Alright. I'm staying away from anything Denuvo. There used to be a recording program I used when I played in bands called Cubase. I'm not sure if it was 7 or VST, but I managed to get a cracked copy. Because that shit was fucking expensive. Usually in the range of $500-$1000. The team that cracked it said it's the last time they were doing it, because roughly 70% of the program was copy protection. They literally had to rewrite some things on the driver level just to get past it. It took them hundreds of hours to do it. But low and behold, once they got rid of it, the system requirements dropped dramatically.

And low and behold, I just checked the price of the new cubase, and it's fucking $844. Screw that shit. I'd rather buy Reaper for $60.

The performance thing isnt actually %100 clear, most are allegations without enough proof behind them and most ''oh it runs much better after it is removed'' things came with performance patches as well
Cracks bypass it instead of reoving etc
Now the implementation of it in Tekken actually did hurt performance in the shape of mini stutters with certain moves and I think Sonic Mania had some issues too but that could've been an implementation issue too
In short, there's an above average chance that it does fuck performance and we know it also violates your privacy so it's bad no matter what

See, denuvo takes the concept of "dont trust the client" and ramps it up to WW2 levels of extreme. It pulls SOOOOO much info about your computer, it essentially scrambles CPU instructions by making up it's own assembly language and JIT on the spot, as well as throws in a bunch of garbage instructions that, if interrupted, tells denuvo that something is trying to debug it (and so it nukes the game from orbit when it detects that)

It's VMProtect, but with about 20 dozen CCTV cameras added to it. And this naturally means resources the game could be using are instead devoted to ensuring Denuvo can scramble cpu calls and virtual machines around to confuse crackers.

People are also concerned that because denuvo has access to all this information, but keeps everything encrpyted, and also frequently phones home, how can we tell it isn't also capturing data for the purpose of selling it, or other nefarious purposes? While we cannot prove that denuvo IS doing this, we can't prove they aren't. Naturally this means we have to trust a company that has no reason to have our best interest at heart.

That shit is scary. It's sad that now that shit can happen with video games too. An old friend used to dabble in some online trading, but he got sick of trying to find a decent broker.
