Flick right stick down and play Tetris as best as you can.

Supreme autism
I've played since release and haven't won

I wish there was some sort of ingame explanation for what the heck is attackers, badges or evwn what's,happening half the time

You play it like regular tetris but beware of random junk lines players throw at you when they clear lines.

>Set it to attackers
>Go for combos
>Pray

Tried that. Suddenly it seems like everyone starts attacking me from everywhere. itlsmfruatrating

Playing super defensively will get you fucked later on as people accumulate kills.

You need to be constantly fast and setting up combos and T-Spins and can clear tricky garbage.
It takes practice. You actually WANT the pressure because it makes you stronger and if you can take people out early and keep things manageable you can power into the endgame on a strong suit.
But even then, if you face anyone really good at Tetris, chances are that person will devour you in their wake of rapid combos regardless of advantage.
I managed a 10% win rate.

Just remember to be careful when going for KOs. the game increases the amount of trash you send per line according with the amount of people that is targeting you at the same time. So people who fall under the KO target will usually have multiple people targeting them at the same time, specially mid and late game. if you feel like you're getting too much trash change your target to random and they will get off you since they most likely are targeting attackers.

I got as far as to fourth place until the other Tree decided to gang up on me

>game starts
>i'm already at the top within a minute

Hit down on the control stick and just play tetris man. The constant garbage really helps you get better fast and keeps it interesting.

>the game increases the amount of trash you send per line according with the amount of people that is targeting you at the same time.
What, really?
Fuck, I didn't knew that at all.

it's not that complicated, they probably don't mention them because they are clearly obvious and if you don't get it then maybe puzzle games aren't your forte.

>KOs
targets people who are close to being KO'd
>Attacker
targets people who are attacking you
>Random
targets random people
>badges
targets people with badges (you get badges from knocking people out, it increases the amount of junk you send to others and when you KO someone you also take their badges)

10% win rate is impressive. I still struggle for top 10 ranking but only started playing tetris a month or so ago.

This game is literally the "pick a god and pray" game

Sounds accurate. My last breath approaches constantly before even 80 players

There's a luck factor naturally, but skill and strategy is a big part.

You think you're going to do hot by stacking as many Tetrises back to back as possible, but you send more garbage by doing large combos.
It's easy to do a large combo by setting up a two-wide column and doing successive single/double/triple clears, whatever your queue dictates and allows.

Also, out of curiosity has anyone ripped any assets from the game like background textures? I'd really like that Kirby one as a desktop wallpaper.

>All these people saying "just put it on attackers, bro!"
You're wasting your time if you have it on attackers unless you actually have multiple people targeting you. Otherwise, stick to KO or badges to try and poach on people

Yeah, usual strategy is to stick to KOs until you have some badges, and then switch to attackers once people start targeting you.

This is my first Tetris game. I’ve played for twenty hours and only won one time.

Many of the competing players will have been playing for a very long time.
I've been playing since the original Game Boy version, Tetris DX was a particular favourite, and I really cut my teeth with competitive play on Tetris DS's online mode. Later, Tetris Party Deluxe and Tetris Axis were superb for modern core Tetris experiences.

After so much play you become fluent in stacking, and know how to route out your block placement for efficient stacking and clearing.

Learn to T-spin
That's it, you'll win almost every match

>you play like regular tetris

No you don't, lol. Unless if you're very specifically aiming for this.
Took me 5 tries. People kept killing me at the last 10 or dying to random shit and giving me two KO's too early.

Attached: nope.jpg (1280x720, 134K)

the fuck is that? I don't even know what that is.

>everyone aiming at you

But that's the best thing ever. Single lines become 5 garbage attacks against everyone, and chains will stagger the placement of their garbage tunnels.

Being targeted is the best way to win at this game.

T Spins make my head hurt. I don’t even know how to begin learning that shit. I also feel like I build in an extremely slow and suboptimal way.

Just set to attackers and focus on T-spins and build nothing but 4wides when you can

>consistently top 10
>haven't won a game in ages

Makes me mad, eventually I dropped the game. Only come back to get the special themes.

Tspins are easy.
Just make a T shape, then cover one of the T arms with anything.
Unironically the best tutorial:

>I also feel like I build in an extremely slow and suboptimal way
You are. T Spins are objectively better at dumping garbage.

Wow this tutorial is actually really good.
I do t spins once in a while but I this showed me it's not that hard to so.

>only won a single game in the 20 hours I played
>entered Invictus mode
>got slaughtered

This game is so fun but holy fuck is the competition insane.

I think learning how to clear garbage is more important than attacking at the early stage
It's a specific skill that you need to focus on. If you're not actively paying attention to the gaps then you will place blocks over them and lose without understanding the mistake you made.
T-spinning as part of garbage clearing is optimal, but garbage comes first

Reading OP again I guess you're not a beginner but a lot of decent players still mess up in multiplayer

Take the lessons here and practice on marathon mode at a slower pace. You will want to build up a strong intuition for piece placement before you move on to more advanced strats or focus on speed. While you might want to jump straight to fancy t-spin techniques, executing them doesn't do you any good if you fuck up the rest of your stack in the process.

>tfw never won a game of Tetris 99 and can only get Top 10 inconsistently.
