Is there some sort of trick to parrying in this game with a medium shield...

Is there some sort of trick to parrying in this game with a medium shield, because I've been practicing on the silver knights in anor londo for literally 3 hours and I'm not getting any better. I mastered parrying in both the previous games but for some reason it's insanely unforgiving in this game. Seriously, I'm like clawing my eyes out trying to wrap my head around how I'm missing what seem to be perfectly-timed parries. Like, is it a single fucking frame or something? It's ridiculous. I've never struggled so much trying to learn parry timing.
And no, don't tell me to get some sort of parry-specific shit like a round shield or a buckler, I'm autistically dedicated to doing this with a fucking medium shield and it shouldn't be this goddamn difficult.

Dont react parry, you'll never hit the timing.
Parry when you know an attack is coming like a combo, either the second or third hit depending on weapon.
Block the hit, release block, parry.
Here's a visual reference for the different parry tools.

yeah that doesn't seem to help at all. the spear ones are slightly easier, in fact the ONLY consistent parry I can perform is the lightning lunge attack. I can't parry any attacks from the sword knights, and I've been trying for hours.

why dark souls 3 dude is giving you a thumb up?

Mid shield parries are real tedious in 3. You either need to know the timing perfectly or have good anticipation and reflexes. Isn't there a small shield that would fit with your fashion/build if that's the issue?
If it's just for pve, parrying isn't as useful as it can be in DaS or DeS since enemies have lots more health.

Wait for the enemies sword to pull back all the way, then press the left trigger bro

He's encouraging you. "Link the fire bro, you can do it!"

ugh, it's just so unreliable.
sorry for the shitty webm I just really can't figure out how to get webmconverter to give me a decent size/quality ratio

fuck youuuuu

literally never parried in this game, never felt the need, if you want gameplay built around parry play sekiro.

>it's just so unreliable
Yeah, your timing's unreliable as shit. Acquire proficiency.

Watch that one faggot chasethebro. I basically learned how to parry just by watching him play

my timing is "unreliable" because I'm switching it up trying to find the goddamn motherfucking frame I'm suppose to do it on since the logical timing doesn't seem to work at all. seriously, I'm sitting here failing a parry literally hundreds of times trying every conceivable timing, and even when I get it, I can't seem to repeat it. His overarching lightning attack for instance, I'm 0 for like 1000 on parrying it. I've tried everything, I've got no fucking clue when I'm suppose to hit the parry but and I've been specifically trying for hours.

You have to feel it. Like when he puts his sword to his back and you see him charge at you, thats when you should strike.

The one rule of DS3 is to never, ever use a medium shield for parrying. The only thing it's good for is setup parrying and even then it won't work on all weapons unlike a small shield like the Llewyellen or however the fuck it's spelled would.

Its not unreliable man. I wish you were on PS4 or Xbone I would show you I can parry consistently without fail.

Your timing is way too late in the post Im referencing. When parrying in PvE you want to think of attacking your enemies weapon with your shield. Your goal is to make it so the swing of your parry is smacking your opponents shield at the moment of attack.

The parrying in ds3 is a mess, is one of the reasons the game is shit, just give up and do what they want you to do: dodge into backstab/attacks then move away until the next window in the neverending staminaless storm of non-poise breakable attacks every monster does in this poorly balanced mishmash of bloodborne mechanics into a souls game

honestly I kind of feel you. just got finished with the dancer and string of attacks he does when his health is low is goddamn infuriating, gives you no time to recover before he's hitting you with the next attack, then his shit has like a 30 foot range whenever he wants. adding to the annoying boss combos is the behavior of mob AI, who seem to consciously stagger animations with each other so it's impossible to dodge or get a hit in. I began realizing that the game was literally programmed to have the second enemy attack you at the literal millisecond you roll away from the first attack, as if they designed it to catch you out of the roll. This means that literally the only way to deal with mobs of enemies is to lure one away at a time or to get a parry, which is why I was practicing. of course they made that hard as shit too

Is your TV on gamemode?
Do you have a fastmonitor?

you gotta parry when the weapon is about to fly towards you

parry system has always been the same they just updated the animations. just dont try that shit in PvP, some weapons are just unparryable because of lag

He plays dark souls with a shield

jesus these knights in lothric castle are 10xs worse. They can randomly decide to break out of a stagger and hit you whenever they want and their attacks do ludicrous amounts of damage, how fun, can't wait to spend another 3 hours failing to parry these guys too

fuck parry mechanics. turns the game into a fucking timed button press simulator. is having block and dodge really not enough you just gotta include to most unfun and also most beneficial mechanic? fuck that id rather just get a shield and never die
