You can't lose outright on your first playthrough and it's damn near impossible to obtain a score higher than zero, so basically it's the 5 pity points and that's it, almost no matter what you do.
You're supposed to have your own story as you win and lose battles but you can't outright fail the whole game and get annihilated. You'll see the story to it's conclusion one way or another.

The translation time really isn't the problem. Mangagamer only has 1 programmer working on alicesoft titles, and it's why they take forever to release them. Sengoku was translated by MG for roughly a year, but just came out.

I liked Eiyuu Senki, the battle system was fun and the characters were endearing, but it suffered hugely on pacing. I doubt it's even possible to be in a position where you risk losing the game, even going out of your way to make things as hard as possible for yourself. There's also no reason to ever do so. Sengoku has a pretty huge web of events and triggers that more or less ensures that the story is progressing in some way and you're getting dragged into wars with people, and the end game score and new game bonus loop is just straight up genius and gives the game a considerable boost to longevity. I doubt there's ever a reason to play Eiyuu Senki more than once, even if it wasn't a bad experience.
