Enemies will literally flash with the sort of attack they're going to do, and you dodge / parry based on the colour of the flash. Then you let 'er rip, Jack.

You're supposed to be parrying incoming attacks, then slicing up your opponents just right so you can nab a quick health/energy refill.

What the fuck do you mean what direction you should parry? You parry in the direction the enemy is. If you see the flash then you already know the direction.

I thought you had to take into account the direction of the swing, like if an enemy is doing an overhead slash you gotta press forward + attack to parry it, and if it's an horizontal slash then press left/right + attack, kinda like in Mount & Blade. If that's not it then I'm a huge retard.

The motion of the attack is irrelevant, you just press the analog button and light attack in the direction of the enemy who is doing the attack.

Its literally a 4 hour QTE, less depth than DMC1 by a landslide. Its absolutely annihilated in terms of depth by DmC which came out the same year but nobody who was involved in that franchise war actually has the skill to gauge out the depth of an action game without someone else telling it for them and nobody was going to praise muh ebil DmC over platinums newest epic anime cutscene game

MGR is deeper than that. I'm not going to deny it's a shallow game, it is but its still deeper than the likes of God of Square-Square-Triangle. I have no clue as to why you'd say that DMC is any deeper than MGR much less DmC.

Even on the simple surface you have 5 melee weapons to cycle through in real time in DmC and every single one of them has a more complex function than the HF blade where its completely irrelevant what you do with it and the best choice is to just mash light attacks until the zandatsu prompt appears

Well "argued" mouthbreather, MGRR is certainly the right game for someone of your mental capacity. Just keep mashing X and forward on the stick and do the QTE when it comes on screen to get those epic cinematic finishers. I always felt like real gameplay, combos, timing, reactive combat and any type of creativity kept getting in the way of the epic cutscenes in my hack and slash games up until now.
