those are actually kino stats
putting your mental power over physical

>get ability that lets you take a portion (or all) of damage as MP before it lowers your HP
>after getting MP high enough you regenerate MP so fast you're nearly invincible
>the heavy armored tank that has low MP and high HP is nearly useless and dies in a few hits needing to be healed all the time

star ocean 3 sounds like weird game, id like to give it a shot someday.
Also

>character has mediocre stats all around
>gets the best exclusive weapons and armor

That's how it fuckin should be.

Not because they have low HP, but because they have oodles of MP.

I still like it for the gameplay, unlike the newer SOs it's a lot less spammy and gives room for pretty good fights where paying attention to enemies and reacting accordingly actually means something. Starting the harder modes especially makes it feel different.

Solo runs can be fun too.

Story-wise it's weird shit.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having more MP than HP. Your spells are your defense.

>seems like an interesting concept for DnD character.

That's literally just every overturned Sorc in DnD.

In my opinion. Having spellblade/spellsword as playable character will work more in action oriented doom/diablo like(aka you as one man army VS literal hordes of enemies) games.

Usually people give sorcerer at least 10 int to sorcerer because some sorcerer skills are int based and they don't want negative bonus to that. Even if someone does give less int to sorcerer, he doesn't roleplay with that in head.

Shad's style is very easy to identify.

mana leech has been divided by like 20, it stacks but reach the rate cap after like 3 stacks, and then mana pots were fucking nerfed to restore less mana per use, and then clarity was fucking nerfed too why not. Rincewind? I wouldn't say he has high CHA though.

He's (they're?) technically an INT hero, but has one of the highest STR growths of any hero in the game AND has a melee auto-attack. This is why he can be played as a mid or even semi-carry with the right build instead of just support.

>tons of spells and fun things to use, but has to rest all the fucking time to recover spell uses and you can barely make any progress unless you start beating stuff up with your staff
That's only in Vancian systems, which are thankfully pretty rare.

It's a good thing, too, because the second game's combat is a total disaster.

Why wouldn't that be the case?

>mage
>being hit by a physical attack

must be a game that doesn't truly perpetuate the untouchable d&d mage power fantasy

>still casts from HP

Wizardry...

The laws of physics would say a sword shouldn't be hovering in the air in the first place. When you're conjuring floating swords out of thin air, you're outside physics.

Surely your magic stat should govern how hard you can magically swing your magic sword using magic, right?

FIST

How many of you can cast Isaac's Greater Missile Storm?

Vancian, cooldowns, and energy systems all have their pros and cons user.

>Mage character
>No mana bar
>All spells just have cooldowns or not

>evil mage character
>has a lot of HP but his HP is also his MP

I cast it every day. Just vigorously shake your wand for a minute.

What's the matter, zoomer?

>tank's health gets so high it can no longer be measured by mere mortals

that's why you use numbers instead of bars

>In dialogue: "with magic you can do anything! You can fly, you can become a dragon, you teleport across the universe!!!"
>In gameplay: "what color of damage do you wanna do?"

I love how that game turns into just 'digits of damage' then direct numerals.

>item lets you use health instead of mana for spells
>spamming spells this way and repeatedly killing yourself is actually the more efficient way to upgrade your spells

Only one I can think of is Psykeeper in Flyff. The strat was basically to put everything into Stamina and get HP items and then cast Reflect Damage on yourself and get slapped by high level enemies.

>Median XL
>Blood Amazon has a skill that increases damage with low HP
>has an item set that causes you to use HP for spells instead of Mana
>constantly at low HP glasscannoning your way through hordes of enemies
Good feeling

>mage character
>can't even cast any spells

Is new median XL better than old one?

>mage character has every spells in the game
>max MP not high enough to cast them

Lvl 1 mages suck ass.

>archer character
>he/she is an elf

>every class has an MP bar, even the ones that can't use magic

Its pretty good. There are a lot of changes but overall its pretty much the same but more polished. I am not autistic enough to grind for all these challenges and charms though.

>kill small creature
>1 EXP

>MP exists as a stat and characters have different values of it even though no build can conceivably ever run out of it

Also played a dex playthrough and it was fine

>Mage character is the tank

it's pretty meta for a lot of builds in Path of Exile

Strangely enough, this was something the FF13 games did pretty well. Buffs, debuffs, and status effects were meaningfully effective and dramatically affected the flow of battle.

Why would you when you can just chain chugg mana pots with no downside.

this and also you get free mana just for leveling up and wearing items

Name seventeen games.

First time I encountered that system was Paladin's Quest.

Goddamn that game was a weird pastel mess.

Fully armored mages are criminally underrated
I remember some Russian MMO having clerics wear plate armor, it was pretty based. And most of the actual tanks' defense came from the shield, so it wasn't like they were overpowered either.

Attached: ahriman.jpg (1058x1000, 186K)

does this bother you

Attached: Screenshot_1.png (213x51, 12K)

mage spell level 1, good damage
2, better damage but expensive
3, super damage, b-but i can never cast this unless i want to use mp potions every 2 fights.

this
i love games where mana recovery is actually rare/difficult, most classes have some mana, but the mages have FUCKHUEG mana

>actual blood mages
kino

>the laws of physics should still overrule the laws of magic, right?
no? overruling the laws of physics is kind of what makes magic MAGIC.
a vorpal weapon injures by contact alone, not by imparting any sort of force.

sounds like a pretty bad game, mechnanically.

bladder explosion.

>tank character
>doesnt actually tank hits, just dodges them

>uses blood mage to cast with HP
>uses mana shield so damage reduces mana

>monk chatacter
>magic and strength is balanced
>you can spec differently so it becomes a powerhouse boxer or a plague-praying monster
