Will there ever be a better rpg than this? Will a game ever hit me like this one did? If there is any game out there that you believe has a better story than this one, please tell me. I am living a successful life but playing this game is still most of my happiest memories.

>can a different game give me a nostalgia rush
no

P3 is the only other RPG to affect me at the same level as CT so maybe try that.

Persona 4 Golden

I couldn't agree more. Literally this game and FF6 are moments of my childhood that I wish I could relive on demand. I try and replay them as often as I can. The nostalgia is strong, but I truly do think they're some of the best examples of the genre.

play Rudra no Hihou

Super Mario RPG was better.

I started playing this game completely blind yesterday. I really dislike the battle system jfc. But I plan to complete it to see the appeal. I hope that it impacts me as much as Earthbound and mother 3 did. I am playing all these games as 20+ years old for the first time so it's great that I don't have nostalgia goggles for them (but I loved mother series either way). Gotta leave before I get spoiled.

which console are you playing on? The battle system works much better with the ds menu in my opinion. I have played through both the super nintendo and ds versions many times. The dialogue from the super nintendo is more nostalgic for me personally. In every other way I'd say the ds version is superior though.

I am playing the super nintendo version because I usually like to play original versions. It feels very clunky and I would just rather if it played in a separate screen like the usual but honestly I am a patient person so I can endure it easily.

you will 100% have a better experience with the ds version, very little is changed. Honestly if it weren't for nostalgia I'd say the ds dialogue is better. The super nintendo version has a lot of broken english and sometimes the emotional weight of moments are lost because of it. Of course I can understand the desire to play the original version.

do i need to use the touch screen on the DS version? im emulating on PC I was about to start a playthrough now

No and the DS version has a much better translation

you can use the touch screen or the dpad to navigate the menu

so are there multiple endings to this game? how much playtime do you think one time through is?

I believe in the ds version the ending varies slightly depending on how you choose to defeat the final boss? I could be misremembering though. And it is a pretty long game, at least 20 hours, maybe more for your first playthrough if you're going in blind.

>If there is any game out there that you believe has a better story than this one, please tell me

Are you a teenager or have you just not played much else? CT is a fantastic game overall but its story is run of the mill shounen.

Play the SNES version for gods sake. It runs at a much higher resolution and the DS extras are a detriment.

Yes, but it's all based off how you choose to enter the final battle and I could be remembering wrong, but you keep your levels in a new game plus.
At most, 50 hours, probably 30-40.

Never gonna give u up :)

>It runs at a much higher resolution and the DS extras are a detriment.

They are 100% ignorable. It's not like Human Revolution Director's cut forcing the DLC story in.

Chrono Trigger literally wasn't even in the top 10 when it comes SNES JRPGs.

No. Just hearing the truce village theme, Crono's mom always cheerful and happy to see her son and his friends, thinking about Lucca saving her mother. All so heartwarming.

name em

Too bad Cross destroys Chrono Trigger and fucks over the cast out of spite.

Try playing something that isn't FF DQ or tales yah?

Chrono Trigger is probably the best game ever made. Not my personal favorite, but I have yet to play a game that is so close to flawless. It's a masterpiece in literally every department. I don't know how they did it

I imagine it would be frustrating to have played Cross without knowing how to read, and thinking that Crono and Marle died, or that Robo and Lucca were still dead after the ending.

The exploration of history in a fictional world was neat. There were some ideas that were mind-blowing, like a super advanced society living during the Ice Age that was lost to time.

Ok but the porre uprising is retarded and gay.

>Will a game ever hit me like this one did?
not a chance. either kys now or become a NEET and play JRPGs forever

Kind of, but it was explicitly just a bit of sequel bait. Hell, they even show Guardia revived, so it's not like they made it a huge cliffhanger that the future pivoted upon or anything, just an unresolved adventure for Crono and the gang.

Nah it was dumb and forced and gay and I hate Cross.

