PW is amazing. I put over 300h into it on PS3, and replayed the story alone in a fraction of that time a week before TPP arrived.
In the end, TPP was trash. All they would have needed to do is to make a PW in HD graphics and larger maps, but no.

PW is honestly a good game. Better than TPP at very least.

It's hard to describe, but basically, regardless of the hardware limitations, the entire of Peace Walker feels like a properly thought out and compiled package than the total mishmash of lackluster elements that is Phantom Pain. PW has a strong identity and an unmistakeable MGS aura, while PP feels very much so many other AAA open-world games. The HD port also runs smooth 60fps and controls nicely.

Also, motherfucking CO-OPS , and Cold War -era /k/unt porn.
Nuff said.

I too enjoyed endlessly dragging bodies all the way back to the truck spawn point while guards respawned. Then sitting in a box for 5 minutes waiting for my stamina to recharge.

Peace Walker is crap, especially if you're playing it to completion. Even if you aren't, the main story is terrible and there's nothing worse than the stupid vehicle bosses.

Peace Walker is a downgrade in every way from Portable Ops other than the Fulton system, rather than dragging knocked out troops to the truck.

Well, it does tie directly into V with the establishment of MSF, introduction of Huey, Paz, and Chico (even though neither of them are in the story much and the few scene's Paz gets are kind of hidden), and it establishes BB's departure from the Boss's will. It contained some pretty significant plot elements but yeah, as a whole, not a whole lot of the rest of it is really referenced much or has any bearing on V's primary plot.

MG2 has a lot of backtracking but it has great level design and IMO the big boss fight is VERY memorable

You should play it, especially since it's the last game in the collection. I think it's one of the best in the series, despite kind of a bad story and obvious limitations of it being a PSP title. The content variety and density is great if you get into it.
And aside from choosing missions to play, the main story is mostly standard metal gear fair with linear progression between levels.

It's more of an epilogue to peace walker than anything. Playing them back to back made me really appreciate V more than I did the first time. It's melancholy and hollowness is such a bleak contrast to peace walkers slice of life campiness. And big bosses speech at the end of peace walker, and then actions in V, have more weight to them than they do if peace walker isn't fresh in your mind or if you had never played it. I hadn't played peace walker before gz/tpp, and not only was I confused as fuck as to who everyone was, but I also hated TPP, now I've come to appreciate it much more, it's the black sheep of the series for sure, but it's got it's own strengths

Read the summaries of MG1 and MG2 contained within MGS1 (or play them in MGS3 if you wish, they're okay), and then play MGS1 2 3 and stop there. You can imagine the rest just by that last shot of MGS3, it'll be better than what fucking Kojima made.

The various prototype bot fights are some of my favorite in the series. PW HD is a great time.
