I mean, it's either that or the guy uses items and never loses the lead in the first place, making it even harder to reach now because they have and will use tons of Nitro and shields to further fuck up other players, at that point it's just playing Time Trial with tangible ghosts.
I don't think a "no items" game mode will solve anything, one fuck up and you'd be out of the race the same way if the spammed you 3 missiles at the start.

No I don't, if I have a big enough lead I don't even bother using items. Which is my point if you have a lead to the point where they can't catch you which is common using items is overkill.

I agree with this however I don't know about you but items don't even have a 50/50 chance of going where I want them to go most of the time. I've seen ridiculous tracking and bombs swerve for no reason so I can't rely on them.

You can influence bombs if you press left or right after shooting them out. They still swerve towards others automatically though.

I realized yesterday when doing battle mode challenges, threw a bomb, didn't press anything, but still tried to go towards the idle P2.
If you add that to the awful netcode and you'll understand why are you getting hit by phantom shit more often. Now the beacon snipers I've been getting, I'll never figure out if it's luck, bugs or actual top tier skills.

Also, this is my favorite gp so far. The nitro prix unlocks were tons of funs but the track was vehicular aids, spyro circuit is pretty cool despite the portals leading directly into powerups.

The extra acceleration can help deal with powerup tumble/spin out but frontrunning is way too important and cornering is too big to overlook. Losing wumpa juice is very often a death sentence, better acceleration doesn't counteract this