Counter point; you're dumb and gay and I hate your face.

FFVI
Mother 3

>thinking that Crono and Marle died, or that Robo and Lucca were still dead after the ending.
Explain how that didn't happen beyond any doubt.

As long as we agree on Cross :)

This picture was drawn by Kidd, who was found AFTER the fall of Guardia. She met Crono and Marle.

Plus there's no reason to assume otherwise, the only reason to think they're dead is their "ghosts", but Miguel very specifically says they aren't actually ghosts, just echoes of lost timelines.

And she couldn't have cobbled that together from tales told from Lucca. LMAO

>found AFTER the fall of Guardia.
I don't remember everything about the game, but I kind of doubt that. Can you prove it too?

Chrono Trigger was so good it made its way into my top 5 games of all time and I don't even like JRPG's.

And I played it for the first time at 26 btw, so there's no nostalgia happening.

I feel like I missed out by not playing this. I should probably try it before I hit 30.

No, I don't think she could cobble together multiple true to life portraits from tales about dead people, then have Lucca think "Yes, I shall adorn my halls with the eerie death masks of my murdered friends, as seen through the tortured minds eye of a child".

I guess I got that a little wrong, Kidd is 16 in 1020, the fall of Guardia occurs in 1005, so she was an infant, not waiting to be "born".

Better script, better UI, cutscenes.

Man I hate the anime intro compared to the SNES one. Is it possible to restore the SNES intro?

Good on you for correcting yourself then. It could really be either way then with Chrono/Marle, but there is no way Robo is still around.

And that alone makes Chrono Cross a traitor and a big "Fuck you" from Kato.

>he doesn't love the bittersweet intro with the picture
Shit taste.

Its the fucking shits.

The Time Devourer was removed from his space outside time, which means his influence is removed from the timeline. Time Bastard Theory means everyone still gets sucked through time portals into the past, but the Crimson Flame is no longer a link to Lavos, FATE would no longer become corrupted, and Robo would never even be used for the Prometheus circuit in the first place. He could still be dead, he has a long fucking way to go to reach 1000 A.D. without being plugged into a time locked supercomputer, a lot longer than his first trip, but that's still a lot of life for him to live.

>just the same clips but in game instead and with more in game clips
Again, shit taste. I like the original song for the main theme better though.

That's right bitch I can see you typing another infantile reply. Go on and reply I fucking dare you.

this is where im stopping for the night but what the fuck Yea Forums i save the princess then they lock me up

So he's just in "who knows" limbo like Chrono/Marle then. That's not much better.

I kinda like Lufia 2 more for an RPG of that generation. Equally great music, good sprites, and much much better gameplay in and out of battle.

Considering he was in "might not have even EVER existed" limbo at the end of CT, I don't see how him living a peaceful life for years, then perhaps even sticking around long enough to just live alongside Lucca and the rest is a worse ending for him.

It should play after the anime one.
And then the anime one plays again, followed by the original, in that order.

YES. And go in as blind as possible! One of the best video games ever produced and the amount of emotion the characters convey in such a limited medium.

Didn't he end up getting with that female robot at the end of CT?

Yes and Cross destroyed it.

Acceptable.

Yes, you're right, during the Epoch ending. Forgot about that.

Suikoden 2 will do it, familia

>he's not playing the original Japanese version
yikes

this one's pretty gud

Yeah, there was.

>haven't played Chrono Trigger ever.
i'm saving it along with Super Mario RPG for a year when I have no modern JRPG's to play.

>modern JRPG's
Cringe.

...for cleaning your ass.

Overrated garbage. Even Cross is better.

>modern JRPG's
you wont even live to see the year if you do this

>local map

really?

Don't do this to yourself

Zoomers.

playing this game for the first time (DS Version) on my Galaxy 8 with Drastic and loving it.
Anyone know of an Android controller with zero lag?

CT is baby's first SNES JRPG. Try pic related instead.
