The split happened BECAUSE everyone was sick and tired of that shit and complained about it every day. Those generals also had the worst tripfag and avatarfags in them. /vg/ is still doing its job today by containing those fuckers over there. Yea Forums may not have become a flawless and wonderful haven without them but it sure as hell improved.

I'm not so sure if /vr/ was really necessary as it seems pretty slow over there and most of the activity is just doom wads, but eh, no one is enforcing a "no retro vidya on Yea Forums" rule so it doesn't bother me.

I've been here longer than I care to admit and the board split of Yea Forums and /vg/ was a terrible idea. At least the board was flooded with video game threads instead of the dump that it is now. The rule isn't even enforced consistently so you have gay ahit like Smash threads 24/7 or the faggot Console Tan Tuesday shit.

It doesn't allow anything released after the year 2000 because PC doesn't have gens. Dreamcast came out just before the cutoff.
Dreamcast is also like a half step between the 5th gen and 6th gen. Wouldn't really count it as either one.
