If I recall it counts scenes, and there are a bunch of sections in the early third of the game that are just a bunch of quick scenes back to back for massive progress bar gains, while the final sections have a few massive dungeons that provide very little progress on the bar.

Their release schedule after Sengoku will most likely be Quest -> 01+02 -> IX -> 03 -> X. There was a dude from MG (Vodoka I think) in a thread earlier today saying that Quest should be early 2020 and to expect releases to come quicker after that or something so maybe X will come sooner than everyone expects it to.

A first run clear is absolutely not intended. You are expected to hit a wall, die, and then use NG+ bonuses to clear it.

Some actions lead to event chains where something develops between the next few turns, and then the final event in the chain absolutely fucks you over. It is sometimes unclear exactly which action caused this ball to start rolling because you can do multiple things in a single turn, and if you don't have multiple saves going back pretty far you might have saved over any chance to go back before the event chain started.

X is a dissapointment for the end of series. It failed to live up the hype of this decade series climax.

I-IV have been replaced in canon by the remakes, but since IV hasn't gotten a remake yet it's still partially canon.
Basically if a newer game says something that contradicts one of the older games, the newer game's interpretation is canon. The only game that's completely non-canon is Kichikuou.

Sengoku Rance is a great game. A part of me wants it to be released on steam censored just so more people play and enjoy it. The gameplay is that good. Level up suzume, and give her "dungeon scout". Dungeon scout removes one enemy per fight. When you go to dungeons, always keep her in battle. Don't use up all of her attacks, since once they are out of attacks they will get switched out.

In the late game, spend gold to give your strong units more health. More health = more damage (in battle, not dungeons).

Check your prison every once in awhile. Recruit units with high attack/defense/speed.

Because sengoku is easily the most popular game of the series in the west (because it's one of the best translated ones), so why not offer the ability for people to support the series by putting out an official translation? I don't think they're unaware everyone's already played it, but it's like getting a remaster. Every time you max out that bar you can improve them in some way, such as giving them special skills, increasing stats, raising their level for commander battles and sometimes other things. It's hard to do consistently without a certain item that raises it every turn though
