Dune 2000 was a pretty cool game...

Dune 2000 was a pretty cool game. Damn shame there will never be another RTS involving the conflict in Arrakis between House Harkonnen, Atreides, and Ordos.

shai hulud is eternal like the desert, do not try to fight the inevitable.

Play Emperor: Battle for Dune.

Everything I know about dune I learned from that porn game

>Ordos
Not canon my man

I was always really irritated that they created House Ordos instead of using House Corrino or the Theilaxu or someone as the third faction.

Why'd you have to remind me about how RTS is dead user, I was having a good day

unironically my second favorite westwood game
is it widely disliked or something

It's pretty cool. God tier soundtrack as well: youtube.com/watch?v=sWtG3EkvSJg

It's Westwood's first attempt at proper 3D, so it is a bit blurry at times, both sub-factions and main three houses are filled with abuseable bullshit and it probably has the most brittle buildings in any of the Westwood games.

I don't think it's disliked. Whenever people do remember of its existence they have something positive to say about it. It's just that the game was largely forgotten due to it being released at the same time as Warcraft 3, which completely dwarfed Emperor.

Rts is not dead there is AoE2, SUPCOM:FAF, PA:T, and loads of others. WE ARE NOT DEAD WE ARE STILL FIGHTING.

the last mainstream rts title was released nine (9) years ago
its dead dude

It's a rather accurate depiction of this universe. The Bene Gesserit are sluts and bitches, count Harkonen is completely degenerate, Duncan is MVP, the Fremen love their "water" and Paul would love to fuck his relatives if given the chance. It's unironically one of the best adaptation of the books.

It unironically got me interested in it. I wanna pick up the books but apparently theres some non canon shit?

Just because something isn't mainstream doesn't mean it's dead.

>Harkonnen ever fighting Atreides in open conflict
The fat baron had to rely on Sardaukar larping as Harkotrannies.

WOuld be fun to have another Red Alert. RA3 was such utter shit and so simple. I just wanna C4 chrono some towers dudes.

Only ever played Dune 2, is this a remake?

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the inciting incident Harokonen sending some troops to murder Paul's dad? I forget if it was an assassination or an ambush

Yes, although with quality of life improvements for the time. It's running on the C&C engine, so it's basically C&C in the desert.

>Obscure game thread
>praise for game
>too bad there will never be/remake when

I want to believe that you're just a guy who wants to talk about a vidya you enjoy, but I'm conditioned into suspecting everything is preemptive shilling for a new upcoming product.

Yes it does.

Read everything up to God Emperor of Dune, the rest is optional imo. Especially the books written by Herbert Jr.

the book is dope

Last good RTS was SC2 and only for the campaign. Then it's like Grey Goo fucking 5 years ago or something, and that was mediocre even by the standards of the 90s-00s. And then nothing.

The genre is dead to the point where people are legitimately calling shit like turn-based games, auto chess, total war. I bet even (you)'ll defend Total War or squad-based tactics games like Dawn of War 2 or fucking sim city-lite like Anno as "RTS" in a pathetic, shallow effort to cling to the delusion.

Agreed, it's a pretty decent fap.

I think Dune 2000 got me into the RTS genre, even though I knew nothing about the setting beyond the giant worms. I think it prompted me to get command and conquer for the N64 well after it was released, and I have loved the genre since...at least until it up and died, pretty much.

>is it widely disliked or something

Not disliked, it's just not better than Westwood's other games and Warcraft 3 overshadowed it as a 3d RTS.

Just dropping by to say if you've not played this interesting gem you should try to get hold of it (and the more recent fan patches).

God Emperor is honestly a good stopping point. Know that Dune was essentially going to be seven parts, with two trilogies bridged by God Emperor. However, Frank Herbert passed away before finishing the final book so it is never finished. His son took over and cashed in time and time again on his father's legacy and sours it. God Emperor to many is the pinnacle of the series and its hard to argue against it, so it is downhill after but the hill just has a sudden cliff edge near the end.

At the least in universe they are described at possibly being lasered out of orbit any second.

Heretics and Chapterhouse are nice, but since Frankie died there is no final book 7 to end the series. All the buildup in Chapterhouse and Heretics go nowhere. Chapterhouse in itself doesn't work without Heretics either.
