A lot of weapons in the built engine games were gimmicky more than anything and even Doom2 and Quake suffered from weapons that make others obsolete like with the Super Shotgun and the Super Nailgun in Q1.
Shame you're one of those schizos who can't start a topic without glorifying one side, I wanted to have an actual discussion about this topic but this sort of cancer doesn't deserve more of my time beyond this post.
