Jesus, it's one of the most shockingly boring shows I've ever watched. And that's just by regular standards, and not Devil May Cry as a whole where Dante has to throw a phone spinning through the air just to hang it up.

Like, why the fuck would anyone think DEVIL MAY CRY should have an episode that is literally just a poker match? Or how about that one where Dante infiltrates a demon-run prison , waits for the routine slaughter to happen, pulls his guns and sword out for a big fuckin' blood orgy....then it cuts to Lady doing something irrelevant....before cutting back to Dante.....fight over.

And there is very little fun interaction between established characters, or any banter whatsoever, to make it a fun slice-of-life either. God what a shit show.

You all need to watch both again. Mortal Kombat's budget very visibly vanishes about half way through, Sonia is terrible in every way, they play the song like 12 fucking times throughout, there is some dogshit 90s CGI played totally straight, and it tries to be earnestly dramatic at moments. It's half of an okay movie.

Street Fighter, on the other hand, is so god damn fun, and every actor involved had a hell of a time even though they had to suffer in a fucking rainforest for months on end. Van Damme is off his tits, and Raul Julia fucking LOVES being Bison. The guy was dying from fucking terminal cancer, going through chemo during the shoot, but used his sheer force of will to stay in production just so he could fight Van Damme. Was he a martial artist? No? Did it stop him? Also no.
The film knows how stupid it is too and totally runs with it. Which I think is in line with how cartoonish Street Fighter has been as a series.

Writers wanted to explore the evil faction, show inside struggle, show human servants on it, show a evil female lead.

These ideas alone are not bad, but whoever was in charge completely forgot the size of the project and the ammount of avaliable resources.

I really enjoyed Carmilla and the vampire inside affairs, but that plotline achieved nothing and was completely irrelevant. Also, caused the main charachters to just sit on a basament for most of the time.

Could have been better.

Worth it just for that fight scene set to 'Bloody Tears'.

There's nothing worth going in-depth with the Carmilla/Hector/Isaac plot, Dracula's depression is one-note and never explored. It's boring because the characters are simplistic as fuck but they're supposed to carry an apparently complex story.

Pop in any S1/S2 episode of Game of Thrones and you'll get a slow-paced but super fucking entertaining story because it's well written and well paced.

Castlevania S2 is literally nothing. Even when they finally get to the actual Castlevania the fight doesn't have that much oomph because we didn't spend enough time with the key players (Trevor's Crew and Dracula), so it doesn't feel like an ending where it all comes together and we don't feel like we just went on a journey (or rather a story) with them.
Just think to the moment Dracula says "I'm killing our boy" or whatever and notice how the entire season didn't build up to that. It's what I'm talking about

Also they didn't play Duane & Brando's Castlevania 3 Rap in the credits, and that's hella gay not gonna finna lie to you

IIRC season 1 was working from Ellis's original plan for it as a movie, so I'm guessing most of S2 is just filler for them storming the Castle as the ending of the movie.

There is very little action and zero style, the main reasons DMC is even on the map. It’s not even particularly funny. It’s just a bland drag with a red coat hanging over the top. You don’t even get to see most of Dante’s fights nor do you get to actually see his DT. It’s pretty clear they had no budget.

Castlevania was far from the worst video game adaptation. In my opinion, the Bubsy and Battletoads pilots were so bad, I couldn't finish watching them. For full-length series, the Darkstalkers cartoon was pretty awful, and did not like Captain N (cool concept, but not handled well, plus none of the characters were like their game counterparts). My personal favorite video game adaptations would be Bomberman Jetters (what got me interested in Bomberman) and the Kirby anime (mostly the Japanese version, the dub is a guilty pleasure of mine, mostly for King Dedede).

There are entirely too many shitty video game movie adaptations to mention to cover all of them. Just assume I meant every game adaptation that wasn't Silent Hill or the first Mortal Kombat movie. (and a VERY small nod to the first Resident Evil movie, which could've been a genuinely alright movie if not for the director jamming his talentless stickperson wife into it.)
It's plenty faithful compared to all the other shit Hollywood has shat out since the 80's.

Uwe Boll basically abused this by repeatedly making garbage films that failed miserably, some often believe on purpose. So Germany revoked his license to do so. The bigger flaw of the adaptation was reducing the actual fucking adventure through the castle of CASTLEvania to like half an episode at the end of season 2. In hindsight, trying to have three main protagonists with their budget was a horrible idea.

Haven't watched Spirits Within but I feel like Advent Children has to be more of a disappointing watch. I mean trying to make a blockbuster with "realistic" CGI animation about random amalgamations of plot points from the Final Fantasy is going to suck because of course it will. And directed by the creator of the series, a series of JRPGs which up to that point had only not been top-down 2D until four years ago, rather than an actual movie director. No way that wasn't gonna suck.

But Advent Children...for fuck's sake, that's a continuation of FF7's story we're talking about here. And what do they do? Make the movie a boring plotless nonsensical mess, give the characters unnecessary "new" designs, fuck up Cloud's personality (and make him into the emo stereotype he is now), and add in fanfiction-tier twists like...a resurrected Sephiroth, and clones of him, with a metal version of One Winged Angel playing while Cloud and Sephiroth rematch! Okay that remix is sick but the whole thing is just so stupid.

Besides the lots of boring talking and somewhat lackluster action, It just doesn't feel like Castlevania, it feels generic, not that Castlevania was totally unique but what identity it did have, its not even fair to say the anime captures the surface feeling of the games, it just seems like a standard adventure series, this feels like if you removed all the blood and swearing it would fight right in on 90s saturday morning cartoons
