Have only played KF4, but I found it weirdly atmospheric. The soundtrack is amazing and has this immense sense of loneliness. Gameplay is dated and clunky, but tolerable. Its just a matter of circling enemies for the first half of the game and beating them up with your fists. You can see hints of what the souls series would be like, with DS2 resembling it the most.

So Dark Souls 3 and the hollows turning into trees, the dying of the First Flame, the return of the winged serpents (which was cut), the eclipising and dying of the sun, and the dissolution of the world is supposed to symbolize the world resetting back to archtrees, dragons, and no change, right? hell, even the undead curse is really a bastardized form of eternal life; the dying of the first flame is the death of disparity and change.

its funny, o&s took me 30 attempts to do the first time i ever played ds1, now its the easiest boss for me out of all the games. i can do it solo with no damage taken. no other boss is like that, they have to be the best for that reason.

Mostly presentation and amount of effort. The enemy design and variety is unparalleled, you'll find strange creatures that you encounter only once or twice, possibly not at all if you're not very observant, to speak nothing of the bosses that have later become primarily large humanoids in armor in the later Souls games or flailing dog things in Bloodborne.
Combine that with an almost-open world designed in such a way that makes you feel like you're actually traversing it instead of going from one video game level to the next and you have a really unique experience.

Reminder that the Soulsborne games always had a complete different concepts at the beginning but in the last couple of months of production they will be rearranged into something completely different, repurposing NPCs and bosses and cutting away potentially entire areas and enemies.
I am amazed the end results still manage to somehow work.

Only DS2 was put through that to that extent. The DS1 changes ware made pretty early on I think, DS3 though... its hard to say and I havent seen any official answer. Judging by all the cut content there was definitely more going on. Some of the early cut enemies in Bloodborne make me think the original concept was demonic/occult influence instead of based on Lovecraft and the Moon Presence was supposed to have that second fight. Demons Souls of course had an entire area removed (the map is still in the game files, Id love to see it restored in a remaster). The one game that doesnt seem to have many stitches is Sekiro, but its the shortest, most contained by far. I feels a bit like they wanted to test the fighting system out and build a game around it, theres not even any dlc for it.

Not really. Only one attack, the one that ends with a thrust attack at the end of a combo.
His whole body is part of the hitbox and you can get hit even if you're behind him real close.
It's real bullshit, but that's the only shitty hitbox he has as far as I remember.
He's tough because he deals 3 types of damage, hits real hard, is more agressive than most vanilla bosses and has the idols buffing and healing him if you don't kill them before the fight.
