True combos are terrible and one of Smash's best traits is DI and the ability to interact when you're getting comboed.

Input lag and missed inputs with any controller I use.

DI out + buffer an airdodge on the first frame your hitstun ends/the first frame you can histun cancel and now bam, 80% of the cast has no combos (unless you picked a walking giant hitbox instead of a character)

I'm trying to master Sans, but his "least useful" recovery is my favorite Up-B.

I'm 22 but my reflexes are as slow as those of a boomer, there isn't a single fighting game I can get decent at

This is one thing where I don't understand why fighting games don't try to take after Smash. It's just completely superior to have combos be a dynamic thing where there are tons of factors to take into account and getting the most out of one involves responding to the situation in novel and creative ways.

This is what makes it better. Who likes "true" combos that are guaranteed after you land the first hit? Following DI and changing your moves based on where your opponent is/forcing air dodges/trapping is far more skillful than any true combo.

But I am good at the game and consistently body people.

Anyone else noticed that online falcons are some of the most obnoxious try-hard players? It's like every single one of them has to be acting like a sperg the entire time.

Only losers care about gitting gud, let alone in PvP.
The furthest anyone should ever go to become better at the game is to see all the content it has to offer.
Overstaying your welcome like you did at your parents' house makes the game less enjoyable, both for you and the people you are around.
This is why every online game has a horde of angry, unhappy players who are so wrapped up in a sunken cost fallacy they can't stop until they 'git gud', which basically never actually happens.
Getting better means learning to either stop taking it so seriously or stop playing altogether.

From my own experience, the latter is much more common and much easier.

Slap City's pretty fun as well, but I don't see it getting ported any time soon.

I played melee competitively for years and I liked smash ultimate, but playing other fighting games has showed me how flawed it is. I still think it's fun and I have respect for the people that are good at it but I've been much happier playing guilty gear.

Ultimate has boring mechanics and none of the characters is fun to play. I won’t play it aside from occasionaly practicing for locals with my friends. I’m content with playing unist, melee and tekken

came here to say basically the same thing. melee and guilty gear both feel so much more rewarding and interesting than something like ultimate where every other character plays the same way

Because its not a fighting game. Everything falls apart once you get serious. Just enjoy it for what it is.

I just don't enjoy ultimate all that much. I tried getting into it but just never enjoyed playing it competitively or casually.

Why is Falco so shit? Here's a little story. Yesterday, I set up an arena and went Falco. Someone else joined and went Falco. He kicked my ass, he probably has about as much time as I do in the game, probably more. So we play a few rounds, he wins every time. I decide to switch to Ridley who I've played for like five hours probably. I kill him, and I kill him again and again.
What other conclusion can be drawn here? Ridley is considered pretty low too, but Falco has to be even worse if I couldn't beat a Falco with my Falco despite Falco being my main and then I just switch to some random fag and win.
What a fucking shit bird. I'm so glad I have all these aerials to juggle opponents when most of the other characters in the game can just kill with those same moves instead of just slapping retards around.

got my ass kicked by a DHD main a while back because i play against a DHD every once in a blue moon.
after a handful of matches i ended up beating them consistently though

i main Ken and Cpt falcon and fighting characters like Kirby or pikachu are a fucking nightmare for me because half of my hits go right over them

Falco is incredibly awkward to play and a lot of his moves are just plain shit. And his horizontal movement speed is too slow to take advantage of anything. But that Fair is really fucking annoying, so I'm glad no one uses him.

Either you suck at dittos, either he didn't know the matchup, etc... But to be honest Falco past Brawl has been pretty nerfed even if he is somehow a bit more decent now than he was in Smash 4.

I guess that's possible. Also I am calling Ridley low tier, but he might actually be high tier online because he has a lot of massive "get off me moves".
Similar to how Zelda isn't that great competitively but basically just automatically wins online because of giant hitboxes that stay out for ten years.

My connection is poop, so i try to go online, have to deal with lag and stop playing after 1-3 matches.

I do appreciate what walls add to the game and how they involve a bit more judgement than otherwise.

Yes I've played plenty of fighting games. None of them have anything quite like Smash's mechanics though. SC gives you air control, but that isn't actually like DI. Plenty of games have some kind of 'combo breaker' mechanic, but those are usually high cost high reward guessing games and/or don't work on any 'true' combos.

I've got a full time job, I can barely get a couple hours of play in a day

He's still fun to play as, when I win with him it's incredibly satisfying. Setting up something and then landing that back kick. Makes me want to love him. Then I remember he's hardly the only character in the game with a killing back air and it's just ten times easier to have a giant hitbox back air compared to Falco's toe.
His play style is about as fun as it can possibly get for me, but the damage just isn't there. I can be the only one landing hits for a minute and then someone else who's not even a heavy or anything can land one move and do just as much damage.
Anyway, I say Falco is my main, but that's just in my head. When I'm doing ass with the bird, I usually switch to Young Link for an automatic win. Just not as fun as Falco.

What's the point of getting good at a game I only play with some friends every once and a while? That's like asking me to get good at Mario Party. Just seems like a waste of time.

I don't think any character will ever be as satisfying as their melee counter part.
Peach might be the exception though.

Yeah I really loved him in Brawl, but now playing him just make me feel like I'm gimping myself.

12 year olds hate Smash. My cousin's kids were excited for the game and then they played it for ten minutes before going back to Minecraft on their Switch.

Falcon could be if they
1) fixed his slow initial dash & turnaround animation
2) let him maintain momentum when jumping from a dash
His moveset is actually really fun, his movement and some hitbox issues are the only things keeping him from being high, high tier

Ultimate falcon epitomises everything I hate about the movement in the game.

ness, ganon, and mewtwo are all significantly better

The online is shit with no chance of being fixed ever. I still waste my time in training mode though
